How to apply
From classical music, documentaries and quiz programmes, to Natural world, farming and History, our 89 year old veteran always has something to talk about. She has a great sense of humour and used to be an avid reader and keen knitter.
And what about her National Service? Our member had joined the Women’s Royal Army Corps and served in London.
If you are an over 50 female with a sense of humour, able to drive and push a wheelchair (if needed), available to go out for lunches, shopping and outings, and someone who won’t worry about the fact that our veteran smokes, you are the volunteer we are looking for.
By providing regular companionship, social interaction and building a positive one-to-one relationship you can help to reduce the effects of isolation so commonly experienced by our veterans. Your positivity, friendliness and communication can make the world of difference to their day lives.
Volunteers need to be over the age of 18 years and able to travel independently to and from our veterans home. Reliability, punctuality and trustworthiness are essential requirements for this role as are good listening and interpersonal skills. As understanding of the importance of confidentiality and relationship boundaries is key to this role. We will give you the necessary training, induction and support to be confident and enjoy your volunteering.
