Job description

Job Purpose:

 To implement a high quality support and advocacy service to women affected by domestic violence, working alongside police to maximise use of Domestic Violence Protection Notices/Orders.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Development:

 To identify and develop support and safety strategies to meet the needs of women and children seeking support through BSWA’s Home Options Hub

 To work in partnership with West Midlands Police force in developing the support service around DVPN/Os.

 To work with the manager to develop and implement appropriate practice guidance, including information sharing protocols

 To set up referral pathways and build up links with potential referral agencies

 To keep abreast of issues regarding domestic violence on a national and local level, including legislative changes that impact this work.

 To participate in multi agency work as agreed with your line manager.

 To explore the development of volunteering opportunities within the Project.

Support Work:

 To carry out full needs and risk assessments and develop safety plans with women

 To develop and produce case files with action plans for each service user

 To provide referral and direct support to women applying for further civil protection orders

 To keep women informed about developments in legal proceedings as they arise.

 To support and advocate on behalf of women, where appropriate.

 To work with women in recognising women and children’s individual needs and refer to specialist agencies where necessary

 To facilitate access for women to both statutory and community services

 To devise and implement appropriate methods of communication with women and children, in agreement with your line manager

Administration:

 To work within BSWA’s administrative and financial systems

 To ensure that clear and accurate records are kept for all service users

 To ensure that Health and Safety records are kept up to date

 To produce monthly reports with statistical information for your line manager

 To monitor and evaluate the project, via various methods including feedback from service users, evaluation and statistical information

Communication:

 To ensure that all staff team members are aware of any matters that are relevant to the welfare and security of the services, staff, volunteers and service users by: a) Maintaining BSWA communication records b) Following safety procedures c) Attending team meetings d) Carrying out risk assessments in conjunction with your line manager.

 To attend in-house training.

 To attend support and supervision sessions with your line manager.

 To develop a professional working relationship with external agencies.

 To feedback relevant issues from external meetings/ training to the staff and management teams as appropriate.

 To promote awareness of the impact of domestic violence on women and children and BSWA services

 To provide awareness raising sessions to external agencies linked with the project.

General:

 To maintain the confidentiality of the women and children using the service and in all matters relating to the organisation.

 To ensure the efficient use of resources at all times.

 To work within BSWA policies and procedures and demonstrate a commitment to the values and ethos of BSWA.

 To work within BSWA’s framework for equal opportunities and anti-discriminatory practice.

 To adhere to Child Protection and Safeguarding procedures, and Adult Safeguarding procedures throughout

 To participate in the development and annual appraisal of a personal individual development plan with the line manager.

 To undertake any other duties required by BSWA which may arise and are commensurate with the post.
