Our waterways contribute to the health and well-being of local communities and economies, creating attractive and connected places to live, work, volunteer and spend leisure time. We are currently recruiting for a F2F Fundraising Performance Coach's. The purpose of this role is to support the delivery of excellent fundraising results and fundraising compliance standards and specifically the delivery of performance improvements in our F2F fundraisers through coaching, training, and continuous development. The role will also involve direct fundraising where you will be expected to meet a personal target.
Key Accountabilities:
- Responsible for coaching the performance of multiple teams in the region that will consist of lone workers, pairs of fundraisers to bigger teams as the income plan increases.
- Responsible for an individual fundraising target and set of KPI’s that include inspiring people to become long-term monthly donors, generating income through contactless one-off donations and acquiring newsletter prospecting sign ups in a range of locations including residential door-to-door, town and city centres, private venues, and events and more commonly on our private land, the canal and river Towpaths.
- Acting as a hands-on fundraiser who leads by example, delivering fundraising income through signing up Friends and generating contactless income whilst demonstrating the Canal & River Trust ‘s values and behaviours.
- Generating income and being present on-site to visit fundraising teams, fundraise with them, cover sickness absence, coach performance, provide training & development of fundraisers, reinforce our culture of health & safety, embed compliance standards.
- Provide phone coaching and in-person coaching of fundraisers to support meeting their targets and KPI’s and in individual cases working with fundraisers to improve their results from their current level of performance to the required standard by equipping them with the technical and psychological training to work to their very best.

We are looking for a Volunteering Leader to be based with our London South East Operations Team (E14 9ST)
Our Volunteer Leaders:
- plan and deliver a wide range of volunteer activities and events, assist operational teams in their task management of volunteering activities and liaise with volunteers, volunteer groups and supervisors.
- deliver day-to-day works in Operations & Environment, such as general maintenance & repair work. This will include operating waterway control structures (further training will be provided) and tow path repair/cleaning.

Why Work for The Difference?
Schooling isn’t working for the children who need it most. Every week in England 109 children –
equivalent to three full classrooms – are permanently excluded. This is just the tip of the
iceberg. Since the pandemic, school suspensions have risen significantly, as has persistent
absenteeism. 1 in 5 children are missing more than 10% of their time in school. Children who
are excluded or persistently absent are much more likely to already be experiencing
vulnerability or disadvantage. They are more likely to live in poverty, have additional learning
needs, suffer mental health challenges, or experience a lack of safety outside school. Certain
ethnicities are also disproportionately affected, notably Gypsy Roma Traveller and black
Caribbean children.
Exclusion and high rates of absence can have a dramatic effect on life chances. These young
people are more likely to drop out of education or employment, become vulnerable to
long-term mental ill health, or be at risk of criminal exploitation. The Difference believes that
children and young people deserve better and that the education system has to change.
Our Organisation
The Difference is a young education charity, founded to change the story on lost learning. By
2030, we want rates of exclusion and absence to be falling nationally and for schools to be better
equipped to support all children, including those who may be vulnerable.
The Difference was born out of a year of research into school exclusions with think-tank IPPR.
This research identified a lack of inclusion expertise in schools and proposed a new leadership
development programme to fill this gap. In 2018, Difference founder Kiran hired the team who
took this idea from concept to reality, beginning work with our first schools.
The Difference is now a 22-strong team delivering multiple school leadership programmes,
alongside a growing research and policy arm. The team is supported by our Youth Advisory
Board, made up of young people who have experienced exclusion and who provide their
expertise and insights on how school inclusion work should be done. This work is needed more
than ever. Effects of COVID-19, coupled with the spiralling cost of living, have substantially
increased levels of vulnerability. Schools serving excluded pupils face under-funding. The
Difference has had excellent early impact but there is work ahead to scale this impact through
our programmes, share learning with schools and policy-makers, and grow our capacity to
lower exclusions across England.
The Task Ahead: Programme Lead
In 2019 The Difference launched their programmes working with 22 school leaders in
London. Since then we have worked with 447 school leaders nationally. We want to continue
to scale our programmes and reach more school leaders to help shape their schools practice
and systems to improve pupil wellbeing, safety and belonging. We intend to further develop
our programmes to improve inclusion in schools and successfully changing the story for
students currently struggling in school.
Key tasks for this role include:
● Deliver The Difference’s Inclusive Leadership Course to senior leaders from a
range of school settings. This takes place in venues across the country including
but not limited to the North East, North West, and the Midlands. Confidence
and passion to deliver the course to the high standards required.
● In-school support for The DIfference’s School Partnership (DSP). Delivering
across a variety of schools including mainstream secondary, mainstream
primary and Alternative Provision settings. Supporting the implementation of
key themes and content from The Difference’s Inclusive Leadership Course.
● Working closely with The Differences Research, Impact & Influencing team
members to capture case studies, research and impact metrics that demonstrate
the impact of the Difference’s programmatic work.
● Input to the evolution and development of the Difference’s programmatic offer
using insight from delivery and feedback from programme participants
● Working closely with the The Difference’s Partnership and Sales team to
support the reach and impact of the programmatic work.

About LifeSkills
The LifeSkills programme will offer groups of families the chance to come together to a trusted venue such as a children’s centre or community setting. As well as offering opportunities for families to spend quality time together and have access to healthy food, these sessions will offer LifeSkills workshops for parents and carers to build their confidence, social networks, financial and employability skills. Examples include but are not limited to overcoming setbacks, managing debt, boosting confidence to return to work, CV writing, interview skills. The aims of the LifeSkills programme are to support participants to increase their confidence and 21st century skills, move closer to training/volunteering/employment, improve their social networks, and grow their confidence to provide low cost and nutritious meals.
The role involves delivering LifeSkills sessions to groups of families in the Greater Manchester area. The postholder will also be the main point of contact for delivery partners hosting programmes (e.g. small charities, schools) and staff and volunteers delivering sessions, and be expected to respond promptly to a wide range of queries and requests for support. Examples might include, for instance, devising LifeSkills programmes for different cohorts, presenting to potential partners, devising risk assessments, recording data, and visiting and providing guidance and support for staff and volunteers delivering sessions in venues across the country.

The Master of Research (MRes) in Developmental Neuroscience and Psychopathology (DNP) is a two-year Master’s programme, which is a collaboration between Anna Freud, University College London and The Child Study Centre at Yale University in the USA. The MRes brings together thinking from multiple perspectives, with a particular focus in the role of neuroscience in understanding child psychopathology.
This post provides a forum for the successful candidate to develop skills and experience in teaching and delivery of an innovative and well-established MRes programme. The post-holder will be required to undertake several tasks to support the programme including i. delivery of one module in each term (Terms 1, 2 and 3) related to affective and developmental neuroscience; ii. support with marking and assessment of coursework and theses; iii. Support with student pastoral care.
The post-holder will need to have a relevant PhD and/or child clinical qualification at Master’s level or above e.g. Child Psychotherapy, Clinical Psychology with child experience. They will have excellent knowledge of child development across a range of domains, with strong understanding of at least one main theoretical approach. Teaching experience at postgraduate level (or equivalent) is essential.

What the role involves
Key responsibilities
1. Ensuring that there are regular training opportunities for both new starters and those requiring refresher sessions or updates when new functions or forms are released.
2. Running system training drop-in sessions to assist with queries / hear feedback, and relaying information from these to the Information Governance and IT manager.
3. Working with the Learning and Development Coordinator to establish an evaluation method and implement this to enable us to assess the effectiveness of each training session and using this to improve future delivery.
4. Produce effective training materials and guidance documents, and develop and maintain a training area on our case recording system, including the creation of dummy forms and files for new users to access and use as a training sandbox.
5. Producing and maintaining a catalogue of training resources, ensuring links to practice-based guidance are established and maintained.
6. Performing case recording system changes to forms and lists as directed by the Information Governance and IT Manager
7. Support the Data Reporting and System Support Lead with regards to user administration and user support at times of absence and increased need
8. Supporting with training on additional systems directed by the Information Governance and IT Manager, including on the efficient use of SharePoint and Teams
9. Developing training courses for various systems, using our LMS (currently Rise)
10. Acting at all times in line with safeguarding legislation and guidance in addition to Safer London’s practice guidelines and wider pan-London processes and protocols.
11. Undertaking any other duties as required and commensurate with the level of this post.

Head of Mentoring
We are looking for an experienced, passionate, and highly skilled individual who is ready to help us increase our impact in the lives of young people and their families!
We are intending to build on our existing mentoring model that supports some of the most vulnerable and high-risk young people within the community. We aim to establish a fluid mentoring/coaching approach that works effectively across all our three streams of engagement (Schools, Community & Home). This includes work with young people who are underrepresented, marginalised and at high risk of criminal activity, gang involvement and anti-social behaviour.

Main Purpose of this Role
This is a new and exciting role at Reaching Higher that has been designed to effectively streamline our focus on mentoring across all our services. The purpose of this role is to lead on and develop an excellent mentoring provision that meets the needs of young people who are directly associated or at risk of youth offending. This includes working against recognised quality marks and developing evidence-based approaches in relation to mentoring. This role will work very closely with statutory services and will play a key role in developing a team to further expand this area of work. We aim to build on our existing theory of change and develop a robust impact measurement report across the entire organisation.
About Reaching Higher
Reaching Higher is a youth organisation which works with over 1000 young people aged 9-21 each year across Croydon and surrounding boroughs. Developed in partnership with local churches, we are a youth-led charity with a Christian ethos.We have a particular emphasis in providing mentoring support to young people and supporting their development as leaders. We have established strong links with key local, London and UK-wide organisations and our approach leads us into regular working contact with partner schools, community groups and churches.

The position is a dual role. You’ll join as the organisation’s sole dedicated Youth Worker and will lead on a portion of Free to Be’s year-round follow-on support for vulnerable young people who we have initially engaged via our Thrive Outside residentials. This will involve working with a member of the management team to run our Young Leader and Mentoring programmes as well as working one to one with a small caseload of our children who have more complex needs.
You’ll also help lead at least 10 of our residential projects across each year - working on the ground with the children, leading the volunteers, and helping make the projects special, safe, and transformative for vulnerable young people.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Youth Work (approx. 60% of workload):
When not on residentials (see below), you’ll help to lead the delivery of our year-round work. All of our young people come to us initially through our Thrive Outside ‘Gateway’ residentials. Through that residential week they’ll build deep trust with the organisation. Many however have complex life situations requiring longer term support. Your role will be to deliver and lead the youth work elements of this longer-term support. This will include:
a) Co-lead our ‘Young Leader’ Programme. This programme currently consists of a weekend residential training project to skill up young people, aged 14-17, who have previously attended residentials as younger children, to return as volunteers on those projects. Young Leaders also attend a thank you and feedback weekend each Autumn. We have recently begun to develop this programme further to offer greater year-round support including 1:1 keywork and support through challenges; sessions focusing on life skills development; linking them into work experience/capacity building experiences. We would also like to develop a ‘Youth Board’ or similar in the coming couple of years. You will lead the youth development aspects of the programme: delivering support sessions and keywork to Young Leaders, arranging development opportunities, building participation, and growing the offer over time.
b) Hold a small caseload of higher need young people. Working with a caseload of 4-6 young people at any one time you will deliver targeted 1:1 keywork sessions supporting young people with significant needs – offering advice, support, activities, and crucially help to work through sensitive or complex issues including difficult relationships with parents/carers; low school attendance; challenges with emotional/mental health.
c) Hold a small caseload of volunteer mentors and their mentees - providing regular support, supervision, and guidance meetings to the mentors; ensure mentors are running sessions safely and in line with policy; leading Start of Mentoring meetings with children, parents and mentors; taking the lead on liaising with the wider network of support around the child Including advocacy, attending multi agency meetings and safeguarding referrals. Mentoring is one of Free to Be's follow-on programmes.
d) of support, building on relationships built during our Initial residentials. Volunteer mentors are matched to our existing young people requiring ongoing support, and then offer regular sessions for at least a year with a focus on building young people's confidence and emotional health.
2. Thrive Outside Project Coordination (approx. 40% of workload):
Our residential projects are immersive, exhausting in all the right ways, and full of opportunities for children to feel included, valued and successful. Children usually spend 5 days at a time with us - many will paddle in the sea for the first time, play hide and seek in the woods, build rafts, canoe across lakes, visit farms, forests, ruined castles and splash through streams. A small number of projects are camping based, but most run from a variety of residential centres that we hire for the purpose. The majority of these projects take place during the school holidays.
We want you to play a key part in at least 10 such projects a year. Initially spending time in the different project roles (working intensively with small groups of children; providing floating support to the project coordinators; perhaps overseeing catering or driving our minibusses.). Once you are familiar with the way projects work, we will support you to progress to lead and coordinate them, working alongside a member of our staff team or an experienced volunteer. This will involve managing teams of between 5 and 25 volunteers, to oversee the wellbeing of between 8 and 20 children and young people per project.
Jointly with the other project coordinator, you will:

Take lead responsibility for the organisation, structure, and safe running of the project.

Provide leadership, support and direction to the project’s volunteer team. Set the tone and ethos of the project, understand and model Free to Be’s approach to supporting young people, and lead the team to create the best experience possible for the children.

Build excellent working relationships with Free to Be’s children and young people, ensuring they feel welcomed and included and that their safety and support needs are fully met during the project.

Support the volunteer team to respond effectively and in a positive manner to children presenting behaviour,risk issues (including safeguarding issues), or other challenges which may arise.

Liaise with the parents/carers of Free to Be children, building positive and supportive relationships, understanding many may have been let down by statutory or other organisations in the past.

Work to ensure safety and quality standards on residentials are of the highest level by ensuring Free toBe’s policies and processes, (including safeguarding, health and safety) are implemented at all times and issues are efficiently and constructively problem-solved, with the support of the leadership team.
