How to apply
Keen on Cooking, our 80 year old veteran used to be a Chef during most of his civilian life. He would like a volunteer who will be able to provide him with puzzles, crosswords and Arts & Crafts activities on a weekly basis at his home, during afternoons.
Someone creative enough to adapt any activity for a person with sight loss – counting on the Blind Veterans UK’s financial support for materials. Does this sound like you?
And what about his National Service? Our member served with the Royal and Electrical Engineers and he served in Egypt.
If you think you can make a difference in our member’s life, we look forward to hearing from you.
By providing regular companionship, social interaction and building a positive one-to-one relationship you can help to reduce the effects of isolation so commonly experienced by our veterans. Your positivity, friendliness and communication can make the world of difference to their day lives.
Volunteers need to be over the age of 18 years and able to travel independently to and from our veterans home. Reliability, punctuality and trustworthiness are essential requirements for this role as are good listening and interpersonal skills. As understanding of the importance of confidentiality and relationship boundaries is key to this role. We will give you the necessary training, induction and support to be confident and enjoy your volunteering.
