Finance Officer

This is a full time role - Hybrid working with an expectation of weekly attendance to Head Office at Baynards Green, Nr. Bicester Oxfordshire.

Job Purpose:-

We are looking to appoint a Finance Officer to join our growing team. Reporting to the Head of Finance this new role will ensure that appropriate financial processes and systems are followed and developed to support our charity’s sustainable growth and safeguard our financial health.

The Finance Officer will ensure that financial tasks and transactions are undertaken in an efficient, effective and timely manner and, importantly, that relevant financial information is provided to keep the Head of Finance updated and informed, supporting the Leadership Team to make the best decisions for the charity.

We are looking for a confident and experienced individual to join our supportive team. Previous charity finance knowledge is helpful but not essential, above all we want an individual to be tenacious, curious, diligent and show strong initiative.

Who are you?

You should be accomplished in Sage 50 Accounts and have considerable experience working in a finance function and in financial administration.

Some experience of working with Salesforce or an equivalent CRM database and an accountancy qualification or studying towards a professional qualification ACCA, CIMA, ACA, CIPFA) or AAT qualified. Experience of working in the Voluntary Sector, paid or unpaid would be great.

You should have excellent written and verbal communication skills (a natural ability to clearly communicate financial information to those with a non-finance background). You need to have proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook and experience in database and payroll systems.

It would be amazing for you to have high level of attention to detail and methodical working, be a self-starter and be able to use initiative.

The Fundraising Co-Ordinator will raise the profile and awareness of Young Bristol and working with the Head of Fundraising develop a fundraising work plan to qualify and develop a range of key funding streams. The post holder will help to develop and ensure the effective delivery of the fundraising plan in line with Young Bristol’s strategy. The role will be multi faceted involving Grants, Trusts and Foundations, Community fundraising, Corporate fundraising, Legacy fundraising, Events and High Value fundraising.

Doorstep Library is a community-focused literacy charity dedicated to bringing the magic of books and the joy of reading directly into the homes of children who need our support. We are looking for an experienced fundraiser to head up our fundraising and marketing teams.

With one in four 11-year-olds leaving primary school unable to read or write properly, we recruit and train home and online reading volunteers to go into disadvantaged areas of London to help introduce young children (aged 0-11 years) to the pleasure and benefits of reading.

Our unique home-based service, whether in person or online, enables us to find the most appropriate books for every child we visit and build a relationship with the whole family. Our goal is to help children develop the self-confidence and essential skills they need to access all the opportunities that will come their way in life.

JOB PURPOSE

· Strategic responsibility for fundraising, including partnership development and maintaining the charity’s strong relationships with our wide range of funding partners;

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are looking for a Head of Fundraising to report to the Chief Executive Officer. The successful candidate will sit on the Senior Management Team, working closely with the CEO, Head of Operations and Head of Delivery and Engagement.

You will have substantial, proven experience of working in fundraising and of developing and sustaining partnerships, ideally in the third sector, and of how to build financial sustainability. You will be a highly organised people-person and will be responsible for line managing two Fundraising and Marketing Officers.

You will bring excellent communication skills and the ability to inspire others about our work.  With outstanding interpersonal skills, you will have the ability to forge new relationships and you will thrive on enhancing our current partnerships and identifying and creating new ones. 

Finally, you will be truly passionate about the work that we do to support children and families in disadvantaged areas of London and be driven to share our work with as many people as possible.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES

Development and delivery of the charity’s fundraising strategy

· To work closely with the CEO and trustee board to lead on the development, planning and delivery the Doorstep Library’s fundraising strategy, with further development of a longer-term strategy;

· To manage and build upon the income streams for the charity;

· To take a lead on application bids, including managing, monitoring and evaluating all funding applications;

· To work closely with the SMT and actively contribute to the overall strategy and direction of the charity;

Grow, develop and sustain our partnerships and income streams

· To lead, deliver and grow our existing relationships with all of our funding partners; foundations, corporates, independent schools and individual donors to raise circa £850K pa;

· To identify new potential partners, working closely with the CEO and board of trustees to develop these partnerships;

· To establish a corporate supporters programme and individual giving campaigns, plus develop effective stewardship systems;

· To have responsibility for retaining and engaging the charity’s supporters, this includes providing formal reports and updates on the work of the charity;

· Working with the Fundraising and Marketing Officers to effectively communicate the impact of our work to internal and external stakeholders;

Communications

· Work with the Marketing Officer to implement improvements to our digital presence, including website optimization, social media strategy, and online advertising campaigns;

· Research and analyse sector news/ developments; 

· Oversee the creation of the annual report and impact report;

· Create and maintain a stock of case studies/ success stories and photos; 

· Monitor and report on the effectiveness of fundraising strategies and campaigns; 

Line Management

· To have direct line management responsibility for the Fundraising and Marketing Officers;

PERSON SPECIFICATION

1.  A proven track record of delivery results in fundraising and/or partnership management

We are looking for someone who shares our values and is passionate about improving life for both people and nature in Sussex, especially in disadvantaged communities.

Working closely with a committed and extensive team of volunteers and paid staff, and with the support of an established and engaged board of Trustees, you will be steering the work on our vision and leading the team to deliver it.

As the leader of a relatively small charity, you will be engaged with many operational aspects of the organisation.

Taking on the stewardship of the new plot of land will be one of the priorities in the first year.

You will be managing our annual income of around £200K, our part-time managers (admin; orchard planting, scrumping, courses and sites) plus a team of 25 workers and key volunteers engaged in ongoing roles.

Hours can be worked flexibly, though you will need to attend in-person meetings, events and site visits, including some weekends and evenings. We have a kitchen and barn at Stanmer Park, but not an office. All desk work and online meetings will need to be done remotely using your own equipment.

Key responsibilities:

· Figurehead and ambassador for the organisation. Willing to be available for interviews and talks.

· Decision maker. Brighton Permaculture Trust has always been a collaborative organisation. There will be times when quick or difficult decisions are needed.

· Setting budgets and monitoring finances. Draft budgets for our financial year July 2024 to June 2025 are in place.

· Writing/assisting with funding bids. 

· Formal reporting to the Trustees quarterly, plus monthly opportunities to meet with the Trustees for support, collaboration and feedback.

· Leading monthly meetings with the operational managers. Operational managers cover each key area: Scrumped in Sussex, Community Orchards, Brighton Permaculture Trust Sites, Courses & Events and Admin/Compliance.

· One-to-one meetings with operational managers, key contractors and volunteers as required. These can be online or on-site.

· Supporting the wider team to agree on SMART targets for each project and deliver on our strategic goals.

· Attending Brighton Permaculture Trust Apple Days events (3 per year).

· Being the main point of contact for key relationships, including major donors, funders, partner organisations and Brighton & Hove City Council.

· Presenting our year’s achievements to the members at our AGM.

· Line management of 3-5 operational managers as these roles move to long-term contracts

· Representing the Trust at assorted, infrequent external meetings and events would be desirable and require some flexibility in days/times worked. 

As the most senior finance professional within the organisation, the Group Accountant has overall responsibility for the quality of the consolidated financial reporting, and for supporting the Business Director with managing financial risk, setting financial strategy, and ensuring that Trustees are appropriately informed of the financial position of the charity.

The Group Accountant is expected to coordinate the preparation of high quality consolidated financial reporting. He or she will set high standards for school finance teams, support them in their work, provide advice, develop constructive working relationships and facilitate the sharing of best practice.

You will be joining our fantastic Fundraising team who work with trusts, foundations, institutions, companies, and individuals to ensure the charity has the funds and relationships necessary to achieve our aims.

This role will be responsible for managing existing corporate partnerships, developing new corporate relationships, and developing and delivering an events programme. Events is a relatively new area for the charity and we anticipate the events programme will, in the main, support our corporate partnerships and provide a varied package of engagement opportunities for our growing base of employee volunteers. These, and other events, will help raise vital funds as well as networking and new business development opportunities. 

We’re looking for someone who has experience of a similar role/s. You will have great people skills and have experience of building and maintaining strong relationships. You will be enthusiastic, energetic and with a can-do attitude who enjoys planning and organising and is not phased with periods of high intensity. You will have a positive approach and enjoy working as part of a team. 

As we all work remotely, you will also need to be a self-starter and able to work independently. You must be based in one of our 4 hub cities: London, Birmingham, Manchester or Liverpool. The post holder will need a thorough understanding and commitment to LTSB’s vision, mission, and work.

Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP) works for the health and dignity of Palestinians living under occupation and as refugees. MAP is the leading UK charity delivering health and medical care to those worst affected by conflict, occupation and displacement, in the occupied Palestinian territory, including Gaza, and Lebanon.

MAP is in a period of ambitious growth and rapid development, as we respond to the massive humanitarian crisis in Gaza, the West Bank, and Lebanon. Due to this growth, we are seeking a Director of Fundraising and Marketing to lead the development and delivery of an ambitious and data driven fundraising strategy.

Purpose of role

The purpose of this role within MAP is to build a high-performing fundraising and marketing team in the UK, and in new international markets, to drive and stabilise significantly increased fundraising performance across a range of income streams. The post holder will lead the development and delivery of an ambitious and data driven fundraising and marketing strategy to successfully deliver MAP’s new five-year vision.

The job holder will have the following key responsibilities:

Leadership

• Champion fundraising across the organisation.
• Be an inspiring ambassador for MAP and ensure this is reflected in the strategies, outputs, and behaviour of the fundraising team.
• Actively contribute to leading Medical Aid for Palestinians as a member of the Senior Management Team (SMT).
• Work closely with the SMT to ensure that appropriate processes and systems are in place across the organisation, including delivery against KPIs.
• Attend and actively participate in MAP’s Board meetings and relevant Board Committee meetings providing updates, necessary reports, and feedback on MAP’s fundraising and marketing.
• Lead cross-organisational projects in line with organisational strategy and direction.
• Build strong working relationships with colleagues across the organisation at all levels, adopting and encouraging a collaborative working approach.
• Keep abreast of, understand, clarify, and implement new or changes in relevant thinking and legislation, especially those directly affecting fundraising.
• Monitor and manage risk in accordance with MAP’s risk management policy.

Fundraising

• Lead the development and delivery of an ambitious and data driven fundraising strategy across a range of income streams to successfully deliver MAP’s new five-year vision.
• Build and inspire a high-performing and results-oriented Fundraising Team focused on delivering sustainable income to maintain and build on recent organisational growth.
• Ensure that MAP’s fundraising is supported by appropriate business/activity plans, and sound financial plans and budgets; and that performance is regularly monitored and evaluated against plans and budgets.
• Set, monitor, and deliver annual income and expenditure targets.
• Foster a culture of ambition and innovation and support the team to research, develop, and implement new fundraising approaches to recruit new donor groups across all income streams.
• Drive change and implement new ways of working across fundraising and the wider organisation in support of fundraising effectiveness.
• Manage relationships with key supporters and stakeholders and attend meetings and networking events to unlock new opportunities.
• Strengthen and build on existing supporter relationships, ensuring that all supporters receive a first-class experience.
• Support the team to develop professional and engaging fundraising materials including fundraising propositions, applications, proposals, appeals, pitches, and reports.
• Take overall responsibility for fundraising compliance and ensure that in all relevant areas, MAP complies with the law, regulation, and stakeholder and contractual obligations with third parties.
• Maintain oversight of the supporter database to ensure integrity, legal compliance, and suitability for MAP's fundraising strategy.

Fundraising Development

• Work with the Head of Individual Giving to deliver and implement a strategy which prioritises both the retention and acquisition of new donors, enhances the use of digital products, platforms, and channels and delivers the highest standard of supporter care and donor stewardship.
• Work with relevant colleagues to deliver a new strategy and plan which prioritises deepening and strengthening existing relationships and building a strong pipeline of new prospects to deliver multi-year funding from major donors, high profile supporters, trusts, foundations, and companies.
• Lead the adoption and use of a newly installed Microsoft Dynamics CRM to effectively support data-driven decision making and relationship management to generate supporter insights in support of increased fundraising.
• With the CEO and SMT, agree and invest in a scaled-up approach to fundraising internationally.

Brand and Marketing

• Working in collaboration with the Director of Advocacy and Communications, lead the development and delivery of an integrated marketing and communications strategy that is driven by audience insight.
• Build and inspire a high-performing and results-oriented Marketing Team to build a community of supporters by delivering a seamless supporter journey that promotes MAP’s work and delivers greater income generation.
• Ensure our brand and identity are strong and supported by authentic high-quality messaging, delivering integrated campaigns across all our channels that turn increased recognition into active support for MAP’s work.
• Increase brand awareness and brand attribution, creating an authentic and compelling voice for MAP which centres on Palestinian voices, including the voices of the people MAP serves.
• Empower teams across MAP to successfully deploy our brand.
• Work in partnership with the Director of Advocacy and Communications to ensure content is up to date, factually accurate and to manage reputational risk.

People Management

• Create a high-performing team that is ambitious and passionate about MAP’s vision.
• Provide line management to direct reports, setting, and monitoring individual performance objectives and motivating the team to be innovative and professional in its thinking and delivery.
• Ensure all fundraising staff receive consistent and motivating direction and feedback to enable them to work to the best of their ability.

• Extensive relevant experience and a proven track record of delivery of income growth across multiple fundraising channels in a fast-paced and rapidly changing context.
• Knowledge and/or experience of fundraising through direct marketing, trusts and foundations, corporates, major donors, challenge events, community fundraising, and digital marketing.
• Experience of relational databases and of analysing and presenting data to make informed decisions.
• Experience engaging and stewarding relationships with donors at all levels.
• Proven experience producing successful proposals for large scale projects.
• Experience planning, prioritising, and managing multiple projects simultaneously from start to finish.
• Experience in international fundraising.
• Experience in strategic planning, budgeting, and forecasting.
• Experience managing staff across different fundraising areas.
• Experience working at SMT and reporting at Board/Trustee level.

The Adult Services Team Manager is one of 3 team managers reporting to our Chief Executive Officer. The services managed include Direct Payment Support across Richmond and Wandsworth, Befriending and Community Activities, our Benefits and Housing Advice and Information service and our Counselling service.

We constantly research and develop services to meet the identified needs of the community and this role would suit someone who wants a good level of autonomy to develop new ideas.

The Adults Services Manager works alongside our Children’s Team Manager and our Social Prescribing and Community Development Manager, supported by Finance, Fundraising and Campaigns and Communications Managers.

Purpose of Post

• To be responsible for the management of the Support Services to Direct Payment clients in Richmond and Wandsworth.
• To be responsible for the research and development of adult services in Richmond and Wandsworth.
• To oversee promotion, monitoring and delivery of the CILS, Pathways and Counselling services.
• To provide leadership and supervision, performance evaluation and general support for all of the adult services team managers and leads
• To be responsible for adult safeguarding and health and safety across the organisation.

Main Duties include:

Management of Direct Payment Support Service

• Lead and manage the Direct Payment Support Service across Richmond and Wandsworth Boroughs through an experienced DP Project Manager.
• Provide support to the DP Project Manager to resolve complex DP HR management issues around the area of employment law.
• Support the Project Manager in their work with the local authority to set targets for the project, monitor performance against these targets and identify and resolve any issues that arise.
• Report as required to the commissioners and the Ruils Board of trustees
• Work with the DP Project Manager and the CEO on new DP projects and funding applications as required.

CILS, Pathways and Counselling Teams

• Lead and manage the delivery of the Community activity, Befriending, Pathways and Counselling services.
• Work with the CILS partners to ensure that the service is meeting Local Authority targets
• Report as required to the commissioners and the Ruils Board of trustees
• Responsible for ensuring active promotion of the services to potential and existing clients and stakeholders and to ensure representation of Ruils at networking events.
• Work with the CEO and Fundraising Manager to ensure projects are fully funded and demand is well managed.

General Responsibilities

• Responsible for ensuring safeguarding policies and principles are upheld across Adult Teams.
• Responsible for Health and Safety across the organisation.
