The Lewisham Toy Library has been supporting the education of children aged 0-8 years since 1972. It enables families and child carers to borrow educational, quality toys and play equipment. While encouraging child development, the Lewisham Toy Library also saves families money and reduces waste and environmental degradation through the re-use of toys. It is funded by membership payments and grants.
The Lewisham Toy Library employs a part-time Toy Librarian, supported by volunteers. The Trustees of the charity are responsible for the organisation’s governance, strategic direction, financial and staff management. Trustees also support the Toy Librarian in practical ways according to their time and skills, such as helping to organise toy sale and fun days, publicising the work and seeking funding to ensure its ongoing success. As a Trustee you will help to provide vision and leadership, ensure the organisation’s accountability & legal responsibilities and contribute to financial & staff management.
Chair of Trustees: The Lewisham Toy Library is seeking a new Chair following the outgoing Chair’s recent retirement. This role of the Chair is to provide leadership and direction to the Board of Trustees. The Chair will ensure that the organisation complies with its governing document, charity law, and any other relevant legislation or regulations. The Chair will work in partnership with the Toy Librarian, volunteers and other Trustees to help them achieve the aims of the organisation.
Other Trustees: new Trustees are required to join the Board of the Lewisham Toy Library to complement the skills of the existing team. The types of skills and experience that are particularly needed are any of the following: small business or charity management, fundraising, marketing and IT.
