The Opportunity

We are seeking a visionary and highly organised Head of Volunteering to establish and lead our global volunteering function. This is a senior volunteer role ideal for someone who enjoys building systems from scratch, shaping culture, and empowering people.

You will design and launch our volunteering programme, create the systems and processes that underpin it, and lead the recruitment, onboarding and retention of volunteers across the foundation. As we grow, you will build and oversee a dedicated volunteer department.

This is a rare opportunity to shape the future of a cultural charity at an early stage.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement the foundation’s global volunteering strategy.

• Create volunteer systems, processes, policies, and best‑practice frameworks.

• Design volunteer role descriptions, onboarding pathways, training materials, and engagement methods.

• Lead the recruitment, selection, onboarding, and retention of volunteers across all teams.

• Establish a positive, inclusive, and inspiring volunteer culture aligned with our mission and values.

• Set up and manage a volunteer management system (VMS) and reporting processes.

• Build and lead a volunteer department, including future volunteer team leads.

• Work closely with senior leadership to ensure volunteering supports organisational goals.

• Monitor, evaluate, and continuously improve the volunteering programme.

• Weekly clubs:  Assist with creating safe, fun, and inclusive sessions in any of our weekly clubs:

• Adults (16+ years) 

• Trips and holiday clubs: Help during trips and outings, ensuring safe and enjoyable experiences.

Zambia Orphans Aid UK (ZOA-UK) is looking for part-time volunteers to support our Digital & Communications work. The ideal candidates will have passion for all things digital and an interest in international development. We are seeking people who have good digital understanding, a flare for design and experience of creating social media content across a range of platforms.

You will possess a positive attitude together with a proactive approach to problem solving. You will be home-based and have the freedom to set your own hours, so self-motivation is essential.

Volunteers support ZOA-UK’s communications and digital activities to increase the reach, profile and influence of the charity and build our brand as a leading charity supporting orphans and vulnerable children in Africa. The volunteers will support the small team to create a cohesive and effective approach to delivering our messages to target audiences, driving supporter engagement and donations, and raising awareness of the needs of orphans and vulnerable children in Zambia. 

Range of likely duties to include:

1. Write up case studies and stories of change and ensure they and accompanying photographs and video footage are stored securely in our image and case study database

This role provides a telephone listening and support service to bereaved carers’ and family members whose relatives died under the care of The Hospice of St Francis. Last year our Bereavement Support Line volunteers made over 1,000 calls.

We are looking for additional volunteers to support this service.  Do you have strong listening skills?  Are you reflective, self-aware, adaptive with basic IT skills?  We'd love to hear from you.

However much time you can give, your contribution will help raise much needed funds to continue the work of Cats Protection.
