A bit about this role

Across the UK, many cats are cared for by volunteer fosterers who provide a stable, safe and loving environment in their homes or in purpose-built pens in their gardens. They provide vital hands-on care and accommodation to stray or abandoned cats or cats whose owners could sadly no longer keep them, and are part of a dedicated team of volunteers committed to finding new homes for cats in need. Our fosterers carry out this role with support from their local branch or centre.

Most of our fosterers care for one or two cats at a time and enjoy providing lots of TLC to those cats, who have been pre-loved or have had a difficult start in life. Some of our fosterers look after new mums and kittens and provide round-the-clock care to newborns to give them the best start in life.

Time expectation

In order to help you feel confident in your fosterer role we ask that prior to looking after your first foster cat you complete some online cat welfare learning modules.

Our fundraising events organisers have the exciting and varied role of helping plan and deliver local fundraising events to raise the vital funds needed to help our feline friends. Our fundraising events organisers use their passion for cats and people to plan cake sales, barn dances, quiz nights and everything in between.

What can you expect to be doing?

• Planning fundraising events and activities like cake sales, quiz nights and barn dances
• Providing the treasurer with information on funds raised from fundraising events
• Encouraging and promoting a professional image of Cats Protection 
• Following policies and guidelines and ensuring licences and permits are obtained for events

Our Cat Welfare Team Leaders have the important role of coordinating, encouraging and supporting teams of fosterer volunteers and cat care volunteers. They help make sure volunteers with direct cat care roles are happy and confident and provide advice and guidance when needed. This incredible teamwork means we are able to help more cats and kittens in need.

What can you expect to be doing?

• Volunteering alongside colleagues including the Branch Coordinator, Cat Welfare team, Branch Development Manager and Vet team to ensure that CP cat care policies, procedures and standards are applied in branch
• Support fosterers to follow Cats Protection cat welfare policies and procedures
• Acting as the main point of contact within the branch for cat welfare and ensuring that welfare updates are shared and implemented effectively
• Supporting the branch by ensuring that accurate and up to date records of all cats helped are maintained, using specified Cats Protection systems
• Attending relevant Cats Protection volunteer training sessions and encouraging other volunteers to do likewise
• With the other volunteers, recruit, induct and support all branch fosterers and cat care volunteers using Cats Protection processes
• Represent the branch at relevant meetings
• Play an active part in the branch committee, being part of the branch team leading on cat adoption information and updates
• Collaborating with the Cats Protection Cat Adoption Team Leader to ensure the highest standards of cat care are applied in line with Cats Protection policy and procedures

Life in a rescue environment is never ideal for any cat compared to a loving home. Our Cat Adoption Team Leaders support cat homing and as part of this they may lead a team of volunteer home visitors who collectively play an important part in matching our feline friends with their new families. Our Cat Adoption Team Leaders support their team of volunteers in all aspects of their roles, making sure our volunteers are happy, confident and supported.

What can you expect to be doing?

• Acting as the main point of contact within the branch for cat adoption enquiries via email / telephone and social media
• Supporting the adoption process through either homefinder questionnaires or a small team of home visitors
• Liaising closely with other branch volunteers to ensure information on cats being helped is correct and up to date
• Following up on any post-adoption queries
• Play an active part in the branch committee, being part of the branch team leading on cat adoption information and updates
• Collaborating with the Cat Welfare Team Leader to ensure the highest standards of cat care are applied in line with Cats Protection policy and procedures

Time expectation

The Cat Adoption Team Leader role is vital within our busy volunteer branches and centres. Our current volunteers spend around 10 to 12 hours per week in this flexible role, which can be shared by more than one volunteer if required.

As a Secretary to the Board of Trustees, you will be able to donate your skills, time and attention to our worthwhile and rewarding cause. In return, we can offer the opportunity to be part of a small, friendly and committed team with a dedication and passion for its work and every dog that arrives in need of care and a brighter future. We would welcome someone as a trustee but it is optional for this role.

The main purpose of the role is to provide support to the Board of Trustees with administration particularly with regard to ensuring compliance with the statutory and regulatory requirements and assist the Board in complying with the charity’s governing document.

Duties include but are not limited to:

Being familiar with the charity’s governing document, the legal responsibilities of charities under the Charities Act 2009 and the charity’s internal governance rules

Ensuring that charity trustees file all relevant statutory returns and information with the Charities Regulator (e.g. annual reports, changes to the charity’s details and/or trustees’ details);

Ensuring that the board of charity trustees are aware of the requirements to comply with the relevant codes such as the charity’s Code of Conduct for Charity Trustees and the Charities Governance Code;

Ensuring that decisions and actions of the board of trustees are accurately recorded and implemented;

Assist the Chairperson(s) of the board with the agenda for each board meeting including the management of any agenda items received from other charity trustees; sending notification of board meetings; circulating board papers/pack in advance of meetings and dealing with any associated matters;

Taking the minutes at board meetings and maintaining the records of all meeting minutes; keeping a record of all issues discussed, decisions taken and any actions required to implement a decision;

Working with the Chairperson(s) to ensure that the draft minutes are accurate; Issuing minutes to charity trustees for consideration after board meetings and dealing with any subsequent requests for corrections to be made before they are  formally approved;

Ensuring that minutes are stored safely and are accessible by the Chairperson(s) of the board and any other charity trustee if required;

Provide support in setting up and running any Annual General Meeting (AGM) or Extraordinary General Meetings (EGMs) as required.

We are looking specifically for people who can accommodate cattery pens in their gardens to be used for fostering. 

Pens are permanent structures requiring a solid base to be installed of minimum size 1430 x 4120mm. 

Dependent on your setup it may be possible for you to trial indoor fostering to ensure you enjoy this incredibly rewarding opportunity before we begin the process of installing a pen, as this is a significant commitment. 

We cover all costs and full training will be provided.

Swan Lifeline is the oldest registered charity devoted entirely to the care of sick and injured swans in the Thames Valley and surrounding areas, and has cared for over 30,000 sick and injured swans. Our aims are to RESCUE, REHABILITATE and RELEASE injured birds, providing shelter and treatment for up to 180 at a time, returning them to the wild as soon as possible.

Key Responsibilities

1. General Administrative Support: 

· Taking rescue calls and dispatching rescuers 

· Managing general public enquiries 

· Volunteer scheduling – via a rota

· Maintaining and improving (eg: digitise) office systems (eg: filing). 

2. Programme Support:

As a Grassroots Organiser, you will be changing animal lives by:

• Organising events/actions in your local area including social meet-ups, peaceful protests, leafleting and public outreach (roughly 1 event every 6-8 weeks is ideal where possible). All materials are provided and relevant expenses paid.

• Promote your events/actions and encourage others to join you, bringing people together for the animals to create change

• Joining us at other in-person events/actions including peaceful protests organised by staff and other volunteers

• Get involved in campaign actions remotely, such as writing emails, letters, social media actions and more

• Attend online events within the volunteer community

The events and actions you organise don't need to be big, 2 or 3 people getting out there for the animals will make all the difference and we have an existing community of volunteers to tap into.

Perfect for those interested in gaining firsthand experience in campaigning or volunteer management, or just interested in creating direct change for animals. If you’re excited by the prospect of speaking to the public and taking the lead to organise local actions, all while making a genuine difference to animals, this is the role for you.

You will be working directly with THL UK staff members who will steward and support you throughout your time with us, including a full onboarding process to get you started. We'll give you everything you need, no prior experience needed.

There is no set time commitment for this role, you can get involved at a time that works for you, but we ask that you organise at least 1 event every 6-8 weeks where possible. It takes around 4-6 hours to deliver an event (including planning and delivery). Whether you're a student, retired, working full time, or somewhere in between - we would love to welcome you.

A bit about this role

At Cats Protection we find thousands of perfect matches between people and cats every year. Our cat match volunteers provide the support, information and guidance needed to match the right person to the right feline friend.

What can you expect to be doing?

• Being part of a team that identifies suitable homes for cats in care
• Providing potential adopters with basic cat care information
• Completing homing questionnaires with potential adopters ‘virtually’, as well as face to face, which may involve visiting the homes of potential adopters
• Carrying out follow up communications if required
• Using online map searches to match cats and kittens to new homes

We are looking for someone with

• Basic knowledge of cats and cat care
• An understanding of suitable homing environments for cats  
• Good interpersonal and communication skills 
• Good level of record keeping and administration skills
• Good IT skills
• Access to a PC/mobile device
• Patience and the ability to deal with sensitive situations
• A valid driving licence and access to a vehicle (would be an advantage)  

Time expectation

Our cat match volunteers usually spend 2 to 3 hours a week in this role which is flexible and can be shared by more than one volunteer if needed.

As a Campaign Volunteer, you will help us drive change for farmed animals by: 

• Joining us for in-person events locally, and nationally (this may include peaceful protests, public outreach and informal meet-ups). All relevant expenses will be paid.

• Taking part in campaign actions from home including writing emails and letters, making phone calls and social media actions

• Connecting with your MP to campaign for change

• And more!

You will be working directly with THL UK staff members who will steward and support you throughout your time with us. You will also have access to exclusive training opportunities to further your animal advocacy development, as well as a full onboarding process to get you started.

Our team is based all over the UK, so we’re set up to provide you with a great experience no matter where you’re based. We cover expenses to join us at in-person events, so you can be based anywhere and still get involved. No prior experience is required, we’ll give you everything you need. There is no set time commitment, but roughly 2-4 hours a month is average for this role, depending on how much you choose to get involved with.

This fun and varied volunteer position requires great organisational skills, a passion for fundraising and animal welfare, creating input and multitasking As well as general computer skills and telephone skills.

You will be working closely with one of our volunteers, who produces the majority of our larger fundraising events as well as liaising with the wider team. The events will include musical concerts, theatre shows and community based fundraising events that will be run both online and in person. The locations of these events will be in all parts of the UK. You will be required to issue press releases, contact local radio and TV stations as well as help to organise and source prizes for the auction and Raffles. A basic knowledge of event planning and producing an event would be useful but this can be learnt within the role. Expect there to be periods leading up to the events where things are very busy but these will only be approximately 4 to 6 times a year. We currently require support with events in June, September and December. Moore may be added.

The role will require you to be present at the actual event you have helped to plan, being hands-on with everything from tickets on the door, helping to organise the raffle and looking after performers and special guests.
