How to apply
Pay a monthly visit to Margaret and be the breath of fresh air she needs......
Our member, Margaret, lives with her husband in Stafford and is looking for a friendly, caring befriender to visit her once a month. She is a full time carer for her husband who is now quite ill whilst at the same time managing her own hearing and sight loss. Due to these health problems and carer duties, she is finding herself feeling lonely and isolated and more and more cut off from her local community. and would love to just have a little respite from her caring role.
Margaret used to be a university lecturer teaching nursing and used to love flower arranging, gardening and cooking. She also used to like to feed the birds but does not feel she can do any of these things now due to her lack of sight. She does however love to walk and says that she could walk for miles as long as she has someone with her.
Margaret is looking for someone to accompany her on a visit to Marks and Spencer when needed for a look around (maybe twice a year) and would also like to use the time to just go for a walk and to sit and have a coffee. Margaret communicates with clear speech and uses a cane but says that any volunteer will need to be very close by while they are out of the house.Full guiding training will be provided as part of this opportunity.
Ideally, she would like a visit on a Thursday or Friday at any time - if you have an understanding of blindness and are a caring, friendly individual you can make a huge change to Margaret's life. No other experience is required at all.
