Aberdeen, Aberdeen City
Job description

Incredible things happen when you believe in children… become a volunteer for Barnardo’s and see why.

We are looking for volunteers to help support our Aberdeen Young Carer events.

A young carer is someone up to the age of 18 who provides unpaid help and support to a relative, friend or neighbour who due to illness or disability cannot manage to live independently without the carer’s help. It may involve practical support like cooking, or house work, or emotional support.

Barnardo’s want to bring out the best in every child no matter who they are or what they have been through. We look at the bigger picture and strive for a better future for all children and young people.

An event volunteer will assist at our Young Carer’s events such as summer outings, Christmas parties and young carer’s festivals. They will support the staff member in delivering any planned activities e.g. party games, and arts and crafts. They will actively participate with the activity, engage socially with the children and young people and encourage them to join in and have fun.

Further opportunities are available to assist in promoting our events e.g. putting up posters and spreading the word, in helping us at recruitment events, or in fundraising.

Experience working or volunteering with children or young people would be beneficial but is not essential. We are looking for fun and enthusiastic individuals who are motivated to volunteer with children and young people and who will be reliable.  For this role we have no minimum or upper age limit, however certain tasks may be for over 18’s.

This is flexible opportunity, based entirely on your own availability and what time you are able to give. We would make you aware of any planned events to allow you plenty notice.

You will receive a high level of support, full training, meet new people, develop new skills and have fun! Mileage and public transport expenses along with reasonable out of pocket expenses will also be reimbursed.

If you have some time on your hands, are looking to gain experience or want to give something back into the community, come and volunteer for Barnardo’s!
