Job description

Have you had experience in the criminal justice system? Do you want to put this experience to good use, and help empower others to achieve their goals?

We are looking for female peer mentor volunteers that would like to be part of a passionate and dedicated team that supports women who have been involved in the criminal justice system. Peer Mentors will be offered training, frontline experience, supervision, and opportunities to progress within the programme.

Advance’s Minerva service works with women involved in the Criminal Justice System offering safe, targeted support and advocacy to women to help them address their complex needs in relation to the 9 pathways to offending, such as substance misuse and financial difficulties. Minerva aims to reduce re-offending, encourage desistance amongst repeat offenders, divert women from Criminal Justice involvement as early as possible and reduce the number of custodial sentences imposed by Courts.

We have expanded our successful Minerva service as part of a contract funded by the Ministry of Justice and MOPAC (Mayor’s Office for Policing & Crime) to provide services to women with medium and complex needs.

Peer mentors must have experience with the criminal justice system. This could include prior experience of:

✲ Being arrested
✲ Being convicted by a court
✲ Serving a community order
✲ Serving a prison sentence
✲ Being under probation supervision

Criteria: Peer mentors need to be free from offending while living in the community for at least 12 months, no longer be working with Advance and free from all substances for at least 12 months.

This is a flexible opportunity where you will have the chance to volunteer in a number of boroughs and at a time convenient to you.

To apply: Please download the application form and job description.

Our volunteer intake occurs quarterly so we are looking for applicants to join us in October 2021.
