Background:
First Step Trust (FST) is a charity that provides work experience, training and employment opportunities for people excluded from working life because of mental health problems or other disadvantages (workforce members).
Our approach is about giving workforce members the chance to overcome some of the difficulties facing them by getting them involved as colleagues. We provide ‘on the job’ training, advice and support to enable each person to improve their basic skills and knowledge of the various work undertaken. This will include supporting workforce members to gain recognised qualifications and access to work placements with our customers and other organisations.
We are in the process of developing a more formalised training and employment support programme (SMaRT Pathways) particularly, but not exclusively, in the area of the Automotive trade. SMaRT Pathways will include the delivery of vocational training through the use of various technologies including video, Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality and other mediums making the learning process more accessible to those who struggle with traditional learning methods due to issues around literacy, numeracy and low levels of self-confidence/anxiety.
Job Role:
The main objective of this post is to enable people with mental health difficulties and other disadvantages (workforce members) to engage with and access open employment. The EDTW will achieve this by taking responsibility for proactively recruiting people to the project, overseeing their development whilst at the project, including delivery of training courses as and when required and supporting them to move on to employment or further training.
Main duties:
Networking with other services in the area to raise awareness about FST, promoting work placements and training courses as well as promoting the business services.
Recruitment and development of potential workforce members - being proactive in following up on enquires regarding work placements, interviewing potential workforce for work placements at the project.
Employment support – assist workforce looking to move on to paid employment by providing support in job search, CVs and interview preparation. To develop a network of appropriate work placements by building contacts with local employment agencies and employers to ensure access to work for all workforce preparing to move on from FST.
Training – assisting when required, in delivering a variety of courses both in house and recognised qualifications to people with common mental health problems both workforce members and visiting trainees utilising the various technologies as they are developed.
Monitoring and reporting - complete, manage and provide regular, accurate, appropriate and timely reports to agreed deadlines in order to monitor progress.
Office duties – working with workforce members as colleagues ensuring that daily tasks are completed in a timely fashion.
To work in accordance within the limits and parameters as set out in FST’s policies and procedures, by the Board, Chief Executive, Deputy Chief Executive and other senior managers.
Perform other tasks as reasonably required according to the needs of the project and FST.

Training and Education Lead
Position: Training and Education Lead: Parental Cover (8 months)

About the role:
This role is for an events person who can support our training and development courses. These courses are delivered either face-to-face or hybrid and are often delivered by a team of the organisation’s members. We use tools such as WebEx, MS Teams and Slido to support the delivery. There is an agreed schedule for the rest of 2024 for our public (open) training plus some bespoke, in-house training to be agreed upon with clients. There will also be additional in-house training to be secured for the remainder of 2024 and the first part of 2025.
The role holder will work within our professional development team, headed up by the director of professional development. They will report directly to the director and work alongside other team members to deliver an effective apprenticeship programme.

Details of role
· Deliver training and briefing sessions on the Codes and on alcohol social responsibility. This includes delivering sessions virtually and in person within the UK.
· Responsible for responding accurately and promptly to written requests for advice on product marketing from producers and their agencies alongside other members of the Regulatory Affairs Team.
· To raise standards of responsibility in the industry by undertaking proactive trademark searches of newly registered products and providing unsolicited advice where necessary.

You’ll use your people skills to work closely with partners to deliver expert-led training courses, making their activities more inclusive for disabled people. Highly organised and with an eye for detail, you’ll liaise with each partner to make sure we meet their needs.
You’ll also manage Inclusive Activity Leaders – a truly life-changing programme created in partnership with Nike that trains disabled people to become fully qualified sports coaches and enjoy new careers.

Purpose of Role

Primary responsibilities
- The Director is responsible for managing, hiring, and effectively leading the fundraising team towards the achievement of their individual targets.
- Maintains a portfolio of major donors and prospects by creating and implementing strategies for the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of donors with the capacity to make 5- and 6-figure annual gifts and 6- and 7-figure leadership gifts.
- The position demands experience with designing fundraising strategies and good management skills for implementing strong, prioritised and focused work plans that achieve (or exceed) the agreed organisational goals.
- Overall responsibility of the annual revenue budget, ensuring reporting requirements as defined by the VP, International Development for monthly, quarterly, and annual budget and target monitoring.
- This position shall work in tandem with the global communications team to jointly create a positive, campaign-driven image of Smile Train in the United Kingdom.
- Manage Philanthropic Advisory Council of high-level Smile Train supporters.
Experience
- Minimum seven years' experience in senior level fundraising, ideally in a leadership role with oversight over end-to-end execution.
- Knowledge of individual, corporate, foundation and major donor fundraising methodology including cultivation, solicitation, stewardship, and prospecting of donors.
- Proven track record in leading fundraising and delivering income growth within a similar sized organization.
- Experience in a marketing and public relations role a plus.
Skills Required
- Minimum undergraduate university degree.
- Strong analytical skills, database proficiency and outstanding budgetary and financial skills, including target setting and monitoring and proficiency in Excel.
- Knowledge and/or experience in marketing, fundraising acquisition, development and retention methods and budget management.
- Experience in SalesForce or other CRM.
- Excellent communication (oral & written) skills in English.
