The Communications Volunteer will write and coordinate our external communications. This includes CAW’s regular newsletter, stories and general information on our website, and campaign and research pieces. You will work alongside both our Research and Campaigns volunteers and key staff members.
• Work closely with our advice, partnership and community outreach team members to identify stories, case studies, advice and volunteering opportunities to promote
• Have the opportunity to write a regular newsletter for community partners and stakeholders to promote the work of Citizens Advice Westminster
• Produce short copy to promote our services for a variety of sources including our website and social media
• Explore and pilot new ways to promote our services to Westminster residents who currently don’t use our services, including through digital media
• Work with the Social Policy, Fundraising and Digital Media team to create high quality written content for campaigns and promotional materials
• Contribute to fundraising efforts by producing copy for general appeals, individual and group emails and our website
• Proofread and edit copy produced by others when requested
Skills, experience and time commitment:
• Enthusiasm and commitment to work alongside a motivated team providing advice and information for residents across Westminster
• Excellent writing, communication and “people” skills
• Experience in writing informative, persuasive or neutral content depending on the purpose of and audience for the communication
• Self-motivation and the ability to work independently
• IT skills necessary to support research across numerous existing Citizens Advice databases and platforms
• Knowledge and experience of marketing and communications which is transferrable to Citizens Advice
• Experience with digital media, layout/design, creating presentations and/or fundraising would be advantageous but are not essential for this role
Ability to commit 1 or 2 days a week to the role on a regular basis; location is flexible but it is helpful to be able to come to CAW at least a couple of times each month and to participate in Advice Forums and other regular activities as these provide useful insights into our work and our clients’ experiences

Help tackle loneliness and isolation in your Community. As a Volunteer Befriender, you will visit an older person in their own home once a week for a chat and to provide companionship.
Our Befriending service supports older adults by alleviating loneliness and isolation, supporting independence, and increasing self-confidence, by making weekly or fortnightly visits to a client living in the borough of Croydon.
We place emphasis on making the right match for you and the client to ensure an enjoyable and rewarding experience. One of the befriending team will work closely with you during the match process and accompany you on your first visit to introduce you to the client.
You will be assigned a line manager who will support and encourage you. Kidderminster Foodbank are seeking to recruit Trustees with an interest in helping others, who are willing to uphold the food bank’s values, and who can bring life experience to the board of trustees. Trustees have collective responsibility for the governance of the organisation and for all decisions made by the Board. They set the strategic direction for the organisation, ensuring alignment to our values, and are responsible for setting organisational policy, defining goals, agreeing the financial plan, evaluating performance, and ensuring that strong relationships are maintained between the Trustees and the Management & Volunteer Team.
Key tasks:
- To manage the charity’s resources responsibly, including ensuring the charity’s assets are used only to carry out its purpose, avoid undue risk and not over-commit the charity.
- To ensure the board regularly reviews its structures, roles, relationship to staff and implementing changes if and when necessary.
- To develop a long-term strategy for the food bank with clear objectives which can be monitored and adapted.
- To work alongside the Treasurer and the board to ensure the organisation’s financial dealings are systematically accounted for and on time, independently examined (on income over £25k) and made publicly available when necessary.
- To ensure the charity is accountable, actively complying with statutory accounting and reporting requirements and the law.
- To ensure appropriate financial plans are in place for future budget allocations as well as looking after contractual agreements with external partners that award money for core costs and additional projects.
- To help promote the organisation to a wide audience of potential funders and beneficiaries and community stakeholders.
- To ensure the food bank has appropriate procedures to: comply with current legislation and good practice; including employment, health and safety, equal opportunities, safeguarding & GDPR compliance/data protection etc.

- To prepare for and regularly attend and participate in board and subcommittee meetings and any trustee away days.
- To provide ad hoc support to the staff team and volunteers from time to time.

General Election Campaign Volunteer
Do you want to help the fight to end the Housing Emergency? Do you have an interest in politics, campaigning or organising events and activities?
We are looking for volunteers to support local campaigning activity throughout our General Election campaign. This will be a varied role, with options to get involved in whichever elements of planning or campaigning that interest you most, as well as providing the opportunity for you to utilise your existing skills or learn some new ones.
This volunteer role is open to everyone, however we’re particularly keen to hear from people with personal experience of the housing emergency, for example of living in poor conditions or facing eviction. We’d love you to join us to use your experiences to fight for change!
Suggested Involvement: Contributing approximately 8 hours/days per week during our hub hours of Mon – Fri 9am – 5pm. This opportunity will run up until the General Election.

Our General election Campaign:
The current government were elected in 2019, which means that the next general election has to happen by January 2025. This is why we've launched our General Election campaign. We know that by working together we can make our voices heard and influence political parties to prioritise housing in their election manifestos.
Our manifesto, which was created with the help of 75 people with lived experience of the housing emergency, calls for the next government to:
1. Build a new generation of social homes.
2. Make renting affordable.
3. Raise the standards in rented homes.
4. Strengthen housing rights across the board.
Main tasks
This is a varied role, volunteering alongside the hub General Election team on tasks, which could include some, or all, of the following:
· Planning campaign tactics and/or stunts
· Supporting with delivery of campaign tactics and/or stunts
· Amplifying the campaign on social media
· Encouraging members of the public to take campaign actions e.g. signing petitions or sharing social media posts.
· Speaking with people both inside and outside Shelter about the campaign
· General administrative tasks.
Skills and experience required:
· An interest in campaigning, politics or social justice
· Good communication skills
· Ability to manage your own time and task load.
· Ability to collaborate with a team.

Role Description
The role of the Chair of Trustees is to give leadership to the board and to make sure the board fulfils its duties and responsibilities. Additionally, the Chair of Trustees works closely with the CEO to support her/him to achieve the aims of NIDAS, and, at times, represent NIDAS at functions, meetings and in the press, and broadcasting media.
Level of Commitment
- Six-weekly board meetings

Duties
In addition to the responsibilities of a trustee, the Chair of Trustees' duties are to:
- Provide leadership to the organisation and the board by ensuring that everyone remains focused on the delivery of its charitable purposes in order to deliver the greatest public benefit.
- To ensure that the Annual Reports and accounts are produced at the end of each year for presentation to the Annual General Meeting and to ensure that they are forwarded to the Charity Commission within the appropriate time period.
- Chair and facilitate board meetings and the Annual General Meeting encouraging full participation by all attending.
- Establish sub-committees and working groups to address specific issues/tasks as deemed appropriate by the board, and to call upon specialist skills of his/her fellow Officers and Trustees in relation to those groups, and to participate in such groups as appropriate.
- Give direction to board policy making.
- Check that decisions taken at meetings are implemented.
- Represent the organisation at functions and meetings and act as a spokesperson when appropriate.
- Bring impartiality and objectivity to decision making.
- Liaise with the CEO to keep an overview of the organisation’s affairs.
- Lead the process of supporting and appraising the performance of the CEO.
- Sit on senior appointment, and disciplinary panels.
The Chair of Trustees will also work with the CEO to:
- Plan and set the agenda for the Annual General meeting with the Secretary.
- Plan the annual cycle of board meetings and agendas for each meeting with the Secretary.
- Develop the board of trustees including induction, training, appraisal and succession planning.
- Address conflict within the board and within the organisation, and liaise with the CEO to achieve this.
Person Specification
