Our amazing team of volunteers help us run over 100 shops across England and Wales.
Every donated item that you sort, prepare and sell helps to raise vital funds to support us in our mission to make sure no one, no matter how complex their disabilities, is isolated, left out, or unable to fulfil their potential. Our shops are at the heart of local communities – sharing the work of Sense, and helping to secure support for our life changing work.

Volunteering in one of our Sense Shops will involve a variety of tasks that you can get involved with. These include:
- Welcoming and assisting customers, providing great customer service and a fantastic shopping experience
- Receiving donated goods from members of the public
- Sorting, steaming, tagging and preparing donated goods for sale
- Creating eye catching window and in-shop displays
- Keeping the shop floor well stocked, tidy, clean and organised
- Processing sales and serving on the till
- Promoting Gift Aid and other Sense fundraising initiatives
- Acting as an ambassador for Sense; promoting the shop and Sense in your local community
- Supporting with the recruitment and training of new volunteers
- Following new health, safety and social distancing measures to ensure the safety of everyone

Role description for Trustees of The Disability Resource Centre
The duties of a Trustee are:
1. To ensure that the charity complies with its governing document, charity law, company law, and any other relevant legislation or regulations.
2. To ensure that the charity pursues its charitable objects as defined in its governing document.
3. To ensure that the charity applies its resources exclusively in furtherance of its objects, i.e. the charity must not spend money on activities, which are not included in its own objects, no matter how worthwhile or charitable those activities are.
4. To contribute actively to the board of Trustees’ role of giving firm strategic direction to the organisation, setting overall policy, defining goals, setting targets and evaluating performance against agreed targets.
5. To safeguard the good name and values of the charity.
6. To ensure the effective and efficient administration of the charity.
7. To ensure the financial stability of the charity.
8. To protect and manage the property of the charity and to ensure the proper investment of the charity’s funds.
9. To appoint and support the Chief Executive Officer and monitor their performance.
10.In addition to the above statutory duties of all trustees, each trustee should use any specific knowledge or experience he or she may have to help the board of trustees reach sound decisions. This will involve scrutinising board papers, leading discussions, focusing on key issues, and providing advice and guidance requested by the board on new initiatives or other issues relevant to the area of the charity’s work in which the Trustee has special expertise.
The Board of Trustees meets every two months at our offices in Flitwick. Trustees are asked to join at least one committee where they can use their skills to discuss matters in more detail. These are Personnel Committee, Services and Marketing Committee and Finance and General Purposes Committee. They meet every two months and are currently held online. Trustees will need time to read the reports in preparation for meetings. Individual Trustees often contribute in other ways supporting working groups or task and finish activity.

Due to the nature of the group, this opportunity is for men only. The Men’s Health Telephone Group is a chance for blind and partially sighted men to come together and discuss any aspects of men’s health over the telephone once a month. This group is for men to share experiences of any aspect of men’s health including sexual health, contraception, etc. However, the group is not for the sharing of medical advice. You should be someone who is comfortable listening to conversations about men’s health that may include talk of a sexual or personal nature. You will be: Helping to ensure participants feel comfortable and to facilitate discussion. Helping the group participants feel safe to be in the group and to enable them to join in the group discussion month. Looking after participant welfare within the group and flagging any welfare or safeguarding concerns to Talk and Support for follow up. You will also ensure that no medical specific information is given in the group.

Blesma, The Limbless Veterans is the national charity and membership association for limbless serving and ex-service men and women and their dependants.
We help all wounded servicemen and women who have lost limbs, the use of limbs or eyes, to rebuild their lives by providing rehabilitation activities and welfare support.
We are looking for Volunteers to help the Fundraising Team at in person fundraising and awareness raising events throughout the UK. We’re a small and friendly team, operating at a regional and national level. We organise Blesma events and collections, attend third party events and support fundraisers doing their own events.
By volunteering with us, you will have the opportunity to gain first-hand experience of volunteering for a charity and will contribute to our work supporting injured veterans and their families.

• We need your help to assist visually impaired people to use their smart phones, tablets and laptops by adjusting accessibility settings, support with apps and how to use speech and voice feedback.
What activities will I be involved in?
• One to one, hour long appointments with service users
• Adjust accessibility settings and teach how to use speech and voice feedback
• Introduce Apps that can help users read documents or listen to audio books.
• Help to troubleshoot technical issues
• Explain the benefits of IT to those who are wary of, or intimidated by modern technology.
What skills and abilities will I need to have?
• A good understanding of using smart phones and tablets.
• Knowledge of Android, Apple or Microsoft operating systems

How much time should I offer?
• This role is flexible but we do look for a regular commitment.
• IT appointments are at our support centres at locations around Warwickshire.
• Rugby, Nuneaton , Coleshill, Atherstone and Bedworth
• Depending on the location sessions are weekly or monthly either 9:30am to 11:30pm or 2:30pm to 4:30pm

• You will receive an induction when you start
• We will provide any training you need to complete the role

• You will be supported by our IT4U team

Will I need my own transport?

Fundraising Volunteer – Office based
We're looking for a friendly and enthusiastic person to support the Fundraising Team
Blesma, The Limbless Veterans is the national charity and membership association for limbless serving and ex-service men and women and their dependants.

We are looking for a Volunteer to help the Fundraising Team with office tasks. You will be providing practical, administrative and research support across the team. We’re a small and friendly team operating at a national level. Your work will help provide excellent donor care to our supporters, as well as assisting with the smooth running of our office and fundraising activities.
By volunteering with us, you will have the opportunity to gain first-hand experience of volunteering for a charity and will contribute to our work supporting injured veterans and their families.

Researcher (voluntary)
Real are running a study into disability and wellbeing, and we are looking for D/deaf and Disabled people to train as field researchers to support the work.
We plan to interview 1000 Disabled people across London over two years using a tool validated by the World Health Organisation. The tool analyses the impact that different services and interventions have on Disabled people’s wellbeing, and each interview participant will receive a personalized report on what the tool says about them after the interview.
This is an exciting opportunity to be involved in research that will have both a great personal impact for the participants and that will provide the evidence base to make services better for everyone.
No experience in interviewing or research is needed to volunteer. Instead, you will receive:

In-depth training in interview and research skills, GDPR compliance, safeguarding and disability equality.

A DBS check if you do not have this already.

A £40 voucher for the retailer of your choice after completing the training and 5 interviews, and more vouchers the more interviews that you do.

Access to a peer support network for trainee researchers, with meetings held quarterly.
You need to be 18 or older and live in London to volunteer with the project, and you will need to be comfortable conducting the interviews. You must also have lived experience of disability and be available for at least half of one weekday per week, as not all interviews can be scheduled in the evenings or weekends.
