About SUNSHINE Charity
Loneliness is one of the most profound challenges facing our communities — but together, we can change that.
SUNSHINE Charity is a new, volunteer‑powered organisation dedicated to reducing loneliness and social isolation by creating warm, joyful, inclusive spaces where people can meet, connect, and feel part of something bigger.
We believe that connection is a human need. We believe that joy is a form of care. We believe that community can change lives.
To support our growth and ensure strong governance, we are looking for a dedicated and organised Secretary to the Board of Trustees.
The VOLUNTEER Opportunity
As Secretary to the Board, you will play a vital role in ensuring SUNSHINE’s governance runs smoothly, professionally, and in line with best practice.
You’ll be the person who keeps our Board organised. You’ll ensure our decisions are recorded clearly and accurately. And you’ll help create the structure that allows SUNSHINE to grow safely and sustainably.
Your work will support the leadership of a brand‑new charity at a pivotal moment — and help us build a future where no one feels alone.
What You’ll Be Doing
Your responsibilities will include:
-
Preparing and circulating Board agendas in collaboration with the Chair
-
Taking accurate minutes at Board meetings (usually monthly)
-
Managing Board correspondence and ensuring timely responses
-
Maintaining the Board’s records, files, and governance documents
-
Supporting the Chair with meeting scheduling and logistics
-
Ensuring actions from meetings are recorded and followed up
-
Helping maintain compliance with Charity Commission requirements
-
Supporting trustee recruitment, onboarding, and documentation
-
Acting as a key point of contact for Board administration
This role is essential to the smooth running of SUNSHINE’s governance.
Who We’re Looking For
You don’t need charity governance experience — though it’s a bonus. If you’re organised, reliable, and confident with admin and communication, you’ll be a great fit.
We’re looking for someone who:
-
Is organised, detail‑focused, and reliable
-
Can write clearly and accurately
-
Is confident taking minutes and summarising discussions
-
Communicates professionally and warmly
-
Can manage documents, emails, and scheduling
-
Is comfortable using digital tools (email, shared drives, Zoom, etc.)
-
Can maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information
-
Works well with trustees, volunteers, and the CEO
-
Shares SUNSHINE’s values of kindness, inclusion, and joy
Experience in administration, governance, PA/EA roles, office management, or committee support is helpful — but not essential.
Why Volunteer With SUNSHINE?
This role offers the chance to:
-
Support the governance of a brand‑new community charity
-
Gain experience in charity administration and Board‑level operations
-
Work closely with the Chair, CEO, and trustees
-
Develop skills in minute‑taking, governance, and organisational management
-
Play a key role in ensuring SUNSHINE grows safely and sustainably
-
Be part of a passionate, supportive, purpose‑driven team
-
Make a meaningful difference in tackling loneliness across London
The Difference You’ll Make
- Behind every well‑run charity is a Board that is organised, supported, and informed.

- Behind every moment of connection is a structure that makes it possible.
As Secretary to the Board, you will help build that structure.
Your contribution will help SUNSHINE operate with professionalism, clarity, and care — ensuring we can reach more people who feel alone.
