The Gold Standards Framework (GSF) charity are seeking new Trustees to join our Board to support the important work of enabling generalist frontline teams improve care for people nearing the end of life. We are seeking in particular, new Trustees who have business development, finance, charity or fundraising expertise or experience, who might be interested in this area, as well as others interested in social care, education or palliative or end of life care.
The Gold Standards Framework (GSF) Centre recently celebrated 25 years of work improving end of life care given by generalist frontline teams. GSF is the leading provider of training in end of life care for generalist front line staff across health and social care. We have trained and accredited thousands of teams, influenced national policy and practice and GSF has improved the care for many millions of people and their families.
Much has been achieved but there is still more to do ... We have a bold and exciting vision to ensure that everyone experiences Gold Standard end of life care. We want to see a big increase in the number of people that are trained, and we want to influence policy to make Gold Standard end of life care a requirement. We have recently become a CIO charity and as we enter a new chapter of our story, we are seeking new trustees to help us to achieve our vision and contribute to our strategic purpose.
Could you help us achieve these goals? We are a small team and value the contribution of our trustees, partners, associates and professional reference groups. Trustees will typically attend 4-6 online board meetings a year, along with other communications and support between meetings, plus occasional strategy away days.

For over seventy years the Osteopathic Foundation (initially the Osteopathic Education Foundation) has been supporting osteopathic education, research, and development. We fund research and education activities through our grant-giving programmes. Since 2000, we have distributed over £1 million of support to advance osteopathic practice for public benefit.
We are seeking new Board members to sit on the Board of the Osteopathic Foundation. The Board meets quarterly online/in person to approve grants, monitor investment performance and report on activities. Please see the attached role specification for full details of the responsibilities.
We are looking for potential Board members with broad experience and a practical attitude. A proven track record in one or more of the following would also be helpful, especially in relation to charities: finances, business acumen, legal management, and/or fundraising. Osteopathic or medical experience is not a prerequisite for this role, but curiosity and self-awareness are.

Who we are.
Starlight is the national charity for children’s play in healthcare. They support children to experience the power of play during treatment, care and recovery from illness in more than 600 healthcare settings across the UK.
Starlight believes that children’s healthcare services should fully reflect the importance of play to their health, wellbeing and resilience and that every child who is an inpatient should have daily play opportunities, appropriate to their condition, supported by dedicated play staff. They aim to enable all children in the UK to have their right to play protected and provided for when they are receiving healthcare – in or out of hospital.
Their recent report shows:
- 71% of Trusts and Health Boards do not have a designated budget for play resources.
- 85% of Trusts and Health Boards have no appropriate guidance or standards for health play.
- An average ratio of only one full-time HPS for 3,986 child admissions to hospital per year and there are 1.8 million hospital admissions for 0-17 year olds each year.
Starlight provides toys, technology, toolkits and training for play professionals to alleviate the immediate trauma that children are experiencing in hospitals across the UK. Using their uniquely curated research and evidence base, they also work towards systemic change in healthcare, galvanising a collaborative effort for the changes that are needed through policy and advocacy work.
About the role.
Starlight’s income needs to grow in pace with demand for its vital role as Champion and Protector of Play. The new Philanthropy Trustee role has been created to support this growth in a collaborative, relational and strategic way. This new Trustee will support the development of collaborative relationships and partnerships with individuals and organisations to grow income. They will bring a passion for Starlight’s work, ideas, introductions and opportunities as well as a contemporary and values-led mindset. They will work with the CEO and Director of Fundraising and Marketing to generate high-value philanthropic support in an enlightened and empowering way.

As our current Chair must step down at the end of 2024, we are seeking a Chair elect to join the board no later than the end of the first quarter of 2024. As the Chair of My Death, My Decision, you will play a pivotal role in leading our organisation to further our campaign goals. We are seeking an individual who is passionate about the cause either from personal experience or from professional engagement with those making end of life choices.
You will be a seasoned leader with a proven track record of strategic thinking and decision-making, whether in the context of a campaign, a charity or a not-for-profit company. Your leadership should inspire and guide our team towards achieving our mission, making a tangible impact.

Key Responsibilities
- Governance: Oversee the governance of My Death, My Decision, including chairing board meetings and member meetings, ensuring effective decision-making processes and working closely with the Director of Finance.
- Leadership and Coordination: Provide strong leadership by chairing events, onboarding new board members, and coordinating our membership at the ‘World Federation of Right to Die Societies’.
- Spokesperson: Act as the primary spokesperson for My Death, My Decision, responding to media requests and inquiries, demonstrating in-depth knowledge of the campaign and its objectives.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Serve as a key point of contact with our patrons, benefactors, and key supporters, nurturing relationships and promoting our mission.
- Miscellaneous: This role will require the successful candidate to ensure the smooth running of the organisation, both internally and in its external presentation. This will include occasional tasks outside of the realm of the job description.
We are looking for a board member willing to bring energy, enthusiasm and commitment to the role.
You will be a good fit for this role if you have:
- Commitment & Enthusiasm: A strong passion for changing the law on assisted dying and a commitment to our campaign goal. The ability to inspire and engage others.
- Knowledge on assisted dying: As the role of chair will require much external engagement with relevant stakeholders and the media, in-depth understanding of the subject matter is essential. We are however willing to consider candidates who have a broad understanding but need time to become familiar with the details of the campaign during the Chair elect transition referred to above.
- Strategic Thinking: Strong strategic thinking skills to develop and execute a campaign strategy in collaboration with other board members and small team of MDMD staff.
- Governance skills: Previous experience around not for profit governance.
- Communication skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to act as a spokesperson for the organisation, in particular towards bodies such as the Houses of Parliament, medical associations, the media etc.

We’re looking for someone with experience of working as a chairperson to join us as our Chair of Trustees, to help provide excellent leadership and ensure that everyone remains focused on the delivery of the organisation’s charitable purposes.
About YBTC:
Yorkshire’s Brain Tumour Charity began in 2003. It was originally named ‘Andrea’s Gift’, set-up in memory of Andrea Key, who died from a brain tumour aged 42. Our vision is to cure a devastating disease that affects so many people, of all ages and background. Whilst we’re working to find a cure, we provide the best patient and family support network we can. We fund dedicated research projects across Yorkshire into treating and curing child and adult brain tumours to try to change those statistics for the better. At the same time, we support patients, carers and their loved ones who are impacted by this devastating disease now through our specialist support services.
Yorkshire’s Brain Tumour is currently unincorporated. We are currently undergoing the process of moving the charity structure to a CIO, which will provide limited liability for Trustees to third parties. This process will take approximately 6 months to complete, and our current reserves policy is to cover 6 months of expenditure.

The Hospice of St Francis was established 45 years ago in 1979 to provide free specialist care for patients, their families, and carers in Hertfordshire and Berkhamsted.
The Hospice is a highly respected and critically important community charity providing exceptional and essential services to its local communities. The importance of this care is reflected in the work of its staff and volunteers, and the support of loyal donors, fundraisers, and customers.
The work of the Hospice is mainly funded by donations, income from retail activities, legacies, grants, and interest on investments. NHS Grants for Hospice Care contribute 19% to total income. At year-end 31st March 2023, total income was £7.45 million. They employ 150 staff and have over 1,000 volunteers supporting their work.
About the roles.
To continue to provide care and support to patients, families, and carers, to meet the increasing complexity of conditions, need for services, and to deliver new and enhanced complementary supporting services, the Hospice of St Francis needs to think differently to consider where funding comes from.
The Hospice seeks a Chair and Deputy Chair who will continue the excellent work of the charity but also help to achieve their ambition to double the reach of their care and to assure the Hospice is funded sustainably now and for the future.
- Chair of the Board
The Chair is an ambassador and public face of the Hospice in partnership with the Chief Executive. Holding the Board and Chief Executive to account for the Charity’s mission and vision, the Chair will provide inclusive leadership to the Board of Trustees ensuring effective governance of the Charity.
- Deputy Chair of the Board
The Deputy Chair will provide support to the Chair of the Board in leadership and stewardship of the Charity. They will be a sounding board for the Chair and have a key responsibility to build constructive and collegiate relationships with the Chief Executive and the executive team. The role may include additional responsibilities such as Freedom to Speak Up Ambassador, to provide clear and transparent governance.
This is a supportive role working with Committee Chairs and the Trading Company Board to support the development of the charity strategy and in working with the People Governance Committee on succession planning and Trustee recruitment. It may also include undertaking assignments at the request of the Chair.
The Deputy is expected to support the Chair with performance reviews of Trustees to review their contribution to the Board and Committees. The Deputy with Committee Chairs will agree on the appropriate appraisal of the Chair.
The role also includes chairing meetings in the absence of the Chair of the Board and acting as an ambassador for the Hospice, promoting activities and engaging with Key Stakeholders on behalf of the Chair and Chief Executive if required.
Time Commitment
The time commitment for the Chair is anticipated to be around 2 -3 days per month based on time to review, prepare and chair four full board meetings, two away days and the AGM, regular meetings with the Chief Executive and Trustees, ad hoc projects and discussions with Stakeholders and potential partners and funders, visiting hospice and retail sites and attend events.
The Deputy Chair is likely to give up to 2 days per month based on attending four full board meetings, two away days and the AGM, ad hoc projects, visiting hospice and retail sites, attending events and serving as a member of up to two Committees.

Cure Parkinson’s is a UK registered medical research charity that supports research internationally focused on disease modification in Parkinson’s. Preclinically, our funding remit is centred around Parkinson’s research that is of a disease modifying nature and within 5 years of clinical testing in people with Parkinson’s. Cure Parkinson’s also funds clinical research, particularly trials and sub studies of clinical trials evaluating disease modification in Parkinson’s. Cure Parkinson’s is a member of the Association of Medical Research Charities (AMRC) and as such we adhere to the principles and guidelines on research management set out by the organisation.
The Cure Parkinson’s Research Committee (RC) is responsible for reviewing research proposals that are submitted on a quarterly basis. The RC is a committee of 10-12 academics and people with Parkinson’s who voluntarily meet four times per year to evaluate approximately 10 grant applications per round. If an application is considered to be within the funding remit and of interest to the RC, they will be sent out for expert peer review. The feedback from those peer reviews will be used by the RC at the next RC meeting (~3 months later) to decide whether to recommend funding the project to the Cure Parkinson’s Trustees.
The main purpose of the RC Chair is to provide leadership to, and oversee management of the RC.
The Cure Parkinson’s research team provides support to the Chair by organising the RC meetings and managing the grant application process (including organisation of the expert peer reviewers).

About Care for Veterans
Care for Veterans (CfV) was established in 1919 as the Queen Alexandra Hospital Home to care for soldiers returning from World War I with life-changing disabilities. For over 100 years, it has provided long term nursing, rehabilitation, respite and end of life care to Veterans and their families. The 62-bed home has been at Gifford House in Worthing since 1933.
CfV are seeking to recruit a Trustee with charity fundraising /marketing experience acquired at executive or board level.
What will you be doing?
ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES
· Contributing at four board meetings, a strategy offsite and four sub-committee meetings a year. These are usually held during business hours in Worthing.
· Develop a good understanding of CfV’s operations and the environment in which it operates;
· Monitor the performance of CfV in a constructive and inquisitive way;
· Making their time, skills, and experience available to CfV and its executive (in and outside of regular board meetings) and supporting key fundraising events;
· Average time commitment is 12-15 days per year.
What are we looking for?
· You will have a background in fundraising and/or marketing (executive or trustee) at a charity with significant fundraising activities. You will have strong commitment to the improving the lives of veterans and the work of CfV.
· Previous trustee experience is not necessary as new trustees will be given support and training.
· Due to the work of the charity a DBS check and references will be required.

Having recently appointed our Chief Executive, Nigel Seymour, it is an exciting time of change and development for the Hospice. With our current Chair, Sean Hilton, retiring later this year, we are now seeking a Chair to build on our legacy and achievements to date and bring the values and vision to lead us into the next chapter.
Who we are looking for.
We are seeking an exceptional people leader, skilled in developing collaborative, values-driven boards and cultures. Our new Chair will be respectful of our successful history, whilst bringing constructive challenge, fresh ideas and creative thinking. They will be compassionate, collaborative and visionary, able to galvanise our dedicated Board and provide strategic support to our outstanding Chief Executive and leadership team.
Alongside extensive senior leadership experience, you will be commercially astute, bring a strong understanding of modern board leadership, and have a proven track record of strategic thinking and innovation.
It is crucial that our new Chair is a confident and credible ambassador, able to forge strong relationships across the sector and represent the hospice externally when appropriate. System leadership experience and/or knowledge of the wider healthcare system would be an additional advantage.
You will demonstrate a deep and genuine commitment to diversity and inclusion, and in reaching underserved and overlooked communities.
Above all, you will be intrinsically values-driven, compassionate, and committed to the vision and mission of the Hospice.

The GSF is a registered charity and has been the UK’s leading training provider for generalist frontline staff in caring for people in the last years of life for over 25 years. GSF is a practical and evidence-based end of life care improvement programme.
Its aim is to enable a ‘gold standard’ of care for everyone, with any condition, in any setting, given by any care provider, at any time in a person’s last years of life.

Saint Francis Hospice, rated outstanding by the CQC, specialises in providing care for people in our community with palliative and end of life care needs. We provide care for any person, from any faith or cultural background, who have been diagnosed with a serious illness who are living in Havering, Barking and Dagenham, Redbridge, Brentwood or parts of West Essex. Saint Francis Hospice offers experienced, compassionate advice and support.
We recently welcomed our new Chief Executive and many exciting priorities are underway, including a renovation and major upgrade of our ward unit, a continued focus on service quality and innovation, a new people strategy and an ambition to achieve even greater financial sustainability.
About the role.
We are now seeking an inspiring and visionary Chair who will ensure the successful delivery of our current ambitions and embrace all future opportunities for growth and development.
Peter Crutchett, the previous long-standing Trustee and Chair of Saint Francis Hospice sadly died in February 2024. He was planning to retire in the autumn of 2025.
Who we are looking for.
Our new Chair must bring a successful senior leadership or board track record from a relevant health/social care, public sector, private sector or charity sector organisation of similar scale and complexity.
You will be an outstanding relationship builder, with experience in leading and galvanising high-performing multi-functional/multi-disciplinary teams including volunteers. You will be an exceptional influencer and negotiator, with a successful track record of relationship development and collaborative partnership working with a wide and varied range of stakeholders. In addition, you will bring experience in representing organisations on a local, regional, and national scale.
Above all else, it is critical that our new Chair embodies the values of Saint Francis Hospice and is intrinsically aligned to our cause.
