Role Overview:

We have recently transitioned from being not-for-profit to becoming a registered charity and we are now looking for someone who can support us as we move into fundraising.

Would you be interested in supporting vulnerable adults to improve their English skills? We are looking for a volunteer who can support with English learning online. English is a wonderful language, but it is also notoriously difficult to learn.
What you will be doing
Agree a mutually convenient time and frequency for weekly online tutoring sessions for the client.
Determine learning priorities alongside the client.
Prepare simple online lessons to help improve the client’s English (speaking, listening, reading and writing).
Possibly provide “homework” activities to be complete between lessons (if desired by the client
Provide an encouraging and supportive learning environment.
To keep records of conversations and update the client’s support worker on progress of sessions.
Keep an eye out for any safeguarding concerns and report an concerns to volunteer supervisor.
The skills you need

Chair of the Board of Trustees, Alternatives to Violence Project Britain
The Alternatives to Violence Project is a network of skilled volunteers who run workshops for anyone who wants to find ways of resolving conflict without resorting to violence. We work in the community and in prisons.
What difference will you make?
The Alternatives to Violence Project (AVP) serves people who want to handle conflict well without using or suffering violence, whether physical or psychological. Our trained volunteer facilitators deliver intensive, low-cost, conflict-resolution skills workshops in the community, in prisons and in other settings. We reach diverse communities, attracting people from across a wide spectrum of ages, ethnic backgrounds, and socio-economic backgrounds.
What will you be doing?
The overall role of the chair is to lead the Board as it sets strategic direction and oversees the good governance of the charity. You will be responsible for ensuring that the organisation is following correct governance and meeting its charitable obligations.
This is an active role, where time will need to be invested regularly outside of meetings to support this small charity.
In addition to the general responsibilities of a trustee, duties of the Chair include the following:
• Providing leadership to the organisation and the board by ensuring that everyone remains focused on the delivery of the organisation’s charitable purposes to provide greater public benefit
• Chairing and facilitating board meetings
• Giving direction to board policy-making
• Checking that decisions taken at meetings are implemented
• Representing the organisation at functions and meetings, and acting as a spokesperson as appropriate
• Bringing impartiality and objectivity to decision-making
• Planning the annual cycle of board meetings and other general meetings where required, for example annual general meeting
• Organise & run board and other general meetings
• Developing the board of trustees including induction, training, appraisal and succession planning
• Addressing conflict within the board and within the organisation, and liaising with the chief executive to achieve this
• Working closely with paid stuff to ensure charity stays on track vs it's objectives
What are we looking for?
We are looking for an individual who will be committed to AVPB cause and has the following skills:

• Good communication and interpersonal skills
• Impartiality, fairness and ability to resolve differences
It would be a significant advantage if you have experience of chairing a trustee board or comparable body. (e.g Chair of School Governors, Parish or Town Council Chair etc). Also advantageous would be a background in health or social care.

The Understanding your Bereavement (UYBO) Project is managed and delivered remotely, offering one-off bereavement support to clients via Zoom. The sessions are delivered by bereavement volunteers, the service runs alongside other Cruse services such as the National Helpline and Local Cruse Support Services. We offer bereaved people the opportunity to access support promptly, irrespective of the time of bereavement, geography or work/life commitments. By attending a session, a client can learn more about their bereavement and in doing so may not require further support.
You don’t need to have previous experience to become a bereavement volunteer. We look for people who are good listeners, resilient and are empathetic and supportive.

ROLE SUMMARY
The Chief of Staff is a brand new position at Youth Mix and plays a crucial and key role in ensuring the smooth running of operational activities by being the liaison between the volunteers and the CEO on all operational matters.
The CEO is currently heavily involved with the operational staff and projects. The team is growing, and the work is expanding. Therefore, we are looking for a self-motivated volunteer who is an excellent communicator, is great with people, a good problem solver to support the CEO and be a crucial link and coordinator between the CEO and the rest of the operational team.
This is a senior role and reports directly to the CEO. In this new exciting role, you will:

Act as a liaison between the staff and the CEO regarding the company’s project updates, processes as well as volunteers’ well-being;

Meet with the charity's senior team for business updates, supporting with challenges and escalating to CEO as appropriate;

Attendance at bi-monthly trustee meetings if required

Assist, communicate and support volunteers and Young Leaders throughout the decision-making, program management and initiative implementation stages;
