The mission of Colchester Foodbank is to “prevent or relieve poverty in Colchester and the surrounding area, in particular but not exclusively by providing emergency food supplies”.
Over the last few years the food bank has grown substantially in response to rising demand, and last year provided 20,000 food parcels to adults and children through 11 satellites in and around Colchester. In addition, it signposts clients to specialist agencies who may be able to help with specific problems.
Colchester Foodbank is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation and a franchise of the Trussell Trust, a community of food banks that share best practice and expertise, and campaigns nationally for policies to address the underlying causes of food poverty. Colchester Foodbank actively drives those campaigns locally.
As a Trustee you will play a vital role by ensuring that we are meeting the demand for our services, providing help and support to people in crisis in the local community as well as providing strategic direction for the charity.
Key tasks
We are looking for additional trustees with the strategic skills to help guide the Foodbank, with a passion and commitment to the delivery of the foodbank’s mission, and to ending food poverty in the UK.
We would welcome applicants with experience in one (or more) of the following areas:
- Charity/Third Governance
- Strategy development
- Property management and acquisition

Trustees may also undertake additional work for the charity between meetings subject to their availability and skill set. This may include for example attending meetings, training etc.
About you
Potential trustees must be ready to accept collective responsibility for ensuring that the foodbank acts in conformity with its purpose and with charity legislation, and that good governance, best practice policies and rigorous financial supervision are in place. They will be experienced in working collaboratively, with other trustees and with the staff and volunteers of the foodbank, and in providing support and challenge to the co-directors.
We would welcome applications from current volunteers and partner agencies, but are also keen to hear from any candidate who wants to help their local community in working towards the eradication of food poverty whilst also currently providing food to people who find themselves in food crisis situations. We are looking for a balance between those who know us already and those who will bring fresh thinking.

Citizens Advice Runnymede & Spelthorne (CARS) provides valuable advice to over 6,000 people a year, helping them with issues such as housing, debt, benefits, employment and family. NIDAS supports women and families with all aspects of domestic abuse with confidential support and a variety of bespoke services. Role Description
The role of the Chair of Trustees is to give leadership to the board and to make sure the board fulfils its duties and responsibilities. Additionally, the Chair of Trustees works closely with the CEO to support her/him to achieve the aims of NIDAS, and, at times, represent NIDAS at functions, meetings and in the press, and broadcasting media.
Level of Commitment
- Six-weekly board meetings

Duties
In addition to the responsibilities of a trustee, the Chair of Trustees' duties are to:
- Provide leadership to the organisation and the board by ensuring that everyone remains focused on the delivery of its charitable purposes in order to deliver the greatest public benefit.
- To ensure that the Annual Reports and accounts are produced at the end of each year for presentation to the Annual General Meeting and to ensure that they are forwarded to the Charity Commission within the appropriate time period.
- Chair and facilitate board meetings and the Annual General Meeting encouraging full participation by all attending.
- Establish sub-committees and working groups to address specific issues/tasks as deemed appropriate by the board, and to call upon specialist skills of his/her fellow Officers and Trustees in relation to those groups, and to participate in such groups as appropriate.
- Give direction to board policy making.
- Check that decisions taken at meetings are implemented.
- Represent the organisation at functions and meetings and act as a spokesperson when appropriate.
- Bring impartiality and objectivity to decision making.
- Liaise with the CEO to keep an overview of the organisation’s affairs.
- Lead the process of supporting and appraising the performance of the CEO.
- Sit on senior appointment, and disciplinary panels.
The Chair of Trustees will also work with the CEO to:
- Plan and set the agenda for the Annual General meeting with the Secretary.
- Plan the annual cycle of board meetings and agendas for each meeting with the Secretary.
- Develop the board of trustees including induction, training, appraisal and succession planning.
- Address conflict within the board and within the organisation, and liaise with the CEO to achieve this.

TRC Sexual Abuse and Rape Support Greater Manchester are recruiting for Helpline, Live
Chat and Email Volunteers. We would like to encourage women of all backgrounds and
experience to apply. All we look for is a willingness/desire to embrace a feminist, traumainformed
way of working, and a commitment to supporting women and girls affected by
rape and sexual violence. We provide an in-depth volunteer training programme about
sexual violence and TRC, in order to fully equip our volunteers.
We ask for a minimum commitment from trained volunteers to participate in your chosen
working groups for at least a year. In return, you will receive on-going support in your role,
access to internal and external training and a chance to really make a difference to the lives
of vulnerable women and girls. You will also have the opportunity to meet new people and
work alongside amazing, like-minded women.
Please note all volunteering opportunities are in-person and we do not offer any remote
volunteering. Our centre is based at a secure location in Trafford, Greater Manchester.
Volunteers have the choice of fulfilling either or both of the below roles.
Volunteering on TRC’s helpline, providing emotional support and independent information
to women who have experienced any form of rape and sexual abuse, at any time in their
lives. We have a range of calls to this service, where the main priority is listening, believing
and supporting each caller by letting them take the lead in the call. Sometimes we offer
callers practical support and information and at other times, we are a listening ear. You will
be expected to fulfil a helpline shift (3 hours), once every 2 weeks.
Volunteering on TRC’s Live Chat service, much like the helpline, involves providing
emotional support and independent information to women who have experienced any form
of rape and sexual abuse, at any time in their lives. However, we do this through online web
chat. As part of this role, live chat volunteers are also expected to help with responding to
emails on our email support service, where women can access emotional support and information.

What is a Serving Community Team Fundraising Coordinator?
There is a SSAFA presence throughout the serving community, both in the UK and overseas. In many areas SSAFA have Serving Community Teams that offer financial, practical, and emotional support to serving personnel and their families. Each team is formed of a group of dedicated volunteers who make this possible.
Fundraising Coordinators are essential members of the Serving Community Team. They lead the development and delivery of a local fundraising plan. With the help of Fundraising Volunteers, this could include coordinating events, appeals, local grants or collections.

What will you be doing?
Although every SSAFA Serving Community Team has different needs, below are the main activities of a Fundraising Coordinator:
- Planning and strategy: Leading the development of a local fundraising plan with support from the wider team, including the Engagement and Events Coordinator.
- Growing a team: Together with the Serving Community Team Volunteering Co-ordinator and SSAFA’s Regional Fundraising Manager, recruiting and supporting a group of fundraising volunteers to help deliver your fundraising ideas.
- Marketing: With help from SSAFA’s Marketing and Communications team creating eye-catching fundraising materials to support the annual fundraising plan.
- Reporting: Tracking and reporting on the success of fundraising activities and providing an annual report to SSAFA Central Office.

Could you help to raise vital funds for SSAFA in your local area? You don’t need a military background, just the ability to get on with all kinds of people and some occasional free time.
What is a Branch Fundraiser?
As part of a local team, our fundraisers represent SSAFA at events, and in public. The role includes helping at fayres, street collections, concerts, quizzes, raffles, sporting events etc.
Why do we need you?
We’ve been supporting the Armed Forces community since 1885. Our clients come from all backgrounds and age groups and may have served in WW2 or in a more recent conflict like the Falklands or Afghanistan.
There are SSAFA branches throughout the UK and overseas who support local volunteers to deliver services to veterans, serving personnel and their families. Some branches are divided into smaller divisions to ensure the best local service delivery. Each branch has a team of volunteer caseworkers, support volunteers, executive roles, and fundraisers.
SSAFA branches rely on regular charitable income to fund all the necessities behind our support for clients. This includes volunteer travel expenses, phone bills, publicity, and grants for clients in urgent need. A varied programme of fundraising also keeps the SSAFA profile high in the local community, so everyone knows who we are and how we can help.
When would you be needed and where would you be based?
This role involves being out and about at public events and would suit someone looking to give the occasional day, half day or evening to support SSAFA; when and where would be flexible to suit you.
What would you be doing?
- Be part of a team with collection/buckets tins at events, supermarkets, shopping centres, etc.
- Acting as a marshal at a public event e.g., handing out water to runners, supervising parking etc.
- Being part of a team running a stall at an event, Armed Forces Day, fayre, county show etc.
- Helping with putting up posters, building gazebos, serving refreshments, packing/unpacking cars etc.
- Being a positive ambassador for SSAFA, engaging people of all backgrounds and interests
- Volunteering within the standards and values of SSAFA including observing our policies such as the Volunteering policy and data protection policy (these will be covered in your training and local induction.)
The remit of this role may change over the next 12-18 months depending on the outcome of a trial currently being undertaken.

When would you be needed and where would you be based?
As part of your local branch, you might have access to an office, but many volunteers are based at home. You would also be out and about at events and meetings. This role would suit someone looking to give a regular time commitment to SSAFA although when and where would be flexible to suit you.
What would you be doing?
- Developing an ethical fundraising plan based on the needs of the branch and choosing a mix of sources.
- Working with the branch secretary and Regional Fundraising Manager, recruit a team of fundraising volunteers to support events, appeals and collections.
- Working with the Regional Fundraising Manager, support national fundraising campaigns.
- Working with the Branch Publicity Officer, develop opportunities to combine awareness and fundraising.
- Planning and running local appeals, collections, and events
- Identifying and submitting applications to appropriate trusts and grant funding organisations
- Working with Marketing staff at central office check that all fundraising materials meet SSAFA branding style and current key messages.
- Liaise with Regional Fundraising Manager when pursuing opportunities beyond local sources e.g., corporates.
- Evaluate fundraising activities and provide reports and information for the branch.
- Being a positive ambassador for SSAFA including all sections of the community in awareness raising
- Volunteering within the standards and values of SSAFA including observing our policies such as the Volunteering policy and data protection policy (these will be covered in your training and local induction.)
The remit of this role may change over the next 12-18 months depending on the outcome of a trial currently being undertaken.

- Volunteers will be covered by SSAFAs Public Liability Insurance whilst carrying out the role.
What are we looking for?
- Friendly and approachable people with good communication skills including written and spoken English.
- Confident to deal with the public, potential clients, volunteers, other agencies and SSAFA colleagues – face-to-face, by phone, email or via social media.
- Experience of running events and or submitting funding applications would be welcome but not essential.
- Ability to send and receive emails – you will receive your own SSAFA email address.
- Ability to make enquires about fundraising opportunities by phone, email, letter or by filling in forms
- Reliable attitude, keep appointments, update the branch regarding your availability.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and keep information safely.
- Access to public transport or a car to get to meetings and events.

Responsibilities
Trustees are responsible for governance, strategic oversight and ambassadorship on behalf of Hatch, a charitable organisation. Trustees take overall stewardship and responsibility for the well-being of Hatch, providing strategic direction and ensuring that Hatch operates effectively to deliver its vision and mission.
Trustees act to uphold the core ethos and values of the organisation, fulfilling a duty of care in accordance with its governing documents, charity law and regulatory requirements.
Key Trustee Duties

Contributing actively in providing strategic direction to Hatch; agreeing overall policy, setting targets, and evaluating performance against agreed targets and in line with Hatch mission and values

Ensuring that Hatch complies with its Articles of Association, charity law, company law and any other relevant legislation or regulations

Ensuring Hatch applies its resources responsibly and exclusively in pursuance of its mission and its objects as defined in its Articles of Association

Safeguarding the assets, staff and beneficiaries of the charity by ensuring risks are managed and mitigated, as appropriate

Ensuring the financial stability of Hatch including ensuring appropriate controls and procedures are implemented and followed

Ensuring that Hatch is accountable to its founders, funders and other stakeholders and that the Hatch team and volunteers are responsible to the Board

Time Commitment

Four formal Board meetings per year held in Central/South, London (or online) (2 hours per meeting), plus time to review the Board pack sent one week in advance of each Board meeting

Up to four additional meetings per year of trustees and staff members to develop strategy, ideas etc

Additional Training and Development sessions are offered to all trustees around effective trusteeship, impact measurement, finance management and more (via external providers)

Ad hoc engagement and support to the CEO, other staff and board members

Engagement with Hatch staff, programmes and founders as relevant

Attendance at Hatch’s fundraising events and ad hoc fundraising meetings as relevant

Hatch Trustees are appointed to serve for a term of 3 years and are be able to stand for re-election for a further 2 terms (maximum service 9 years)

Prospective trustees start as Board Observers with Hatch, enabling you and the team to assess if we’re a good fit. Being a Board Observer comes with most of the same responsibilities and commitments as a full trusteeship does. We would expect prospective trustees to be Board Observers with Hatch for 3 - 6 months (1 - 2 board meetings and engagement opportunities) before being asked to become a full trustee where this is mutually desirable

We believe there is a big opportunity to work with more trusts & foundations and individual philanthropists on a strategic level as well as work with local or central government. We’d welcome people who have an understanding of the world of Philanthropy, Trusts & Foundations and might even be involved in running one or working in one.

The Plateful Café works to relieve poverty and isolation amongst refugees, asylum seekers and ethnic minorities in Lewisham. As a small charity, a modest sum of money raised can enable our projects to take place. As such, the role of volunteer fundraiser is essential.
