Introduction to the Marketing, Outreach, and Advocacy vertical Lead role:

The Marketing, Outreach, and Advocacy Lead is the driving force behind Barawak’s communication, its brand identity and public presence. This strategic role involves developing and implementing marketing and outreach initiatives to amplify Barawak's mission and to advocate for the Afro-Hebrew community. It requires collaboration with trustees and programme leads to ensure consistent messaging and effective advocacy.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Strategic Marketing and Outreach:

• Develop and execute a comprehensive marketing and outreach strategy that promotes Barawak’s mission, programs, and events.

• Utilize a multi-channel approach, including social media, local press, and community events, to raise awareness and engage diverse audiences.

2. Advocacy Campaigns:

• Craft and lead advocacy campaigns that support Barawak’s strategic objectives and service lines, ensuring the community's voice is heard on critical issues.

• Build relationships with media outlets and influencers to enhance Barawak’s visibility and impact.

3. Support to Trustees:

• Provide the Board of Trustees with strategic marketing insights and advocacy support, enabling informed decision-making.

• Ensure trustees are kept informed of marketing and advocacy efforts and outcomes, aligning with Barawak’s governance and strategic plans.

4. Programme-Specific Outreach:

• Tailor marketing and advocacy efforts to support the unique goals of each Barawak programme, from Poverty Relief to Sports and Wellness.

5. Brand Management:

• Oversee Barawak’s brand identity and messaging across all platforms, ensuring consistency and alignment with organizational values.

• Develop marketing materials and campaigns that resonate with the community and stakeholders.

6. Performance Analysis:

• Monitor and analyze the effectiveness of marketing and advocacy initiatives, using data-driven insights to refine strategies.

Qualifications and Skills:

• Experience in marketing, public relations, or advocacy within the nonprofit sector.

Introduction to the Partnership Development and Collaboration Lead Role

The Partnership Development and Collaboration Lead is crucial in forging strong connections and building strategic alliances. This role focuses on nurturing relationships that support Barawak’s overall mission and each unique programme, ensuring the organization's growth and the successful delivery of its objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

Trustee Support:

• Act as the primary liaison between the Board of Trustees and potential partners.

• Advise trustees on partnership opportunities that align with Barawak's strategic direction.

• Prepare briefing materials and strategic recommendations for trustees on collaboration efforts.

• Coordinate with trustees to identify partnership needs and priorities across all service lines.

Barawak-wide Partnership Development:

• Develop and implement a comprehensive partnership strategy for Barawak as a whole.

• Identify and engage with local, regional, and global organizations, businesses, councils, and government entities.

• Cultivate relationships that lead to resource sharing, joint initiatives, and co-created programmes.

• Secure commitments and formalize agreements that provide sustainable support for Barawak’s operations and initiatives.

Programme-Specific Collaboration:

• Tailor partnership strategies to support the unique needs of each programme lead.

• Work closely with the Poverty Relief, Education & Skill Development, Employment Support, Community Engagement & Racial Harmony, and Sports & Wellness leads to identify potential partners that can provide targeted resources and support.

Our Key Volunteers are shop volunteers who have additional responsibilities. This is a varied and responsible role where you’ll be provided with training that will equip you to support the Shop Manager and Assistant with the day to day running of the shop, including: 

• Provide a warm, friendly welcome to customers.
• Provide great customer service and a fantastic shopping experience, support other volunteers to do the same.
• Receiving donated goods from members of the public. 
• Processing sales and serving on the till.
• Open and close the shop when necessary to support the Shop Manager.
• Cash up the till at the end of the day.
• Support with sorting donations and price stock, keeping the shop stocked up, clean and tidy.
• Promoting Gift Aid and other Sense fundraising initiatives.
• Acting as an ambassador for Sense; promoting the shop and Sense in your local community.
• Supporting with the recruitment and training of new volunteers.

Patient Drivers – Ely & Llanrumney

Patient Drivers support with City Hospice’s day center by transporting patients to and from their homes to our hospice in Whitchurch. Our patients are based across the city and often need support with transport to attend on Monday and Thursday afternoons.

By using your own car to transport our patients, you’ll be enabling them to socialise with other people, receive complementary therapies, and have some much-needed entertainment.

Our patient groups run on a Monday and Thursday between 1:30pm and 3:30pm, with patients coming from across the city. We're particularly interested to hear from prospective volunteers that live in and around Ely and Llanrumney.

Would you like the opportunity to join the Board of a housing association whose purpose is to work with a co-operative ethos to help people & their communities to flourish? 

Co-op Homes (CHS) is a housing association which owns some 300 properties across London and the South East. We're also a managing agent for 30 other community housing organisations and housing co-ops, providing services to over 2,000 residents. Our unique proposition lies in our ability to provide expert housing management services to housing co-operatives and other small, resident-led housing organisations, enabling them to maintain their autonomy.

Board member opportunities

CHS is governed by a Board of Management made up of paid members who meet regularly throughout the year to direct policy and make major decisions on housing matters. The Board is also responsible for ensuring that we are managed efficiently, effectively and in line with the requirements of the law, regulatory bodies, best practice and value for money.

We have an active Board, currently made up of five members, bringing a variety of skills and backgrounds. Our Chair has been in the role since 2021 and we appointed a new Managing Director within the last year.

We are now looking to recruit two new board members. One who can bring strategic finance expertise and another with building asset management experience.

• Strategic finance: As a provider, we offer a unique set of services that have particular challenges. We are looking for an experienced senior finance professional to help us balance the risks and benefits involved in relation to our portfolio and scrutinise our finances strategically for the longer term. 
• Building asset management: We are looking for expertise in property management. This will include repairs and maintenance, health and safety legislation and regulations, strategic asset management and decarbonisation.

We would very much welcome applications from people who combine relevant expertise with lived experience of social housing or experience of living in a housing co-operative, as we know you would bring a unique insight to the role. For the same reason we would also welcome applications from minority groups. 

As a board member at CHS, you’ll have the satisfaction of joining a dynamic organisation passionate about making a lasting difference to lives and communities. We are looking for people who share our vision and values. Previous board experience is not required.

Bath Welcomes Refugees (BWR) is seeking a Volunteer who will coordinate the monthly social gathering we hold for Ukrainian refugees.   The aims are to offer friendship and support, the opportunity for people who are potentially isolated to come together and to signpost people to services and activities.  Volunteers can also help with wider community integration, helping with language development, cultural exchange, local knowledge, etc. 

Who we are:

BWR harnesses the goodwill of the community in welcoming and supporting refugees and asylum seekers to thrive in their new community.  BWR is a small inclusive charity. Volunteer-led and non-partisan, we help refugee families out of desperate circumstances and into a promising future. Our volunteers provide hands-on support with English-language teaching, resettlement support, helping with our creche and at social events. We also have volunteers who help with employability, DIY, gardening, fundraising and more.

Expectations for this volunteer role include:

• Liaising with volunteers and planning the volunteer rota for sessions, in conjunction with the Volunteer Coordinator.

• Liaising with the management of the premises as required.

• Unlocking and locking up the premises and overseeing setting up at the beginning of sessions and clearing up at the end. 

• Liaising with representatives of the Ukrainian community to plan activities and publicise events.

• Overseeing the provision of drinks, snacks, cooking ingredients and materials which may be required (e.g. for games or crafts). 

• Allocating volunteers to specific roles or tasks as required (e.g. kitchen, supervising activities with children, registering arrivals).

• Coordinating and supporting volunteers during sessions.

Your skills and experience:

• Understanding of refugee issues

• Sensitivity to other cultures

• Experience of coordinating team work and working within a team

Time commitment:.

• Sessions run on Saturdays from 12pm to 2pm monthly - time commitment from 11.30am to 2.30pm for setting up and closing down. 

• 2 or 3 additional hours monthly liaising with volunteers; contacting leaders of the Ukrainian group 

• Full day Induction Training session and full day First Aid training

• There is scope for expanding the role to include activities beyond this event, if you have a little more time to offer
