As a welcome desk volunteer, you will be the welcoming face of Magpas Air Ambulance at our exciting new base in Alconbury Weald.
You will greet visitors at the centre, addressing any needs whilst giving exceptional customer service. You will contact relevant staff members when appropriate and signpost people into our visitor centre experience. In between greeting guests, you may be taking enquiries, processing the sale of merchandise, taking and counting donations or assisting us with other essential administration tasks.
As a welcome desk volunteer, you will be expected to:
- Represent Magpas Air Ambulance in a respectful and friendly manner
- Understand the work of Magpas Air Ambulance to secure basic knowledge and enthusiasm for our service
- Wear your Magpas Air Ambulance ID badge while volunteering, ensuring it's visible at all times
- Greet visitors, delivering exceptional customer service assistance and providing an overall welcoming environment
- Address visitor questions and needs both over the phone and face-to-face
- Have good communication skills and be able to work with other volunteers and staff as part of a team
- Have an eye for detail and a flexible attitude
- Have a good understanding of computers (Microsoft Office) or the willingness to learn

- Support various administrative duties
- Follow all Magpas Air Ambulance policies and procedures, including reporting any accidents and incidents

Duties and Responsibilities
Proposal Writing
- Mapping of the Lottery Fund and international funding opportunities and private investors funding.
- Conducting research, analysis and documentation.
- Conceptualisation, visualisation and iterative challenging of new project ideas.
- Design the Lottery Fund and international projects.
- Consortium-building, introduction to relevant consortia, and partners’ recruitment for the Lottery funding applications.
- Writing the Lottery fund project proposals including scientific excellence, societal impact and project implementation, budget, deliverables, and planning.
- Submission of the Lottery Fund project application forms and proposals.
Project Management
- Lead on the successful implementation of the Lottery Fund project deliverables and develop and manage an implementation timetable to ensure delivery of project targets to a high quality and within the contracted timeframe and budget.
- Plan project activities, and supporting project leads to ensure detailed project implementation plans are in place, understood by team members, and effectively implemented as scheduled.
- Track progress against programme objectives, ensuring full completion as per programme work plans.
- Ensure effective systems to monitor and evaluate the quality of project delivery are in place.
- Develop and oversee the implementation of comprehensive and cost-effective project visibility and communication strategies, reaching out to all project stakeholders.

Budget Management

Degree
- Academic background in International or another relevant field with a Bachelor’s or/and preferably a Master’s degree. Those without a degree, but with a vast amount of experience are welcome to apply. We will discuss this with individual candidates.

Starlight is the national charity for children’s play in healthcare. They support children to experience the power of play during treatment, care and recovery from illness in more than 600 healthcare settings across the UK.
Starlight believes that children’s healthcare services should fully reflect the importance of play to their health, wellbeing and resilience and that every child who is an inpatient should have daily play opportunities, appropriate to their condition, supported by dedicated play staff. They aim to enable all children in the UK to have their right to play protected and provided for when they are receiving healthcare – in or out of hospital.
Their recent report shows:
- 71% of Trusts and Health Boards do not have a designated budget for play resources.
- 85% of Trusts and Health Boards have no appropriate guidance or standards for health play.
- An average ratio of only one full-time HPS for 3,986 child admissions to hospital per year and there are 1.8 million hospital admissions for 0-17 year olds each year.
Starlight provides toys, technology, toolkits and training for play professionals to alleviate the immediate trauma that children are experiencing in hospitals across the UK. Using their uniquely curated research and evidence base, they also work towards systemic change in healthcare, galvanising a collaborative effort for the changes that are needed through policy and advocacy work.
About the role.

The new Philanthropy Trustee role has been created to support this growth in a collaborative, relational and strategic way. This new Trustee will support the development of collaborative relationships and partnerships with individuals and organisations to grow income.
