How to apply
Our friendly 89 years old veteran was born in London, spent most of his working life working for Smith Meters and Lloyds Bank and used to be a keen Bowls player.
And what about his National Service? He joined the Royal Navy and after initial training at Chatham, he became a Gun Layer. During his service, our veteran remained within the British Isles.
Even though he’s close to his son sometimes our member feels a little lonely, so another face might help. If you like to do puzzles, crosswords and could take him out for walks during afternoons, this may be the volunteer opportunity for you.
By providing regular companionship, social interaction and building a positive one-to-one relationship you can help to reduce the effects of isolation so commonly experienced by our veterans. Your positivity, friendliness and communication can make the world of difference to their day lives.
Volunteers need to be over the age of 18 years and able to travel independently to and from our veterans home. Reliability, punctuality and trustworthiness are essential requirements for this role as are good listening and interpersonal skills. As understanding of the importance of confidentiality and relationship boundaries is key to this role. We will give you the necessary training, induction and support to be confident and enjoy your volunteering.
