Unfold is an established local charity (previously known as Westminster Befriend a Family), supporting young people and families to reach their potential, identifying and achieving their goals through mentoring. We support families and young people in Westminster and its neighbouring boroughs with mentoring programmes and peer support groups for women with children.
Unfold Trustees
Trustees play a key role in ensuring that Unfold achieves its core purpose and overseeing the overall management and administration of the charity. They also help to ensure that Unfold has a clear strategic vision and that we are working in line with our charitable aims. Trustees support and challenge Unfold’s CEO to enable Unfold to thrive.
We are looking for two Trustees to support our vision and take on the following responsibilities:
Responsibilities

Support and advise on Unfold’s vision, goals and activities

Approve operational strategies and policies and monitor and evaluate their implementation

Oversee the charity’s budgets and financial plans and monitor and evaluate progress

Ensure that risks are being identified, monitored and managed effectively

Ensure the effective administration of the charity

Provide support and challenge to Unfold’s CEO

Keep up to date with changes within the environment that Unfold operates

Engage with and be accountable to our service-user accountability structures, our Youth Advisory Council and our Women’s Advisory Council, who support us in setting strategic direction and to whom we are accountable.

Contribute to reviews of the charity’s governance

Attend board meetings and be adequately prepared to contribute to the discussion. At least 50% of those meetings will be in person in our fully accessible London office.

Support the promotion of Unfold's aims and reputation

LGBTQ+ Trans and Non-Binary Youth Mentors Role Description
You will be an integral part in supporting trans and non-binary young LGBTQ+ with issues related to their lived experience. elop is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people and expects all volunteers to share this commitment.
In order to do this you will need to undertake an enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service check and provide two references.
Our Mentoring Volunteers provide support and are role models to the young people we work with, and must be responsible, reliable and committed to the mentoring relationship. You will need to be good at communicating, enthusiastic and have a desire to help LGBTQ+ young people.
Previous experience of working with young people would be beneficial but is not essential. No formal qualifications are required. You will need to commit to meeting with three young people on a one-to-one basis each for an hour a week for 6 months. The Communications Volunteer will write and coordinate our external communications. This includes CAW’s regular newsletter, stories and general information on our website, and campaign and research pieces. You will work alongside both our Research and Campaigns volunteers and key staff members.

Skills, experience and time commitment:
• Enthusiasm and commitment to work alongside a motivated team providing advice and information for residents across Westminster
• Excellent writing, communication and “people” skills
• Experience in writing informative, persuasive or neutral content depending on the purpose of and audience for the communication
• Self-motivation and the ability to work independently
• IT skills necessary to support research across numerous existing Citizens Advice databases and platforms
• Knowledge and experience of marketing and communications which is transferrable to Citizens Advice
• Experience with digital media, layout/design, creating presentations and/or fundraising would be advantageous but are not essential for this role
Ability to commit 1 or 2 days a week to the role on a regular basis; location is flexible but it is helpful to be able to come to CAW at least a couple of times each month and to participate in Advice Forums and other regular activities as these provide useful insights into our work and our clients’ experiences

The impact a volunteer telephone befriender can have on a lonely individual is amazing and for many of our service users our volunteer telephone befrienders are the only people in their lives who can offer quality time for a nice chat. With just one hour of your time per week you can help provide companionship and support for someone suffering from chronic loneliness.

We offer ongoing supervision and regular catch ups with team members. The volunteer has the opportunity to meet with fellow volunteers for monthly or bimonthly zoom events.

The relief and rehabilitation of people with disabilities,in particular by encouraging them to lead fuller and more active lives, and, wherever possible, assisting them to cope with their disability through active participation in he visual arts.
What will you be doing?
Conquest Art (CA) is a long-established charity which runs groups offering art in a conducive atmosphere for people with various health problems and challenges. At the regular sessions they can make friends and enjoy the benefits of creativity through art.
The charity has several groups in the Surrey area as well as throughout the UK. Exhibitions and promotional events take place at various times during the year.
CA seeks an addition to its small team of hands-on Trustees to assist with the management of the charity and, also, with publicity and promotional activities. Apart from good communication skills and an interest in charity governance, no special qualifications are needed.
Trustee meetings are currently held bi-monthly on Zoom.
What are we looking for?
Experience in: Communications, Finance.
