We like to think that everyone is suitable for our service! We want to encourage as many people as possible to get involved as Befriending doesn’t only benefit the older person.
A few things that do help are being kind, chatty and empathetic! You might be visiting someone that hasn’t talked regularly with someone in a while so it’s good to be understanding of your befriendee’s situation.
The visits are usually in the clients home, but some of our volunteers meet their clients in a cafe or go for a walk. As a befriender you can be a great link to the outside world and help our clients access other services.
Ability to commit to at least 6 month placement for one hour a week.
A DBS check is required.
