Job description

The Good Faith Foundation’s (GFF) mission is to promote social inclusion for the public benefit by preventing people from becoming socially excluded, relieving the needs of those people who are socially excluded and assisting them to integrate into society.

The Story so far 

GFF was set up by the Good Faith Partnership LLP (GFP) as an independent organisation. GFP and GFF share a commitment to cross-sector working for the common good. GFP found its capacity to pursue particular projects limited as a result of it being a company. GFF was set up in order to meet the need for a charitable organisation committed to incubating and delivering cross-sector initiatives. GFF received charitable status in early 2020. We are seeking to fill two roles on the board: chair and treasurer. 

Objectives

The Chair will provide inclusive leadership to the Board of Trustees, ensuring that each trustee fulfils their duties and responsibilities for the effective governance of the charity. The Chair will also support the officer and bookkeeper to ensure that the charity functions as a unit and works closely to achieve agreed objectives.

Responsibilities as a Trustee

 

  • Ensure that GFF complies with its governing document (its Articles of Association), safeguarding best practice, charity law, company law, and any other relevant legislation or regulations

  • Ensure that GFF pursues its objects as defined in its governing document

  • Ensure that GFF applies its resources exclusively in pursuance of its objects, i.e., it must not spend money on activities which are not included in the objects, however worthwhile they may be

  • Contribute actively to the board of trustees' role in giving firm strategic direction to GFF, setting overall policy, defining goals and setting targets and evaluating performance against agreed targets

  • Safeguard the good faith name and values of GFF 

  • Ensure the financial stability of the foundation

  • Protect and manage the property of GFF and to ensure that proper investment of GFF’s funds

Responsibilities of Chair

  • Ensuring good governance 

  • Leading the trustees in vision-setting: coordinating with GFP to identify shared vision while retaining distinct GFF objectives.

  • Refining and updating processes, in particular the GFP and GFF relationship

  • Capturing Learning from the Foundation’s activities

  • Work with officers to prepare board papers

  • Chairing meetings 

  • Regular meetings with officers

  • Review and sign grant agreements 

Personal Qualities 

  • Exhibit strong interpersonal and relationship building abilities and be comfortable in an ambassadorial role 

  • Demonstrate tact and diplomacy, with the ability to listen and engage effectively 

  • Strong networking capabilities that can be utilised for the benefit of the charity 

  • Ability to foster and promote a collaborative working environment  

  • Ability to commit time to conduct the role well, including travel and attending events out of office hours 

  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of different world views and an ability to work collaboratively across difference

Experience  

  • Experience of operating at a senior strategic leadership level 

  • Experience of charity governance and working with or as part of a Board of Trustees  

  • Experience of external representation, delivering presentations and managing stakeholders

  • Significant experience of chairing meetings and events 

Knowledge and skills  

  • Good understanding of charity governance issues

  • Knowledge and understanding of the Civil Society sector and current issues affecting it

  • Strong leadership skills, ability to motivate and bring people together

  • Financial management expertise and a broad understanding of charity finance issues
