The Position

We are looking for a Grants Officer who can coordinate our grants team and support diverse tasks that include research, ideation and writing of proposals. In this role you’ll be a key contributor to the continued existence of Second Tree, a small, grassroots NGO that is dependent on grants to survive.

To do this successfully, you will employ meticulous time-management and organization skills, as juggling multiple tasks with competing deadlines is common in this role. You’ll also be able to work efficiently independently, managing your own time and tasks; and in a team, overseeing project timelines and ensuring deadlines are met.

You’ll have demonstrable writing experience and the ability to communicate professionally in English. You will also have experience researching and/or writing grants, producing content that is compelling and that will help Second Tree secure new funding streams. Finally, you’ll have an adaptable and flexible attitude, knowing that problem-solving and meeting tight deadlines are inevitable aspects of this role.

The role will include:

• Researching and identifying new grant opportunities on a weekly basis;
• Summarizing relevant grant opportunities and suggest how to best respond and comply with them;
• Researching information and data necessary for grants and grant reporting;
• Managing the organization of proposals and other documents created by the grants team;
• Supporting the development of outlines, timelines, staffing and budgets for grants according to funding guidelines;
• Supporting grants team with proposal writing;
• Creating timelines and coordinating team to ensure deadlines are met;
• Maintaining necessary records, files, reports, databases, and resource materials for Grants team;
• Working with the wider Second Tree team to ensure that all project proposals align with organisational, and program strategies;
• Establishing and maintain connections with funding bodies;
• Performing other duties as assigned;

Skills Required:

• Ability to professionally communicate in English (verbally and in writing);
• Ability to compile and maintain a variety of documents needed for the research, monitoring, development and submission of a proposal;
• Ability to read, comprehend, interpret, summarise and follow proposal guidelines;

Skills Desired:

• Working knowledge of project management techniques such as LFA;
• Ability to facilitate meetings and coordinate the work of teams;
• Knowledge of and experience with grant-giving bodies and other external funding sources (e.g. European Commission);

In order for this to happen, the successful candidate will be encouraged to join us on the ground and immerse themselves in our work. In addition to coordinating the grant team (not a full time position), your participation could take on many forms, from support in the education programs to the delivery of workshops and expeditions with the Youth Scouts – we look forward to hearing your ideas on how best to apply your skills in this context. By coming here, you would gain first-hand experience of the situation on the ground, working in a grassroots organization with a small but dedicated team. This immersion will give you a solid sense of our work, our mission and our approach – which would facilitate your ability to attract supporters.

We have two volunteer houses that can host up to nine people where long-term volunteers are accommodated. Some volunteers choose to rent their own accommodation. In certain periods of the year, demand is extremely high, and the volunteer houses might be full. If you have the means to pay for your own accommodation, please let us know. We would still be happy to host you if space is available. However, in a situation where the volunteer houses are full, this would allow us to offer a volunteering opportunity to someone that cannot afford to pay rent.

St Luke's Hospice have an opportunity for an experienced Trustee with an income generation/finance/business management background to help make a positive contribution to the work we do for patients and families within our local communities. 

What will you be doing?

If you have experience in the private, public or voluntary sectors and the drive to make a difference, we have an opportunity for you to join our Trustee Board to make a positive contribution to the work we do. St Luke’s (Cheshire) Hospice cares for people in mid & south Cheshire who are suffering from life limiting illnesses. We offer specialist treatment, care, advice and support to patients and their families.

We undertake an annual audit of the skill mix of our Trustees to find the right blend of experience and expertise to support the work of the Hospice through their support for the Senior Management Team. We look for Trustees who have the dedication, commitment and desire to improve our services and help us to achieve our strategic goals in line with our ethos and values.

We would be happy to receive applications from someone, whose responsibility as a Trustee will be to overview all Income Generation at St Luke’s.  This role will include being a Director of the Promotion and Trading companies which look after the hospice lottery and our retail shops. Someone with experience of managing income generation, working collaboratively and with business management and finance (including P&L) knowledge would be desirable for this position.

Trustee positions are un-remunerated although reasonable out of pocket expenses will be paid. This role offers a person the chance to make a valid contribution to a respected community organisation, is a great opportunity for professional development, exposure at Board level and the chance to support the development of local services.

Appointment to the Trustee Board will be subject to standard checks, including satisfactory references and DBS check

Each year the Hospice undertakes a skills mix audit to identify the key skills required to support the SMT in the day to day running of the Hospice.

The most recent audit has identified the following skills as essential to support the SMT and create a balanced trustee board able to make knowledgeable and effective decisions:

• Experience in managing income generation.

• Experience in working collaboratively.

• Experience of Business Management.

• Experience of Finance including P&L.

This is a vital role within the Hospice and will contribute to ensuring patients and families within the community receive safe, well-led compassionate care. It will also be a key role in ensuring good financial governance alongside supporting our strategic goals, particularly in relation to the generation of income for the Hospice.

SANE is looking for an Administration Volunteer to help with sending out fundraising event materials, franking, updating stationary and supporting the team.  You will be part of the Fundraising & Marketing team a professional team that manages the full spectrum of fundraising, marketing, website and social media activities.  This is a key role helping the team to work efficiently to raise awareness and much needed income to keep the charity running helping tens of thousands of people per year.

There are opportunities to develop your administration and organisation skills as well as learn how a charity.

Volunteer Supporter Care Admin Assistants are required to help with telephone calls to say thank you to donators, sending letters, scanning and uploading files so knowledge of IT would be helpful.

In this role, you will work with our talented team made up of the Handcrafted project manager and other multi-skilled volunteers to create beautiful, high quality items for our Handcrafted by Tŷ Hafan Etsy shop.

By doing this, you will help us raise funds to support children with life-shortening conditions and their families.

The funds you help us raise will go towards providing care and support for the whole family. This includes therapy treatments for children, respite care for families, and activities and experiences for siblings.

Considerations:

Age requirement: 18+

Location: At our Head Office in Sully, Vale of Glamorgan

Time commitment: Flexible - Mondays, Wednesdays or Fridays between 09.30 and 5pm

•  Are interested in running Handcrafted pop-up shops at events in the local community (optional).

We are looking for reliable and enthusiastic volunteers to be part of our Hub Team. Working in the main hospital atrium you will be the first friendly face people see when they come in to speak to the Charity or to browse our merchandise.

The role will involve chatting to people about the Charity, providing information, handling cash and card transactions and keeping the hub clean and tidy.

This is a regular weekly opportunity working a 2-3 hours shift between 9am-5pm Wednesday to Friday. Suggested shifts:

• Weds: 9-11am, 11am-1pm, 1pm-4pm
• Thurs: 9-11am, 11am-1pm, 1pm-4pm
• Fri: 9-11am, 11am-1pm, 1pm-4pm

We are particularly keen to find for someone who could volunteer from 1-3pm on a Tuesday or between 11am-2pm on a Wednesday, but any regular time you can give would be very much appreciated and these shifts are flexible.

We are looking for someone who could ideally commit to at least 6 months.

All volunteers have to go through the UHB Trust volunteering registration which includes a DBS check. All training will be provided by your Volunteer Coordinator.

Volunteering is a fantastic way to build your confidence, pick up new, transferable skills and meet like-minded people.

As an Administration Volunteer, you will support the Fundraising Team with vital administration tasks.

• Researching and making contact with potential supporters in the community.

A bit about this role

As a charity we are able to help thousands of cats each year thanks to the generous donations we receive from members of the public. Our fundraising team leaders have the exciting and varied role of inspiring our fundraising volunteers to plan and deliver local fundraising events. Using their passion and imagination, they oversee a small team of fundraising volunteers who come together to raise the vital funds needed to cover costs such as veterinary bills and food. Our fundraising team leaders support their team of volunteers in all aspects of their roles, making sure our volunteers are happy, confident and supported.
