How to apply
Beds SU, the student-led charity at the University of Bedfordshire, is seeking a talented, committed trustee with commercial and/or business background to add to the diverse skills portfolio of its Board.
Beds SU is the representative body for all students at the University of Bedfordshire. The University is a Widening Participation institution of an incredibly diverse student body, with students from all backgrounds and from across the globe. The union’s mission is to empower students to achieve their full potential. Every student is a member of Beds SU, their students’ union, which exists to help every student at their university get the most out of their university experience.
As trustee you’ll provide expertise and experience to the charity’s governing board, which is made up of fellow ‘external’ trustees as well as elected and appointed student trustees. Bedfordshire is an important university, where students’ journeys resource them to make deep changes to their lives, raise aspirations and open opportunities. Serving as a trustee can be an incredibly valuable way of making a contribution to wider society, not least the Bedfordshire student body.
We’re looking for individuals with impressive experience which, alongside trustee colleagues, will support effective governance in the charity and advancement of the charity’s mission and strategic aims, as well as the safeguarding of resources, including its committed staff team and reputation. In particular we welcome applications from those from Black, Asian and an ethnic minority backgrounds, as they are under-represented within the Union at this level.
Beds SU trustees ordinarily meet four times per year; and trustees are asked to attend up to two further training or ‘away’ days. Trustees receive induction and the Board is supported by staff. Reasonable expenses are paid.
Apply via our website: send us your CV and a short statement of no more than one page of A4 (size 10 font minimum) outlining your motivation for applying and how your skills and abilities match those of the trustee we are seeking. Upload your information no later than 5pm on Wednesday 31st July 2019.
