We’re looking for Volunteers aged 16+ who live in and around Hackney to join our crew! 

As a Volunteer Crewmate, you’ll come along to our teacher-led afterschool sessions to help children aged 9 to 13 develop their reading and writing skills. By championing their work and celebrating everything they do, you will help them, one-to-one and in small groups, to become published authors!

Numberfit is looking for assistance researching and applying for grants and funding to help them fulfil their social mission.

Description

Numberfit is a social enterprise that makes learning maths fun and engaging for children across age groups and attainment levels. 

With this role, you will help us research, develop, and write grant proposals to various organisations. Your ability to effectively convey our organisation's goals, impact, and needs through compelling proposals will directly contribute to our ability to fund and execute projects that make a positive impact in children’s education and wellbeing.

Full training will be given and no experience is necessary.

Your responsibilities will be:

• Researching and identifying relevant grant opportunities aligned with our mission and programmes.
• Collaborating with the team to gather necessary information for proposals.
• Writing clear, concise, and compelling grant applications and proposals.
• Ensuring all grant proposals meet the submission requirements and deadlines.
• You will be working alongside our founder as part of our small team.

What are we looking for? 

We’re looking for someone who has excellent written and verbal communication skills.

The volunteer should also have:

• Excellent writing and communication skills.
• Great attention to detail.
• Strong research abilities to identify potential grant sources.
• Previous experience in grant writing or proposal development (preferred but not mandatory).
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
• A passion for children’s education and wellbeing.

Lay members of Council have a vital part to play in the governance of the University and bring knowledge and experience of particular value, given the nature of the environment in which universities work.

Lay Members are expected to play an appropriate part in ensuring that the necessary business of Council is carried on efficiently, effectively, and in a manner appropriate for the proper conduct of public business. You will be expected to make rational and constructive contributions to debate and to make your knowledge and expertise available to Council as opportunities arise.

Members have a responsibility to ensure that the governing body acts in accordance with the instruments of governance of the University and exercises efficient and effective use of the resources of the University to meet its charitable objectives, maintain long-term financial viability, and safeguard its assets.

Are you seeking to use your organisational and administrative skills to help provide a better future for disadvantaged children? We’re looking for a new secretary to assist with the running of our small but highly effective charity which provides impoverished children from North East Ghana with the uniform and equipment needed for primary school.

You will oversee fundraising efforts for Students4Students, which includes grant writing, running campaings and overseeing our team of Branch Fundraising Officers.

Students4Students (S4S) is a national charity, that works to ensure all children can achieve their potential, which is seeking to grow. We need to increase our fundraising to support our growth ambitions.

S4S has c.100 volunteers split across 4 branches. Each branch is semi-independent and run by student committees. These students are supported via our committee programme. At each of these committees, we have a student Fundraising Officer.

We are therefore looking for someone who can:

1) Lead our central fundraising efforts through research and applying for grants, and co-ordinating fundraising for the charity as a whole.

2) Train and support our local branch fundraising officers in their fundraising activities, including showing them how to apply for grants, how to fundraise effectively and how to co-ordinate key events.

• Owning and managing fundraising activities for S4S.

About CARAS:

Community Action for Refugees and Asylum Seekers (CARAS) is a charity that supports refugees and people seeking asylum who live in south London, helping them to play their full part in the community. We offer a range of individual and group support to improve the holistic wellbeing of people who have a background of forced migration, providing them with tools to build lives filled with value, meaning and purpose in the UK. Our activities for adults currently include: ESOL classes (English for Speakers of Other Languages), a creative writing workshop, drama group, yoga and gardening project.

About the CARAS ESOL Team:

COVID has posed unprecedented challenges to refugees and people seeking asylum in London. Many of those we meet have arrived alone in the UK and have been living in contingency accommodation for many months. Our ESOL team offer English language classes to adults at a wide range of levels. This provides vital skills, opportunities and social contact and is crucial for enabling people to attend college and access other services in the future.

About the Role:

CARAS is looking for volunteer ESOL Teaching Assistants to support our online Zoom classes on Tuesday mornings:

Entry 1 class: 10 to 11.30am

Entry 2 class: 11.30am to 1pm (plus a 15-minute debrief)

You are welcome to apply to volunteer in one or both classes. Please note that ESOL classes do not run during school holidays, and we follow Wandsworth Council term dates.

As a volunteer ESOL Teaching Assistant your role is flexible and varied. It will involve supporting the Adult ESOL Teacher in the delivery of online Zoom classes, as well as providing learners with one-to-one or small-group support.

Volunteer  tasks and responsibilities:

Providing learners with one-to-one or small group support within ESOL classes;

Helping learners build confidence in digital literacy;

Attending and contributing to volunteer debriefs after each session;

Helping create “learner portraits” to understand their strengths and areas of interest;

Making use of any community languages you may know to help students during the class;

Red Balloon is a dynamic education charity with a number of Learner Centres throughout the UK that support young people who self-exclude from school and are missing education because of bullying or other trauma. They provide both an academic and therapeutic programme to enable their students to get back on track and reconnect with society. I’m Nick, Chair of the Board of Trustees for We The Curious. We are looking for individuals to join us on the board who are passionate about creating a more inclusive, resilient, and sustainable future through science and creative experiences.​

Since the temporary closure of our venue due to fire and water damage, we have been working hard to continue our mission with our 'out and about' activity as well as focussing on reimagining our strategic plan (Plan 2030) and governance.

We are now on the cusp of reopening our iconic Bristol venue, and as we do, you’ll have the opportunity to contribute to our strategy and help us create a place where everyone is included, curious and inspired by science.

What will you do in this role?​

As a trustee you will provide advice, knowledge and support to the leadership team at We The Curious.

With the steer of the Chair, the board of trustees ensures we pursue our purpose responsibly, are compliant with our governing documents, charity law and other relevant legislation. The board will review and advise on best practice and appropriate policies and procedures and uphold excellent governance.

All Trustees should use their specific skills, knowledge or experience to help the Board of Trustees reach informed decisions in the best interest of We The Curious.

This will involve scrutinising Board papers, leading discussion and providing guidance as requested by the Board on new initiatives or other issues relevant to the area of our work in which the trustee has expertise.

Time commitment

​_We hold quarterly board meetings, typically from 4pm to 7pm and one strategy away day per year. Trustees are expected to attend and contribute to all meetings either in person or by joining virtually.

_ Board Meetings are located at the We The Curious offices within the science centre in central Bristol, and once a year at another location around the City.

_ You will also be asked to take part in one of our subcommittee meetings which take place online, at least once per quarter. There are currently sub-committees for Finance & Risk Assurance and Purpose Strategy.

_ You may also be called upon for advice or assistance by the leadership team or to attend occasional events.

Remuneration

​This is a voluntary role. Reasonable travel expenses will be covered. Food is provided at the quarterly Board meetings and strategy away days.

Terms of appointment​

You just need to be at least 18 years old. You don’t need formal qualifications, or previous trustee experience or a science background or have reached any stage in your career. We’ll give you training on good governance and opportunities for mentorship. This opportunity would suit someone who is new to governance or hasn’t been a trustee before.

If you join the board, you will have an induction and onboarding experience to support you with your role and get you connected with the rest of the organisation.

If you are a first-time trustee or want a refresher, we will provide you with training on good governance and other topics related to your role. We will also provide you with mentorship from other members of the board.

Make a difference – become an Academy Governor

You don’t have to be a parent or member of staff to be an academy governor – applications are appreciated from all with an interest in the local community. Academy governors come from all walks of life and specialist knowledge is not always needed. What IS essential is a desire to get involved in children’s education and make a difference to their lives.

We welcome applications from those with educational, health & safety and safeguarding experience, but academy governors are all volunteers and training and support is provided. The University of Chichester (Multi) Academy Trust partners new governors with a ‘buddy’ – a trusted and more experienced colleague on the governing body – who initially acts as their mentor. Briefing information and assistance is also available through newsletters, websites and helplines provided by the local authority and the Department for Education.

Smile for future generation is a community based development organisation which was established in 2023 by Tanzania citizens from mainland, aiming to influence, advocating for ,building capacity for children and their community so as to explore various opportunities in different sectors. The organisation intends to start implementation of the activities to the regions around lake Victoria. 

SMILE FOR FUTURE GENERATION is located in Ilemela district, mwanza city Council in magaka village. 

Education sector is essential in realising country vision of industrialization and economy hence improved quality of life.Despite effort of the government of Tanzania in improving education services by ensuring free education to primary and secondary schools, there marginalised and vulnerable children who are not benefiting fully this opportunity.  OBJECTIVES. 

1.To support children from vulnerable families with school needs such as backpacks,shoes ,school uniforms and pens.

2.To enhance the provision of sanitary pads to the children. 

3.Encourage the participation of the the community in educational services.
