Act4Africa UK supports the work of Act4Africa Uganda, an award-winning development organization based in Mayuge District with a 20-year track record of successful poverty relief and women’s empowerment programmes. Act4Africa addresses extreme poverty by tackling gender inequality via health, education, agriculture, and livelihoods interventions. Please see our website for more information.

The Role

This is a great opportunity to volunteer with a friendly and passionate team to have a direct impact on helping girls and women in Uganda. This role is perfectly suited for someone who has fundraising experience and would like to assist a small staff team to strengthen the work of a brilliant charity.  In this role, you will use your fundraising experience to inform our fundraising strategy, and you will also provide practical assistance to lead and implement key tasks. You'd be like a "big brother" or "big sister" to our staff, guiding us to form effective fundraising plans and getting stuck in with hands-on work as well. We can offer flexibility as you will work remotely and your working pattern can be planned around your personal situation and goals. We are looking for someone who is self-driven, passionate and wants to make a real impact.

This is an unpaid volunteer position, but we will cover any reasonable expenses incurred in the course of your work.

Job Description

As the Fundraising Advisor/Assistant, you will support the individual giving programmes, inspiring and motivating donors to engage with the organisation more often and more deeply.You will report directly to the CEO and work closely with the Marketing Manager and Fundraiser to:

  • Develop and enhance the supporter journey, creating an inspiring donor experience that builds long-term engagement 
  • Communicate with individual donors, building and strengthening relationships
  • Provide insight and evaluation on the donor audience, campaign performance and opportunities
  • Assist the Fundraiser to increase our regular and one off donations
  • Assist with formulating and managing budgets as needed
  • Work with the other team members to manage major donor giving
    • Work with the Marketing Manager to reach a wider audience, developing and implementing marketing campaigns
    • Work with the Finance Manager to monitor income and financial targets
    • Work collaboratively to strengthen our fundraising strategy and systems
  • Support the fundraising and communications activities of the team in Uganda
  • Support the Senior Leadership Team with other tasks when required

About You 

Essential Experience and Qualities:

  • Enthusiasm for the role, a team spirit, and a can-do attitude
  • Passion for sharing your skills and empowering others to learn and grow
  • Creativity and an eye for detail
  • Experience of successful individual giving income generation and management 
  • Previous experience of creating activity programmes and business plans to recruit, engage, inspire and retain donors
  • Experience of creating and delivering multi-channel campaigns and using digital channels to acquire new donors 
  • A track record of providing excellent customer and/or donor care 
  • Experience of using a CRM database and audience segmentation and using data analytics 
  • Solid knowledge of the regulatory environment for fundraising from individuals, including data protection, Gift Aid and fundraising codes of practice and regulation
  • Good analytical, forecasting and numeracy skills
  • Proficiency in emailing systems such as Mailchimp
     

Desirable Experience and Qualities:

  • Website development and management using WordPress or similar systems
  • Social Media platform use in the third sector
  • Major donor relationship management
  • Other types of fundraising experience (Corporate, Events, etc)
  • Working in the international development sector
  • Lived experience in Africa
