Job description

Every day, we are thrilled to be part of a world which uses the power of music to bring joy.  We understand the importance of music education and we look for as many ways as possible to bring creative practices to enrich physical and mental wellbeing.  If you would like to join us, then please read on.

What is Dalcroze Eurhythmics?

Dalcroze Eurhythmics is a multi-sensory route to musical expression, offering techniques for using the body as well as the mind as a tool for musical perception, preparation, and performance. Making fascinating connections between music and movement, the Dalcroze approach to musical learning makes music vivid for anyone, from early years through adult professionals to older adults/amateur settings.

Who are we?

Dalcroze UK is the registered charity which supports and promotes the teaching and training methods developed by Emile Jaques-Dalcroze and his pupils: to engage the whole body in the process of musical creativity, learning, expression and perception. Dalcroze UK is part of the worldwide Dalcroze federation and provides internationally recognized training courses in the UK, attended by students from across the world. The Board of Trustees is building on creative solutions devised during the pandemic to develop programmes around the UK to grow the educational and community engagement activities.

Why would you join us?

If you are passionate about the power of music to bring joy, about the importance of music education, and are interested in strategic planning and the delivery of creative practices to enrich physical and mental wellbeing, then we would like to hear from you.

You would be joining an energetic, highly experienced team who are committed to developing the impact of Dalcroze Eurhythmics in the UK. You do not need to have any prior experience of Dalcroze Eurhythmics.   Above all, you need to believe in the value of music and movement for all. We want to broaden the representation and range of expertise of the Board, with particular focus on Inclusivity, Diversity and Equality, Financial Management and Educational Partnerships.

Previous Board or charity experience is not necessary – we will provide a tailored training programme for you.

Time commitment: about 6 hours a month.

Meetings: Two online and one in-person per year, AGM and occasional Sub-Committee online meetings

Other commitments: Invitations to attend events and training courses.

During the year, there will be occasional contact in between meetings to attend to urgent issues, and you will be invited to spend time to attend events or training courses.

Dalcroze UK is seeking three new trustees, from a wide range of backgrounds, who will bring fresh perspectives to the Board. Trustees are keen for the Board to reflect the diversity of the communities that Dalcroze UK works. We welcome applications from anyone over the age of eighteen, the minimum age allowed by UK Charity law.
