Job description

We are looking for enthusiastic and flexible volunteers who want to give back to their community - We are especially looking for Arabic and Spanish speakers.

The Volunteer Referral Team Member’s main responsibility is to liaise with referral agencies and partners, assess the guest’s needs, and identify the most appropriate programme of support for guests when they are referred to the Food Bank.

They will work closely with the Hub Manager and Food Bank Team to ensure guests receive food parcels, and will help to review and monitor guest progress. This will include identifying any change in circumstances and additional support needed, developing actions plans, and signposting for further support to internal or external projects

The Volunteer Referral Team Member will be the first point of contact for guests and referral agencies and will play a key role in ensuring that everyone who interacts with Central Southwark Community Hub has the best possible service/experience.

Key responsibilities:

  • Receiving referrals by telephone or email

  • Contacting guests to arrange assessment sessions and undertaking assessments 

  • Scheduling appointments, sending reminders, and providing guests and agencies with information about referral appointments

  • Developing an action plan with guests and identifying the best programme of support

  • Liaising with Food Bank centre Leads to arrange food parcels

  • Communicating with referral agencies in response to queries or issues arising from requests presented by clients at the Food Bank centre.

  • Developing and maintaining the database to ensure guest records are correct and up-to-date 

  • Leading on guest reviews and monitoring 

  • Liaising with internal and external agencies/ providers in order to better meet guests’ needs 

  • Bringing to the attention of the Hub Manager or Operations Manager any concerns regarding the day-to-day operation of the Food Bank centres

  • Computer proficient with experience using online databases

At Spring Community Hub we aim to tackle food poverty by addressing the underlying causes of food inequality.

Our Food Bank service gives out food parcels 5 days a week to people across Southwark. Alongside this, our Holiday Club and Personal Development Programmes offer opportunities to improve social inclusion and wellbeing, and our Back 2 Work project provides advice and support across a range of areas including mental health, immigration and employment.
