Space Youth Services charitable aims:
Space unlocks potential with young people and their communities by providing safe spaces to grow, connect and inspire each other. Space delivers professional youth work, community projects and other services to ensure young people have the best opportunities to succeed. We are driven by our values:
Integrity - Doing what’s right, even when no one is watching
Respect - Interacting with fairness, kindness and dignity
Determination - We give people a second chance, and a third, fourth, fifth....
Collaborative - Doing great things together and with others
Accountable - Managing risk, taking responsibility with each other and our stakeholders
Dynamic - Creating fun and a little bit of weirdness
We bring passion, integrity and collaboration through all of our work and provide a wide range of targeted, needs-led, and professional services. We support young people from all circumstances and backgrounds to learn, create and realise their potential by providing spaces to hang out safely with peers, talk about things they can’t ask their parents, gain confidence and try new things.
We are a not-for-profit charity and as an independent organisation we are able to focus on delivering the best services for young people in our communities. We manage risks, we are respectful whilst creating a fun space for people to grow, and we’re determined to give people a second chance as well as a third, fourth, and fifth one. We thrive on the trusted partnerships we have developed with over 70 other youth organisations across Devon, from national charities to small community based youth clubs and single issue focused organisations (food banks, domestic violence etc).
Space’s management and governance structure:
Space* was established as a Public Service Mutual (PSM) and we promote employee ownership at all levels of governance. Our Board of Independent and Staff Trustees have created mechanisms to directly hear the voices of young people, enabling them to help drive the direction of their organisation. We are led by a very experienced board of trustees, leadership team, staff progress group and young person's progress group. Many of these, including those in our leadership team and wider workforce, are effective because of their own lived experiences and overcoming adversities.
