This is achieved by working in partnership with local organisations in Uganda, Rwanda, Kenya, Tanzania, Malawi and Zambia to provide direct services as well as by building local capacity. About the role
We are looking for a passionate and experienced person to join our Board as a Fundraising Trustee. This exciting role will contribute towards the development of a charity that works to improve the lives of children with disabilities in Africa. We are seeking a knowledgeable and experienced trustee in major donor, corporate partnerships and events or trusts and foundation fundraising.
The ideal candidate has extensive experience in the charity/NGO sector, preferably in an international setting, as well as a real passion for children with disabilites. Having previously worked at or volunteered for a charity dedicated to children and disabilites would be a bonus.
Above all else, we are looking for someone with a profound understanding of:
- Income generation for charities
- Grant applications
- Fundraising research
- Fundraising strategies
In this position you will be directly responsible for maximising the charity’s income streams, working towards steady income generation and continuously identifying and executing on new fundraising opportunities. Fundamentally, you will work in conjunction with the rest of the board to ensure the charity has the financial resources to fulfill its charitable cause.
Ideally, we would like someone to join the board who is hands-on, proactive and self-driven and who is keen to stay involved long-term (trustees are appointed for an initial period of three years).
Location: Meetings will be held three times a year via video call for inclusion.
Salary: This is an unpaid voluntary position. Reasonable travel expenses can be covered.
Start: July 2022 approx
Commitment: The Board meets quarterly, usually on Saturdays. Trustees are expected to attend these meetings virtually and assist with relevant matters between meetings
Terms: Trustees are able to serve two 3-year terms. We are looking for an individual who can commit to our board for a minimum of three years, except in the case of unforeseen circumstances.
- Ensure that the charity complies with charity law, with the requirements of the Charity Commission and does not breach any requirements or rules set out in our governing documents.
- To provide strategic oversight and input into the running of the charity.
- To contribute towards securing a sustainable funding base for the organisation.
- To contribute specific professional skills and expertise.
- To facilitate introductions and connections as appropriate to support the sustainability and growth of Able Child Africa.
