Body & Soul is an innovative charity that uses a comprehensive, community-based and trauma informed approach to address the life-threatening effects of adverse childhood experiences. Our community offers a wide range of innovative and creative programmes. These provide vital support in the areas of physical, mental and emotional health and well-being of our members. We also offer 1:1 coaching and a case work service for practical support. We believe that people should be able to live their lives free from shame, and no one should have their life chances reduced because of traumatic experiences in their past.
This internship will focus on supporting the Adults Service which is unique in addressing the needs of those aged 30 and above who are living with or affected by HIV. The Adults programme is an important lifeline for an isolated and often forgotten group of people who are struggling to live with the direct and indirect effects of HIV. The Adults Service Intern will support a variety of areas of service delivery. These will include; frontline engagement with members, supporting the delivery of workshops and 1:1’s during our Tuesday evening and forthcoming Wednesday daytime services, evaluating impact and supporting the ongoing innovative development of the service.
The role is designed to provide active learning in areas of group and individual support work, programme research and delivery, workshop facilitation on a broad range of issues and much more.
Our intern will be…
Assisting with the planning, design and delivery of the service
Providing engagement and outreach telephone support
Assisting with the development and delivery of 1:1 coaching and support sessions
Providing advocacy and casework on behalf of members
Evaluating programme impact and outcomes
Collecting and collating data for internal research projects around member needs, community demographic, mental health and other such like subjects
We are looking for an intern who…
- Is passionate about working with vulnerable adults
- Has a creative, proactive and adaptable approach
- Has relevant experience and qualifications
- Is looking to gain work experience in the field of mental health, advocacy and programme development
- Is willing to take on responsibility and work independently
- Can commit to a minimum 3 days a week (ideally Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday) for a minimum of 3 months
Body & Soul internships are dynamic and exciting, providing the opportunity to become involved in areas of the charity which would normally require greater experience. We offer weekly 'Intern Skill and Development Classes' led by different members of the Body & Soul staff team, these classes are designed to give you a deeper insight into the workings of the third sector.
Our Autumn internship programme will run from end Sept – beg Dec 2019. We will be holding interviews in early September.
