Islington, London, Greater London
Job description

Interested in psychotherapy and mental health? Have expertise in business development, communications or law?

Leading national professional body looking to appoint two new Trustees to help develop the organisation.

Two lay trustees are sought who have a strong empathy with the organisations objectives and have some understanding of, or interest in, psychological therapies and mental health. Experience, skills, and expertise in business development, communications or regulatory law are particularly sought.

We are looking to appoint two lay trustees (i.e. not clinicians) who can provide strategic insight and expertise to the board deliberations and support the organisation in its growth and development. The BPC is widely recognised in the counselling and psychotherapy community as a leading organisation setting high clinical standards and we are ambitious to develop and grow our membership and influence to increase the wider publics awareness of the benefits of high quality psychoanalytic psychotherapy.

The BPC promotes excellence in psychoanalytic thinking and psychotherapy; safeguards the public promotes the highest standards of training and research; and works to make psychotherapy accessible to all. We are a professional association and voluntary regulator of the psychoanalytic psychotherapy profession, publishing a Register of practitioners who are required to follow our ethical code and meet our fitness to practise standards. We are a Professional Standards Authority accredited register.

We run a number of lectures and conferences throughout the year, publish New Association (our well-regarded magazine for psychoanalytic thinking), and promote the profession through a comprehensive policy and public affairs programme that includes meetings with MPs and policy makers, and media activity

We are a not for profit organisation that has recently agreed to apply for charitable status. The Board meets approximately 6 times a year – usually on Friday afternoons – and an AGM. There are other occasional meetings where we need Board members input. The post is unremunerated but all out of pocket expenses will be paid.
