Volunteer Mentor (Big Sis, Lil Sis Virtual Mentoring Project)

Job Description 

Position Title: Volunteer Mentor (Big Sis, Lil Sis Virtual Mentoring Project)


Goal of the Position:To promote development, and positive decision-making, empower and foster positive relationships with young women who are in need of a positive role model 

Role:The Big Sis (Mentor) role is to support their Lil Sis (mentee) by: 

  • Acting as a Positive Role Model
  • Empowering to resolve challenges and coping strategies
  • Acknowledging strengths, talents and gifts and encouraging your lil sis to find ways to use them.
  • Be an active listener and offer support and encouragement when appropriate. 
  • Understanding the importance of boundaries, and reinforcing professional boundaries 
  • Commit to at least 2 hours of virtual/phone mentoring and check ins per week
  • Have some experience supporting young people - this can be professional or personal experience

Responsibilities: 

  • Take part in monthly supervision/group supervision with Mentoring Coordinator
  • Take part in checks from Mentoring Coordinator
  • Maintain Confidentiality
  • Check in with Lil Sis at least twice a week, with at least 2 hours of focused support/discussion/mentoring across the week
  • Submit weekly summaries to Mentoring Coordinator 
  • Take part in fortnight Games Evenings/Netflix Parties with other Big Sisters & Lil Sisters
  • Share any concerns, including safeguarding concerns with Project Manager and Mentoring Coordinator as soon as possible - safeguarding concerns should be shared using the safeguarding disclosure form
  • Attend the end of project Graduation Ceremony in London, which will be held in December 2020/January 2021

Qualifications:

  • Good Standard of General Education

Supervision/Training: 

  • Monthly supervision/training groups provided by the Mentor Coordinator. 
  •  Individual meetings with Mentor Coordinator when necessary. 
  • Peer Support through Big Sis Mentor Group Chat
