Why volunteer with Brendoncare Clubs?
Brendoncare aims to improve the quality of life for older people, and our local networks of friendship clubs are vital in combating loneliness and social isolation. They enable our members to develop relationship networks and each club aims to respond to the interests, needs, aspirations and choices of each individual.
Our network now includes online clubs, which are run on Zoom. This role is an opportunity to play an important part in running a online club. As Online Club Host Volunteer you will be a warm and friendly presence at club sessions, welcoming members and making sure that everyone is included in conversations and activities. You will engage with members and volunteers to develop an exciting programme of enjoyable, interactive activities. These activities will vary from club to club, but might include e.g. quizzes, games, speakers, seated exercise sessions, entertainers, reminiscence, discussions, jokes etc. We really want our volunteers to identify interests and skills from the membership and encourage them to contribute to their clubs.
This role can be combined with that of Online Club Admin Volunteer.
Who are you?
You will be a cheerful and engaging person, well organised with good communication skills and with some time to spare for this regular commitment. You will need a device (e.g. laptop, tablet) and be familiar with Zoom and email in order to access club sessions and training. It does not matter where you live geographically.
You may be looking for a role where you can use your professional and life-skills in a meaningful way; be interested to develop new skills, or be exploring ways to prepare you for future paid roles.
What is required?
We require two satisfactory references and an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. You will need to complete Induction training, which is currently being delivered using Zoom. There are other essential training modules, such as Safeguarding and Dementia Awareness.
How will we support you as a volunteer?
You will be managed by a nominated staff member, who will catch up with you regularly by telephone, Zoom and face to face meetings and will attend some of your online club sessions. During working hours there will always be a member of staff available to discuss any concerns or issues you have. You will have the opportunity to connect with other volunteers for mutual support e.g. Volunteer Forums.
As a volunteer, you will have access to Brendoncare’s Employee Assistance Programme. This is a free and confidential service, available 24/7, offering counselling and emotional support, as well as information and help to resolve issues such as debt, legal concerns and consumer issues.
