Here at Deafblind UK our goal is to assist people with combined sight and hearing loss to live the lives they want. Our members are some of the most isolated and lonely people in society and we want to do all we can to change this.
Our team of amazing volunteers make our goal possible!
We’re looking for volunteers to help us reach out to as many people experiencing combined sight and hearing loss as possible. This could be anything from helping us get new members on board, promoting our free services or arranging local events for our members to attend. You would essentially be a friendly face and a link between our staff and our members. We can tailor our volunteering roles to suit your experience and availability.
Who we’re looking for?
We are looking for individuals who share our same care values and those who are:
- Patient and friendly volunteers to help our members remain a part of society and greatly benefit the quality of their lives
- Pro-active, creative people who can use their initiative to help spread the word about Deafblind UK’s free services
- Willing to learn more about Deafblindness and guiding/communication techniques (full training is provided)
- Engaging individuals who are able to take part in fun social activities to improve the members quality of life
- Able to commit to regular meetings or events

Help our members keep active
Many of our members don’t have the confidence to leave the house alone but would love the opportunity to stretch their legs. Due to their sight and hearing loss they can find it hard to keep themselves active.

Want to help improve Health & Social Care services, but don’t know how to do
it? This is your chance!
Being part of the volunteer team at Healthwatch Ealing – the independent consumer champion
created to gather and represent the views of patient and the public – you will play a role at
both local and national level to make sure that people experiences of health and social care are
taken into account.
We speak to patients and local groups to find out what their health issues and priorities are, and
listen to people from every part of our community, across the Borough of Ealing. We collate
patient experiences anonymously, which feed into reports for health and social care
commissioners and providers (e.g. hospitals, GPs, care homes etc.) and summarise the main
themes and issues raised. We also make recommendations and ensure our partners respond to
reports stating how they are going to address any issues or concerns highlighted.
Patient Experience in the office volunteer role is the opportunity to:
- Input patient experience information, volunteer hours and number of leaflets distributed
into our database/spreadsheet
- Proof read and approve the patient reviews from feedback center to website
- Search for information about GP Surgeries
- Administrative tasks, like staple surveys and organize material
This role can be fit to suit your free time
We ask for a minimum of 2 hours a week, on a set day and time, for at least 3 months
Is this your first time as a volunteer? Yes? No? It doesn’t matter. We can offer
full training and support as needed

Service evaluations are an integral part of our activity, placing as they do, service users,
patients and care home residents at the heart of assessing quality of service delivery. Effective
observation of service provision and evidence based reporting of the quality of care delivered in
various settings is a powerful means of influencing standards.
“Enter & View” is the opportunity for Authorised Representative to:
Go into health and social care premises to see and hear for themselves how services are
provided
- Observe the nature and quality of services (observation involves all the senses)
- Collect the views of service users (patients and residents) at the point of service delivery
- Collect the views of carers and relatives of service users
- Collate evidence-based findings
- Report findings and associated recommendations (good or bad) to providers and
commissioners, Care Quality Commission, and any other relevant partners
- Develop insights and recommendations across multiple visits, to inform strategic decision
making at local and national levels
What are the tasks?
- Attend training to become an Authorised Representative
- Undertake 2 monthly Enter & View visits for a minimum period of 6 months
- Undertake surveys with patients during visits and write up results to feed into reporting
- Participate in bi-monthly planning group meetings
- Planning group sessions take place before each visit. These are approximately 2 hours
