Fundraising Volunteer Roles

It’s fantastic that you’d like to find out more about volunteering at St Mungo’s. We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers to join us at one of our cheer points at the Hackney Half Marathon on Sunday 19 May 2024! We’re National Charity Partners for the race and have a team of 100 amazing runners taking part on the day.

We’re looking for cheer point volunteers who are able to give a few hours of their time on the morning of the race, to help us cheer on our team of runners and show them how much we appreciate all the hard work that has gone into their fundraising and training. Your role will be to make as much noise as possible and give our runners a huge cheer as they pass by!

• London Fields – Mile 8.5 (please find more information in the role description). We’d ideally like you to join us between 10.00am-12.00pm on the day, but any time you could spare would be much appreciated!

Do I need to have any specific skills? •

• Ability to interact positively with supporters and runners.
• Good verbal communication skills with a friendly manner.
• An Enthusiastic attitude and able to cheer on our runners.
• Genuine interest in and commitment to St Mungo’s work and client group.
•  An understanding of and commitment to diversity & equality.

On Sunday 12th May, The Passage will be having our first ever Walk to End Homelessness in Battersea Park. There will be three different distances around the park to choose from, 2.5km, 5km, or 10km, all of which are wheelchair and pushchair accessible. Our event village around the Battersea Bandstand will open at 11am, with entertainment and refreshments, and the walk will begin at 12pm.

About this role 

As a route marshal for our Walk to End Homelessness, you will be helping ensure the safety and smooth flow of the event. You will be positioned along one of the three routes in Battersea Park to guide our walkers, provide directions, and offer assistance or support if needed. You may also need to communicate with the Volunteer Manager to report any issues that might arise during the walk. Overall, your responsibility will be to ensure that our participants have an enjoyable and safe experience during the Walk to End Homelessness, collectively supporting those facing or at risk of homelessness in London as a community. 

 You will be one of 8 Route Marshalls and be supervised by the Volunteer Manager.

 Main Duties:

• Guiding walkers along the designated routes in Battersea Park
• Providing directions and answering questions from walkers
• Reporting any issues to the Volunteer Manager
• Offering support and encouragement to walkers
• Maintaining a positive and friendly attitude throughout the event

 Desired Qualities:

• Aged 18 or over
• Great punctuality
• Good communication with the walkers and other volunteers
• Comfortable standing for extended periods
• An inclusive and non-judgmental attitude

Volunteers are essential to The Passage and our success. Our team of volunteers add tremendous value to our services. 

Your travel expenses will be reimbursed and you will receive a free lunch and a complimentary t-shirt to wear during the event.

Trustee Role

 The Developers Club Foundation is seeking dedicated individuals to join our existing Board of Trustees, which consists of 6 individuals. As a not-for-profit organisation, we are committed to supporting the housing and professional development of young adults at risk of long-term youth homelessness. We believe that providing quality accommodation and mentorship can be life-changing for generations to come.

 Role Description:

As a Trustee, you will play a vital role in guiding the strategic direction of The Developers Club Foundation. You will be responsible for ensuring the effective governance and financial stability of the organisation, as well as overseeing the implementation of our charitable initiatives.

 Key Responsibilities:

- Attend fortnightly board meetings and contribute actively to discussions during the setup phase. Meetings will transition to quarterly once the setup phase is complete.

- Provide guidance and oversight on the organisation's strategic direction.

- Review and approve budgets, financial reports, and fundraising plans.

- Support the fundraising efforts of the organisation.

- Act as an ambassador for the organisation and promote its mission and values.

Skills and Experience:

We are looking for individuals with a passion for social impact and a commitment to our cause. Ideal candidates will have expertise in one or more of the following areas:

- Housing or homelessness support

- Fundraising and financial management

- Legal or governance

- Marketing and communications

- Youth development

‘Fight For Home’ Group Member - Norfolk

Role summary

Are you keen to use your creative energy or organisational skills to bring your community together to fight for home? We’re looking for enthusiastic people to join and shape local ‘Fight For Home’ Groups. With a team of other local volunteers, you’ll generate ideas, plan and deliver fundraising events and raise awareness of the housing emergency within your community.

• Suggested involvement: Varied, at least once a month
• Availability: This is a flexible opportunity, with meetings and events likely to take place in evenings and weekends
• Location: Norfolk
• Supervised by: Regional Community Fundraiser

You’ll meet and volunteer with other local people who believe that home is everything and want to be part of our movement for change.  You’ll be joining our passionate, fun Community Fundraising team as well as our wider community of 2,500 volunteers who fight for home in our shops and frontline services!  We have committed to combat racism both within and outside of Shelter and welcome you on our journey to becoming a truly anti-racist organisation.

Main tasks

This is a flexible and diverse role. Here are some of the activities you might get involved in:

• Support with planned Shelter activity including fundraising in your community
• Generating fundraising ideas with the group
• Organising and hosting your own fundraising events
• Inspiring your network of contacts to support the fight for home
• Attending local events, such as Rotary meetings or community fairs, to raise awareness of Shelter and collecting donations
• Speaking about what we do and promoting national campaigns in your community
• Raising awareness of our local Community Hubs

We’re looking for volunteers with a range of skills to form our Fight For Home Groups. You might have some but not all of these skills – we’d still love to hear from you!

Our Champions also promote our local Shelter services and our campaigning work to tackle the root causes of the housing emergency.

We hope you’ll be able to bring your own ideas and connections to the role, as well as gain experience in supporting the work of Shelter.

• Signpost people to our local Community Hub if they are experiencing bad housing or homelessness
• Support our campaigns to tackle the root cause of the housing emergency by encouraging people to sign petitions and spreading the word in your community

To enable you to take part in this opportunity, Shelter will:

• Provide you with a volunteer handbook containing all relevant policies and procedures
• Provide e-learning including Equality & Diversity, Health & Safety, Data Protection, Environmental Awareness and Safeguarding
• Provide an induction and training to support you to do your role
