Volunteers are at the heart of everything we do. The Prince’s Trust couldn’t function as well without the support of thousands of volunteers across the UK, who are able to offer a vital network to young people facing significant barriers to jobs, education or training.

As a Business Volunteer, you will work alongside other volunteer mentors and Trust colleagues providing short-term mentoring and guidance to young people or supporting Programme group sessions where expert knowledge, skills or experience (such as language, legal, financial, or sector expertise) is needed. We are currently looking for Business Mentors in Wales.

Our Business Mentors are involved in guiding a young person through regular 1-to-1 mentoring and active support, as they grow the necessary skills and confidence needed to achieve their goals. This may range from providing help, guidance, and support as they identify whether self-employment is right for them, through to remaining alongside them in the early years as their business establishes and grows. You may be helping them to test the viability of their business ideas, launch their enterprise, helping to identify markets and opportunities for growth and will be championing and encouraging them as they navigate the often-difficult early stages of their business journey.

Volunteering can take place at a delivery centre or maybe online, though most likely you will be meeting your mentee in a convenient public location that suits you both.

By volunteering as a Business Mentor you will be directly impacting young people who will benefit from your knowledge, expertise and experience.

Mentoring with The Prince’s Trust is centred around empowering a young person to take ownership of their own journey. For this role we are looking for someone with a good knowledge of the fundamentals of developing and growing a new business. It would be great if you have experience in things like business planning, selling, marketing & finance and are good at building trust with young people from a range of backgrounds. More than this we want you bring to life your experience in a way that empowers our young people to do it for themselves, so being a great communicator, creative, flexible and non-judgemental is essential.

It is important that our business mentors are encouraging, able to give and receive constructive corrective feedback and reinforce learning and progress.

You will be working with young people who have completed our Exploring Enterprise Course which is designed to help 18 to 30-year-olds turn their ideas into a business reality.

As a Craft Champion, you will be the main point of contact with families to assist them in undertaking seasonal crafts. You will ensure the family has all the items they need to safely undertake each activity providing assistance if required. You will have the support of the Learning team to undertake these sessions and we have plenty of craft materials for you to work with..

What will you be doing?

• Providing children with the correct equipment and materials to undertake seasonal craft activities. This will involve taking cash payments for crafts items purchased.

• Creating ideas and assisting in the preparation of crafts by re-stocking materials, producing samples for children to view and alerting staff to craft shortages.

• To assist in coming up with none plastic craft ideas for children to undertake during their visit to Castle Espie.

• Adhering to WWT procedures, such as Data Protection compliance, Health and Safety etc.

The role: The main responsibilities of your role will include:

• Supporting the grant review process by undertaking peer review of grant applications.
• Advising and supporting the staff team in monitoring funded projects.
• Supporting our strategic goals of funding research, sharing information and creating change.
• Helping to champion FRAME’s mission and charitable purpose.

Estimated hours: Approx. ½ day – 4 days per year. We’ll need your expertise during late April to early May, and late September through October to review grant applications.

Experience desired: We’re looking for panel members with scientific research experience most likely from an industry or academic background. This experience may relate to basic, translational, applied research, or regulatory testing in any area that is, or would benefit from human-relevant methods. This includes areas where laboratory animals have been used historically or are still widely used today but non-animal approaches are now being developed. Our current panel includes experts from such varied fields as bone tissue engineering and metabolomics through to neuropharmacology and ecotoxicology, and we welcome applications from diverse specialisms. The greater the diversity, the better!

Please note: All applicants should hold a PhD and be a named author on at least one published paper in a relevant research area.

You will support our Administrators and front line workers with a range of administrative functions to support them with their daily activities and workload. This will give you the opportunity to be involved with a variety of administrative duties including filing, writing notes and supporting the front line workers with the administrative preparations of their group delivery and updating of their client case notes.

· To assist with filing and maintaining of administration records in an orderly user-friendly system. 

· Support front line staff with administrative paperwork required for group sessions or group meetings.

· To assist with minute taking.

· To maintain confidentiality and data protection principles, raising any issues with your line manager as appropriate.

Additional tasks

· Engage in support and supervision provided.

· To keep a good record of your work, including reporting verbally to their supervisor and completing relevant forms.

As a Digital Champion you will provide support to our clients who struggle with IT and monitor our online peer support platforms. You will need to understand the importance of digital literacy to our clients. There will be a ‘referral’ system from keyworkers and staff members who will identify clients in need of digital support, while monitoring our Fuse and Discord platforms will be an ongoing task.

To be successful in this role you will have excellent communication skills, IT skills and a true passion and commitment to supporting vulnerable people to address their support needs and fulfill their full potential. The Forward Trust is committed to tackling ‘digital exclusion’ within our client base.

ACCOUNTABILITIES 

Service Delivery – Client support tasks:

• Provide remote support for clients who struggle with IT.
• Helping to build clients confidence and self-esteem with using popular digital technology.
• Monitoring Forward’s online peer support platforms to safeguard clients from inappropriate content
• Raising awareness of online services and the support available locally.
• Build a trusting and supportive relationship with clients.
• Listen to the clients concerns and work with them to overcome those. 

Forward Fuse:

Fuse is an online ‘learning and knowledge’ platform. It combines elements of social media with e-learning. Forward Trust uses it for clients to share peer support and receive news of events, activities and services.

• Supporting the Forward Fuse platform as a moderator outside of normal staff working hours – monitoring content and comments for breaking of the Ground Rules, and encouraging engagement.

Discord:

Discord is a digital messaging platform on which Forward clients can safely chat with others who share similar objectives around recovery and self-growth, sharing support and combatting isolation in the process.

• Supporting the Discord platform as a moderator outside of normal staff working hours – monitoring messages for breaking of the User Agreement

• Support with web coding (if you have relevant experience)

Pain Concern is a UK based charity for those living with chronic pain, and those who care for and about them.

Purpose of Volunteer Role

The volunteer will be responsible for reviewing Pain Concern’s information including leaflets, Pain Matters magazine and Airing Pain radio programmes.

Support, supervision and training The Listener & Reader Panel Team Leader will provide any guidance required on an ad-hoc basis.

We are looking for trained Clinical Supervisors who have been practising for over 3 years to lead supervision sessions with our volunteer Mentors. We hold these bi-weekly in groups of 3-4 over lunchtime or evenings online.

What will you be doing?

All Been There Mentors who work with our Mentees have monthly group supervision. Usually there are four volunteers in a group. Supervision can take place in person or on zoom.

Commit to supervising a minimum of two groups per month (approx 5 hours in total).

Key Responsibilities:

• To safeguard the wellbeing of the Mentors and ensure that their needs are being addressed.
• To ensure the quality of Mentor support work with Mentees
• To ensure that Mentors are supported and developed, are participating in continued training and are not left to carry difficulties and problems alone.
• To provide regular opportunities for Mentors working with clients to reflect upon both the content and process of their work.
• To develop personal awareness, skills and knowledge relevant to the Mentor’s role within Been There
• To provide a source of general communication, updates and concerns.
• To enable the Mentor to receive information and another’s perspective concerning their work.
• To identify development needs and opportunities.

Insurance costs are covered and the role is fully remote so will not incur any expenses.

About Pain Concern: Pain Concern is a charity providing information and support to people with pain and those who care for them, whether family, friends or healthcare professionals. Role Purpose: Pain Concern are seeking an individual who can support the Information Officer volunteer and operational team to devise a classification/indexing scheme for Pain Concern's online resources.

What you would be doing:

▪ Working with (including audio and video resources)

▪ Drawing insights from data and other sources to help shape a scheme that is useful and understandable to a range of stakeholders (patients, friends/family, medical professionals, helpline volunteers)

▪ Support with indexing/classifying website resources

▪ Assisting with user testing of the scheme

▪ Documenting the process for knowledge capture

▪ There is potential for delivering training to other Pain Concern volunteers and staff on using the classification scheme

Is this role right for me? We are looking for:

Why we need your help

• To enable us to provide a rehabilitation and enablement service to patients in their own homes.

• To promote independence and support to help someone to achieve their goal

What activities will you be involved in as part of this volunteer role?

You will be providing rehabilitation for patients in their own home. This may include;

· Helping with exercises that may make things easier for them at home (for example standing from a chair)

· Supporting people to manage their breathlessness

· Helping a patient to put some techniques into practice that may help with day to day activities.

· Helping someone to mobilise

Other activities include;

· Attending a joint visit with the therapist to be introduced to the patient and the exercises they will be doing.

· Dealing sensitively and politely with patients that you visit at home.

· Respect that you are in someone’s home and acting appropriately.

· Arranging further visits as agreed with the patient and the therapist within agreed hours.

· Promoting rehabilitation in all of your interactions with both patients and their families.

· Contacting the Living Well at Home team prior to and directly after a visit to ensure your safety at all times.

· Complete the visit report and submit it to the Living Well at Home team on the same day as the visit.

You will not be involved in the following;

· Toileting or personal care.

• An Introduction to Supporting People at End of Life training, date to be confirmed.

• Staff and volunteer induction training (covering all mandatory training)

• Living Well at Home Project training. Up to 1 day, at the Sydenham site or by zoom, depending on your availability. (Training is flexible at present and we will try and fit in with your availability)

• Ongoing informal training specific to the patient that you are visiting

• Monthly supervision sessions with the Living Well at Home team.

• Contact with the Living Well at Home team for support or questions regarding the patient/family at any time during working hours.

• Reasonable travel expenses will be paid

• Support from the Volunteering team including a regular e-newsletter

• Volunteer handbook and volunteer workbook

• Regular updates and training through MyImpact

• There is a short settling in period to see if the role is right for you

• This role will require pre-volunteering checks, which will include a DBS Check. Having a criminal conviction will not necessarily prevent you from volunteering with us. Every situation is assessed on an individual basis.

• At St Christopher’s we believe that no volunteer should be out of pocket because of their volunteering. The reimbursement of reasonable out of pocket expenses incurred whilst volunteering will help ensure volunteering is accessible.

 

Commitment to volunteering

Signing up to be a volunteer with St Christopher’s Hospice is a big commitment and requires lots of training and support from the organisation. With this in mind, ideally you would be able to volunteer with us for a minimum of a year. We would also ask that you to inform your manager if you are unable to attend your shift with as much notice as possible.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Why we need your help

Coping with bereavement involves painful feelings, coming to terms with loss and making adjustments in life. We are looking for a volunteer counsellor to provide counselling support to relatives, carers and friends of patients who are terminally ill or who have died. We are looking for volunteer qualified and trainee counsellors to provide counselling support to individuals impacted by terminal illness.

What we need you to do

Your role will include some of, but is not restricted to, the following tasks: 

• Provide 2-4 counselling sessions per week for in-patients, day services and community services 
• Identify when the level of support may be beyond the scope of counselling and that other professional help may be needed 
• Identify and agree desired outcomes with the person being counselled and how these will be reviewed / achieved 
• To be supervised by a qualified external supervisor 
• Provide statistical records on a weekly basis to the hospice administration team 
• To follow Marie Curie policies, standards and procedures

What skills or experience do you need?

• Diploma in Counselling from a recognised body or a final year student working towards this
• The ability to deal sensitively with people facing or experiencing loss 
• To be emotionally balanced and self-aware as this is a demanding role 
• To keep up-to-date with professional developments in counselling and specialist palliative care 
• An understanding of the importance of confidentiality and the actions required when working with people who may at risk to themselves or others 
• Supervision from an external supervisor and an ability to raise any concerns quickly

JOB DESCRIPTION

Coping with a diagnosis of a terminal or life-limiting illness involves painful feelings, coming to terms with loss and making adjustments in life. 

We are looking for volunteers to offer emotional and/or bereavement support either in a group setting through facilitation of support groups, or on one to one individual basis. You will be helping people to explore their feelings and adapt to their new life after a diagnosis or the death of a loved one. 

This role is supporting patients and families who are over 18 only.

Your role will include some of, but is not restricted to, the following tasks:

• Provide emotional and/or bereavement support either in the hospice, in a small group setting, over the phone or at the person’s home, according to local resources.
• Actively listen to clients and explore their feelings around the diagnosis/loss with empathy 
• Pass on appropriate information to your line manager.
• Complete appropriate documentation as required in line with our confidentiality (service user) policy.
• Assist staff in the Patient and Family Support team when necessary 
• Adhere to hospice record keeping procedures 
• Assist with other related tasks when necessary

JOB DESCRIPTION

Marie Curie has over 160 Retail shops across the UK which are full of gifts, clothes and even the odd vintage gem. They are vital to the work we do in raising funds to provide care and support for people living with a terminal illness and their families.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a volunteer who has a passion for selling online products and has a keen eye for all things unique. This is a key position supporting the work of our retail operations and will help to raise even more vital funds.

As an eBay Volunteer you will be providing invaluable support in the operation of our eBay shop by photographing, listing and preparing items for delivery. Part of the role will be to research items and check their value to ensure we are always achieving the best price. You will also need to respond to any customer queries both by telephone and online.

We are looking for volunteers who have excellent organisational skills and a keen eye for detail. An interest in retail trends and social media would be an advantage but are not essential. Previous customer service experience would be desirable.

We will provide you with all the training you need plus a friendly and fun place to volunteer

Your role will include some of, but is not restricted to, the following tasks:

• Researching and identifying items that could be sold on eBay, including researching the value of products to ensure best price is obtained
• Photographing items and uploading images
• Cataloguing and listing items ready for sale on eBay
• Fulfilling and packing orders
• Posting out orders promptly to the buyer
• Answer any queries from bidders/shoppers both online and via telephone
