RHS Garden Hyde Hall, Chelmsford, Essex
Do you have a passion for plants and horticulture? Why not help the UK’s leading gardening charity based in the beautiful setting of RHS Garden Hyde Hall in Essex?
Hyde Hall has many varied plant collections and garden areas within the 365-acre site, attracting more than 340,000 visitors per year.
As a garden volunteer, you will assist with ‘day-to-day’ garden maintenance work, primarily weeding and edging in one of the most glorious gardens in the country. Opportunities are available to help assist the horticultural team to maintain our inspirational ornamental plantings. You will also interact with our many visitors and act as advocates for the charitable work of the RHS.
Applicants should have a passion for horticulture and gardening, enjoy being in an outdoor situation and be reasonably physically fit (garden tasks can be physically demanding). A basic knowledge of ornamental plants is also desirable but not essential as guidance and training will be given by our gardeners.
We ask that Garden Volunteers give a commitment of half a day (from 9am to 1pm i.e. fours hours volunteering including a tea break) per week on a regular set day (Monday–Thursday only). Our volunteering season runs from mid-March to mid-November each year.
We do expect a reasonable commitment from our volunteers but, of course, we understand that life will sometimes get in the way, so it is important that applicants think about how much time they can realistically spend with us before completing the application.
Places are extremely limited so unfortunately, not all applicants will be able to join us.
