JOB DESCRIPTION

Your role will include some of, but is not restricted to, the following tasks:

- Lifting and clearing garden rubbish
- Cutting grass
- Help with other related tasks when necessary

Trailblazers has been providing mentoring services to people in prison since 1998 with ultimate aim to to reduce re-offending. We provide support to men between the age of 18 - 35 that have 6 months left of their prison sentence and through gate into their own community for a maximum of 12 months. Services are delivered in Wolverhampton in HMPYOI Brinsford, HMP Featherstone. In London HMP Brixton and HMPYOI Isis. We are looking for volunteer mentors in all priosn porjects that can spare half a day per week to support men to change their life through inspirational role models and goal setting. Mentoring sessions usually last 1 hour per week, to allow enough time for travel and liasing with Trailblazers staff this will take about half of your day. We are actively looking for people to join our mentoring community with lived experience of the criminal justice system, under represented groups from BAME community, creative arts, business skills, wellbeing - whatever your skills and background we are open to hear from you to support our diverse group of men.Out of pocket expenses are covered as well as training to equip you for your role. • To provide a positive role model for people in prison and in their own community, to be empathic and to have a desire and commitment to support people to fulfil their potential.
• To attend and participate fully in the initial and ongoing mentor training.
• To attend group support/supervision meetings and review performance within mentoring relationships.
• To complete mentoring session notes relevant to the mentoring service for monitoring purposes.
• To take part in introductory meetings with mentees and set ground rules and boundaries.
• To report safeguarding concerns immediately
• To follow relevant policies and procedures
• To perform your role in line with the aims of the organisation
• To meet with and actively develop a supportive relationship with mentees
• Be prepared to travel and undertake visits for mentoring sessions
• To make the necessary practical arrangements to meet the mentee on a weekly or fortnightly basis
• Assist the mentee to celebrate their achievements
• Support the mentee to meet identified goals
• Develop an understanding of the role, responsibilities and boundaries of a volunteer mentor
• Be committed to the project for a minimum of 18 months
• Regular communication with Trailblazers staff in support of your mentee
Skills/behaviours/knowledge required
• Knowledge of the criminal justice system and challenges faced by mentees (Desirable) full training will be given
• Awareness of own professional boundaries and the ability to report any concerns within the mentoring relationship that could be pertinent to risk to the mentee, or to others
• To be an advocate for a mentee and to actively seek opportunities for mentees for resettlement back into their own community in conjunction with Trailblazers staff
• To be non-judgmental, focus on the person rather than the offense
• Professional but relatable with strong communication skills
• Awareness of adversity and how to overcome barriers to build a supportive network around the mentee
• Basic IT skills
• Be able to take advice and guidance from Trailblazers staff
Criteria
• Over 21
• We encourage applications from those with lived experience of the Criminal Justice System but you must be off licence for a minimum of 12 months, and not in crisis yourself
• You cannot apply to a project if you have been a resident in the same prison yourself
• A good level of fitness to able to move around a prison at fast past that does include stairs
• Due to security checks at the prison you must be a British citizen
• Not committed an offense where you are barred from working with vulnerable adults or children
• Live within a 30 mile radius from the prison you would like to volunteer at

London Canal Museum is dedicated to educating and inspiring our visitors with the history of London’s canals – how they’ve shaped London’s development, the ordinary people that lived and worked on them, as well as the entrepreneurs who profited from them. We want to pass on the heritage of the canals so that future generations can learn about London’s industrial and social past.
Role Location:
London Canal Museum, 12-13 New Wharf Road, London, N1 9RT. We are a 5-10 minute walk from Kings Cross St Pancras tube and rail stations.
Role hours:
- One shift a fortnight, from 9.45am until 4.45pm
- The Museum is open Tuesday - Sundays
Role purpose:
The role of the Front of House volunteer is vital to the life of London Canal Museum – in small teams, volunteers in this role ensure the building is open and ready to welcome visitors each day, greet visitors and educate them about the museum’s exhibits and history, keep visitors safe and answer enquiries to keep the museum running smoothly across the day.
Key Tasks:
- Open and close the museum and ensure it is presentable and ready to receive visitors
- Greet visitors, welcome them into the museum and engage with them about the exhibits and history of the building
- Sell admissions, gifts and books, and ensure the till procedures are followed correctly
- Answer telephone and in-person enquiries
- Provide refreshments and assistance during group visits
- Maintain the various museum areas and ensure they are presentable
- Follow museum policies and procedures to ensure the building, volunteers, staff and visitors are safe and well at all times
- Training and support
All volunteers are line managed by the Volunteering and Training Manager, who provides comprehensive inductions and training to all Front of House volunteers in core areas including:
- Visitor Engagement
- Customer Service
- Health & Safety
- Accessibility in Museums
- Child Protection
- Retail Skills (including using the till)

Cats Protection is the UK’s leading feline welfare charity and our vision is a world where every cat is treated with kindness and an understanding of its needs. Cats are at the centre of everything we do and our objectives are: homing, neutering and educating people about cats and their care. We help thousands of cats across the UK each year thanks to our network of dedicated volunteers, staff and supporters.
A bit about this role
Without the passionate and committed teams of volunteers across Cats Protection we wouldn’t be able to help the thousands of cats and kittens each year that rely on us for help. Our Cat Welfare Team Leaders have the important role of coordinating, encouraging and supporting teams of fosterer volunteers and cat care volunteers. They help make sure volunteers with direct cat care roles are happy and confident and provide advice and guidance when needed. This incredible teamwork means we are able to help more cats and kittens in need.
What can you expect to be doing?
- Volunteering alongside colleagues including the Branch Coordinator, Cat Welfare team, Branch Development Manager and Vet team to ensure that CP cat care policies, procedures and standards are applied in branch
- Support fosterers to follow Cats Protection cat welfare policies and procedures
- Acting as the main point of contact within the branch for cat welfare and ensuring that welfare updates are shared and implemented effectively
- Supporting the branch by ensuring that accurate and up to date records of all cats helped are maintained, using specified Cats Protection systems
- Attending relevant Cats Protection volunteer training sessions and encouraging other volunteers to do likewise
- With the other volunteers, recruit, induct and support all branch fosterers and cat care volunteers using Cats Protection processes
- Represent the branch at relevant meetings
- Play an active part in the branch committee, being part of the branch team leading on cat adoption information and updates
- Collaborating with the Cats Protection Cat Adoption Team Leader to ensure the highest standards of cat care are applied in line with Cats Protection policy and procedures

- Basic knowledge and experience of cat welfare
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

- Basic IT skills to use Cats Protection systems - training and support can be provided
- The ability to handle sensitive issues with objectivity and pragmatism
- Committee volunteers need to be aged 18+
Time expectation
The time expectation for this role will vary depending on the number of volunteers and cats in care. Our Cat Welfare Team Leaders usually spend between 10 to 12 hours per week in this role which is flexible and can be shared by more than one volunteer if needed.

Unfold
Offering one-to-one support from trained and supervised volunteer mentors, our mentees are young people aged 10 – 25, and mothers with children aged 5+, who through mentoring sessions, are left empowered to get to where they want to be, through achieving our aims of boosting Confidence, building lasting Independence and Connecting mentees with 1 or more organisation.
What will I be doing?
- Mentors for Women provide emotional, social and practical support to Mothers of children aged 5 and up, either online or face to face.
- Mentors will empower women to identify changes they wish to make and goals they wish to achieve. Over 12 to 24 weeks, mentors offer coaching - style support to women to help them achieve their goals and get them where they want to be.
- Mentors will provide a listening ear and talk thorough the challenges women face. Together, mentors and mentees will explore how to achieve the goals and deal with individual challenges.
- Mentors will support women to make social connections with the local community or groups, refer and signpost them to other organisations providing more specialist support if needed.
What impact will this have?
- Mentors will help women break cycles of social isolation, improve family cohesion, and wellbeing by providing support in a wide range of issues.
- Mentors will empower women to overcome challenging circumstances and help them find new ways to connect with their local community.
- By being part of the Unfold mentor family you will be helping us to have greater reach in making a positive impact in the lives of many vulnerable families and young people, living in Westminster.
Commitment
- We ask volunteers to commit to delivering mentoring for 1–2-hours a week, over a period of 24 in person sessions. Although occasionally session are held online, through mentee and mentor testimonies we have seen the positive impact holding sessions in person vs online has, and so we would ask any perspective volunteers to be prepared to be available for all in person session should this be the required need of your mentee.
- Attending monthly group online meetings, which is a great opportunity for all the mentors to come together discuss challenges, successes and further develop mentoring skills.
Training
- Mentors are required to complete two stages of training as follows:. 1) Independent online training covering topics around safeguarding, confidentiality, the person-centred approach, the growth mindset and more. 2) Coaching and Mentoring Live online training - delivered by our Programme Officers, givng you an opportunity to immerse yourself in the role of a mentor, by going into greater depth of the independent online modules, giving room for role play and discussion.
- Mentors have a designated Programme Officer, offering 1-2-1 support when you need it.
What else do I need to know?
- A DBS check is required
- Due to the nature of our users of this programme, we are only accepting female volunteers for this role.
- In person session will take place near to where your mentee lives, within Westminster and Kensington and Chelsea boroughs.
- We especially welcome mentors over the age of 50, for our Women2Women: Sharing Wisdom, Sharing Lives sub programme. This is a great opportunity if you are looking to bridge a gap in your CV and get back into work. We provide references and development opportunities through training.

Training
- Mentors are required to complete three stages of training as follows:. 1) Independent online training covering topics around safeguarding, confidentiality, the person-centred approach, the growth mindset and more. 2) Coaching and Mentoring Live online training - delivered by our Programme Officers, givng you an opportunity to immerse yourself in the role of a mentor, by going into greater depth of the independent online modules, giving room for role play and discussion. 3) Specialised training on the Refugee Experience and trauma informed practice. Our training leaves mentors with a real insight in the role of an Unfold mentor, and excited and ready to begin their mentoring journeys.
- Mentors have a designated Programme Officer, offering 1-2-1 support when you need it.
Commitment
- We ask volunteers to commit to delivering mentoring for 1–2-hours a week, over a period of 24 in person sessions. Although occasionally session are held online, through mentee and mentor testimonies we have seen the positive impact holding sessions in person vs online has, and so we would ask any perspective volunteers to be prepared to be available for all in person session should this be the required need of your mentee.
- Attending monthly group online meetings, which is a great opportunity for all the mentors to come together discuss challenges, successes and further develop mentoring skills.
What else do I need to know?
- A DBS check is required
- Due to the nature of our users of this programme, we are only accepting female volunteers for this role.
- In person session will take place near to where your mentee lives, within Westminster and Kensington and Chelsea boroughs.
- We especially welcome mentors over the age of 50, for our Women2Women: Sharing Wisdom, Sharing Lives sub programme. This is a great opportunity if you are looking to bridge a gap in your CV and get back into work. We provide references and development opportunities through training.

Having someone to talk to is so important. Our therapeutic groups provide a safe space to talk, laugh and cry, amongst a welcoming group of people.
Why am I needed?
Our therapeutic groups include, recently bereaved, parents, children and young people, art therapy and other wellbeing groups. A qualified experienced counsellor is always present along with volunteers who help facilitate the group.
A therapeutic group differs from the bereavement café in that it is a set amount of time, and once committed, you will need to be able to engage with every session. These usually run over 8 sessions.
What will I be doing?
- Meeting, greeting and seating the participants
- Organisation of refreshments and snacks
- Informal communication with participants at the group

How long do I need to volunteer for?
- The groups take place in City Hospice and other locations around Cardiff. These can be on various days, weekends and evenings will also be a requirement.
- We arrive 30 mins before the start of a group to get set up and get ready to greet people and stay afterwards to complete any tidying up as required.
- Monthly peer support is also a requirement of the post.
What training and support will I be given?
Volunteers will receive an induction with Karen Fenna Counselling Manager or Sue Daniels counselling supervisor.
- Program of training is available.
- Support and mentoring with Sue.
- There will always be the opportunity to discuss any concerns you may have about an attendee with a member of the counselling team or a City Hospice staff member.
Do you pay expenses?
- All agreed out of pocket expenses which are incurred when carrying out this volunteer role will be reimbursed if required
All individuals registering interest/applying for this position will be fully assessed for their suitability. This will involve an initial screening either face to face, or via telephone with our Counselling Service Manager.

ROLE DESCRIPTION
Overall Purpose
The Finance Trustee will also be the Chair of the Board’s Finance Committee, and oversee the financial matters of the charity in line with good practice and in accordance with the governing document and legal requirements and report to the board of trustees at regular intervals about the financial health of the organisation. The finance trustee plays a lead role for the Board of Trustees in ensuring that effective financial measures, controls and procedures are in place, and are appropriate for the charity.
Although the Finance Trustee leads for the Board of Trustees in overseeing the financial matters of the charity, all trustees continue to be jointly and severally responsible, and therefore accountable, for the administration of the charity.
Main Responsibilities
· To oversee, and present budgets, accounts, management accounts and financial statements to the Board of Trustees after discussion with the finance officer, where applicable.
· To ensure that proper accounts and records are kept, ensuring financial resources are spent and invested in line with the charity’s policies, good governance, legal and regulatory requirements.
· To be instrumental in the development and implementation of financial, reserves and investment policies.
Main Duties
· Liaising, where applicable, with the finance officer or other appropriate member of staff responsible for the financial activities of the organisation.
· Chairing the finance committee in line with the governance policy and terms of reference, and reporting back to the Board of Trustees.
· Liaising with the charity’s auditors or independent examiner, where appropriate.
· Monitoring and advising on the financial viability of the charity after liaising with the charity’s independent examiner/auditors.
· Creating, in liaison with the finance officer, sound financial instruments for the control of charity assets.
· Implementing and monitoring that specific financial controls and systems are in place and adhered to.
· Advising on the financial implications of the charity’s strategic plan.
· Liaising with the charity secretary and finance officer, where applicable, to ensure that the charity’s annual accounts are compliant with the current Charities SORP.
· Acting as a counter-signatory where appropriate and for certain applications for funds.
· Maintaining sound financial management of the charity’s resources, ensuring expenditure is in line with the charity’s objects.
· Contributing to the fundraising strategy of the organisation.

Overview:
The Chair of Trustees provides leadership and direction to the Board to enable the Trustees to fulfil their responsibilities for the overall strategic direction and good governance of the organisation. The Chair facilitates the Board of Trustees to engage in debate and discussion and to reach sound consensus decisions.
The Chair also works with and provides support to the CEO and staff team to achieve the aims and objectives of SAtA.
The responsibilities of the Chair should be read in addition to those contained in the Trustee Role Description.
Responsibilities
The main responsibilities of the Chair are:
● To develop, in consultation with the Governance Committee, the annual cycle of Board meetings and the items for consideration.
● To work with the CEO and Committee Chairs to ensure that agendas and papers for Board meetings are prepared and circulated in advance.
● To chair meetings of the Board ensuring that all Trustees have ample opportunity to raise and/or speak on matters that they feel are important.
● To take steps to ensure that the Board is inclusive and accessible.
● To act as an example to other Board members to encourage team working and collective responsibility.
● To provide support to other Board members to fulfil their responsibilities and to enable access to development opportunities to enhance their overall contribution to the Board.
● To offer constructive feedback and challenge other Board members to promote an overall improvement in standards.
● To act as line manager to the CEO, providing appropriate supervision and appraisal (assisted by the HR Committee) and receiving regular informal progress reports.
● To be a representative for the organisation both publicly and with stakeholders.
Time Commitment
In addition to the time required of all Trustees, the Chair should expect to commit 20 hours per year dedicated to:
● Regular progress meetings with the CEO (1 hour per month)
● Preparation for Board meetings (1 hour per meeting)
● CEO Appraisal (4 hours per year)
Remuneration and Expenses
In common with all SAtA’s Trustees, the role of Chair is purely voluntary and the holder does not receive any remuneration for their service on the Board.
Exclusivity of Role
The same individual Trustee may not (except in exceptional circumstances) hold the role of the Chair if they are also the Treasurer.

All Trustees must have:

● an understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship

Trustees should also adhere to the ‘Nolan Principles’ of public life:
● Selflessness - acting solely in terms of the public interest
● Integrity - avoid placing themselves under any obligation to people or organisations that might try inappropriately to influence them in their work. They should not act or take decisions in order to gain financial or other material benefits for themselves, their family or their friends. They must declare and resolve any interests and relationships.
● Objectivity - act and take decisions impartially, fairly and on merit, using the best evidence and without discrimination or bias.
● Accountability - accountable to the public for their decisions and actions and must submit themselves to the scrutiny necessary to ensure this.
● Openness - act and take decisions in an open and transparent manner. Information should not be withheld from the public unless there are clear and lawful reasons for so doing.
● Honesty - should be truthful.
● Leadership - exhibit these principles in their own behaviour. They should actively promote and robustly support the principles and be willing to challenge poor behaviour wherever it occurs.
