The Role of the Board

The Board of Trustees is responsible for the overall governance and strategic direction of the charity, developing the organisation’s aims, objectives and goals in accordance with the governing document, legal and regulatory guidelines. Specifically, the Board is responsible for:

• Ensuring that the charity and its representatives function within the legal and regulatory framework of charities and in line with the organisation’s governing document, continually striving for best practice in governance.
• Upholding the fiduciary duty invested in the position, undertaking such duties in a way that adds to public confidence and trust in the charity.
• Determining the overall direction and development of the charity through good governance and clear strategic planning.

Trustee - Role Description

• Ensuring the charity complies with legislative and regulatory requirements, and acts within the confines of its governing document and in furtherance to organisational activities contained therein.
• Acting in the best interest of the charity, beneficiaries and future beneficiaries at all times.
• Promoting and developing the charity in order for it to grow and maintain its relevance to society.
• Maintaining sound financial management of the charity’s resources, ensuring expenditure is in line with the organisations’ objects, and investment activities meet accepted standards and policies.
• Interviewing, appointing, and monitoring the work and activities of the senior paid staff if necessary.
• Ensuring the effective and efficient administration of the charity and its resources, acting as a counter-signatory on charity cheques and any applications for funds if necessary
• Maintaining absolute confidentiality about all sensitive/confidential information received in the course of trustee’s responsibilities to the charity.

Accountable to

• Funders, beneficiaries, the Charity Commission, and Companies House.

Time commitment

• Attendance at quarterly meetings (held in central London on a weekday from 2–5pm)
• Ad hoc advice and support to senior staff and Board members, usually via email.
• Term for all Trustees is 3 years, with the option of re-election by mutual agreement for one further term.

Person Specification

• A commitment to the organisation and fixing our broken food system, including a commitment to Feedback's core values of collaboration, celebration, audacity, solidarity and impact
• Previous governance experience and an understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and effectively as a member of a team
• A commitment to Feedback’s anti-oppression work
• Experience in either marketing, community work and safeguarding, or law

NEON is recruiting for new board members and co-chairs. Shape and support NEON’s work with social movements by joining our board. 

NEON supports over 1600 organisers and campaigners across the UK working on social, economic and climate justice. This could be anything from anti-racism, to environment and housing activism, and grassroots community organising. We work together to accelerate social movements through training, relationship-building and infrastructure support. We’ve helped a wide range of organisations, campaigns and organising groups win change through building their mobilising, communications reach and messaging.

NEON is looking for two new co-chairs and an additional two board members to join our board as we build and implement our new strategy.

Green Standard Trust DAO is a community-governed, purpose-owned land trust powered by blockchain technology. Overview:

• Zero Hour is searching for 2x volunteer Press & Comms Officers to help support grassroots campaigners maximise communication and local press coverage of any progress in their constituency.

• This role will support the existing Grassroots Manager and Political Communications Manager in ensuring that all campaigners have the local support they may require. 

• Volunteer or paid experience working for an environmental NGO or charity is preferable but isn’t essential. What we’re looking for is someone who has experience or understanding of drafting press releases and liaising with local media.
   

Key purpose:

• We’re looking for someone to help Zero Hour support local grassroots campaigners with local press at key milestones in their constituency pages ahead of the general election.

• Tasks include drafting, proofing and supporting distribution of local press releases.

• Support in building local press contacts and relationships that can be utilised at future dates.

• Researching and sharing any press pick up that happens in regions with relevant grassroots campaigners and group chats.

Personal specification: 

• Experience in copywriting, drafting press releases

What we do

We help everyone use parks and their transformative health and wellbeing benefits. DEFRA estimates that if everyone spent time in parks, the NHS could save £2.1 billion a year, however often the people who could benefit most from using parks, do not.

We work with under-served communities to help them spend time in green space and we support small groups and community organisations to do the same. From supporting people with complex mental health needs to connect with nature and build community, to identifying and removing physical barriers to park access, we work to make sure parks fulfil their potential as free to use, community assets.

The role

As a Trustee with a communications background, you will take the lead at board level, whilst ensuring that the collective responsibility of the Trustees for the oversight and support of marketing and communications goals and activities. 

The main responsibilities of a Trustee is to:

• oversee the strategic direction of the charity as it scales to meet demand, and support the CEO in managing this growth;
• use their expertise to help guide the process;
• ensure the organisation works within the law and in line with its governing document and policies;
• keep informed about the activities of the charity in order to maintain effective oversight;
• take a financial overview and ensure that the organisation’s finances are adequate and responsibly managed;
• promote the work and safeguard the reputation of Your Park Bristol and Bath.

We have completed a skills audit of our existing trustee and staff team and we are looking to build experience and knowledge of marketing and communications practice.

At present, we do not have an in-house communication role. We outsource digital marketing to an agency and buy in support for campaigns when funding allows. We aim to have in-house capacity in this strategy period and need a trustee to help guide us to use our limited resources in the most effective way possible. 

Skills and experience needed

You do not need to have prior experience of being a Trustee or experience working with boards. We will provide training to fully induct you into the role and you will be buddied up with one of our longer standing trustees to support you in your first six months.

We are primarily looking for communications professionals who are passionate about the potential of Bristol and Bath’s parks and want to help everyone experience their benefits.

We’re particularly interested in receiving applications from people who are from ethnically diverse backgrounds, Disabled people, unpaid carers, or people from low-income households.

As a Craft Champion, you will be the main point of contact with families to assist them in undertaking seasonal crafts. You will ensure the family has all the items they need to safely undertake each activity providing assistance if required. You will have the support of the Learning team to undertake these sessions and we have plenty of craft materials for you to work with..

What will you be doing?

• Providing children with the correct equipment and materials to undertake seasonal craft activities. This will involve taking cash payments for crafts items purchased.

• Creating ideas and assisting in the preparation of crafts by re-stocking materials, producing samples for children to view and alerting staff to craft shortages.

• To assist in coming up with none plastic craft ideas for children to undertake during their visit to Castle Espie.

• Adhering to WWT procedures, such as Data Protection compliance, Health and Safety etc.

Village Solar creates jobs for rural marginalized women in off-grid, last-mile communities of Malawi through the distribution of clean energy products to low-income consumers. This means we recruit, train and offer ongoing business support to disadvantaged women, while also providing life-improving products to households in remote rural areas. In the rural areas of Malawi, a vast majority of households, schools, businesses and healthcare facilities do not have access to reliable electricity, and most operate without electricity at all. As a result, more than 17 Million people are losing their chance at a better standard of living, and are losing economic opportunities that could lift them out of poverty. Furthermore, poverty has a clear gender aspect. Compared to men, rural women face challenges in accessing decent work opportunities and struggle to translate their labor into secure and higher-paying employment.

We target underserved communities not being reached by the majority of current energy access programs. In these communities we recruit and train local women that belong to local Village Savings Associations (VSLAs) and bring them into our micro-entrepreneur distribution network. We provide them with in-demand products, primarily solar lamps and home systems, and compensate them on a commission basis. These women not only raise awareness of clean energy solutions but also serve as essential points of sale and provide post-sales support within their communities. We offer consumer financing that makes it easier for low income customers to afford our products.

As a face painter you will be out and about in the grounds, engaging with visitors to create memories and helping them and you to have a great day out!
