Pain Concern is a charity providing information and support to people with pain and those who care for them, whether family, friends or healthcare professionals. Purpose of Volunteer Role

Pain Concern could not exist without our volunteers. We are looking for someone with an interest in chronic pain to help raise funds for Pain Concern by coordinating fundraising events. 

What would you be doing:

• Maintain communications those fundraising in aid of Pain Concern and provide support

• With support from the Fundraising Team, Fundraising Steering Group and your fellow volunteers, help to plan and deliver events and activities to raise funds and awareness

• Send out fundraising packs

• Liaise with Media Team for publicising fundraisers and events

• Maintain a list of fundraising opportunities such as walks and marathons

• Help develop and maintain the fundraising section of Pain Concern’s website

• Research opportunities to promote community fundraising

• Develop links with local businesses

• Research and organise local fundraising events

• Recruit community fundraisers to support events in their area

• Attend events organised by our fundraisers as the ‘face’ of Pain Concern

• Maintain a database of contact and other ad hoc admin support for the team as required

Purpose of Volunteer Role

This role supports our aim in delivering pain education in our communities and providing access to high quality resources to those who may not have digital access. As an ambassador you will provide tailored information on pain management services available in the local health board area and Signpost to any other support services in the community. Promote the concept of supported self-management as a recommended, effective intervention for chronic pain. Help make a difference to people living with pain by providing a powerful platform to hear the views and experiences for the all too often, voiceless patients. Due to the nature of the role, successful applicants will be required to undertake a PVG check.

What would you be doing 

• Have personal experience of chronic pain (e.g., a diagnosis or experience of supporting a family member or friend).

• Representing Pain Concern in a professional manner

• Build a network with local GP surgeries, NHS health board.

• Attend Pain Management groups (virtually or in person), to highlight long term support options.

• Making conversation with members of the public as appropriate, and answering questions about the charity’s work.

• Signpost to helpline, Pain Concern information leaflets, Airing Pain etc

• Carry out research into community groups, local events and businesses in your area, so that you can contact them to attend fayres, exhibitions etc

• Attend cheque presentations and local events officially thanking donors and hosts for their support

• Adhere to Pain Concern’s policies and procedures at all times, including Safeguarding; Equality, Diversity and Inclusion; Health & Safety; Data Protection; Confidentiality;

• Attend training and volunteer meetings

• Keep your Volunteer Manager up to date on your activities, including the contacts you’ve made and talks that you’ve arranged.

The Association for Palliative Medicine of Great Britain and Ireland (APM) is one of the world's largest representative bodies of medical/healthcare professionals practicing or interested in palliative care, with a growing membership of over 1,400. Most members are doctors, and supporting them is the core focus of the APM. APM members support patients with life threatening illnesses to live and die as well as possible. It is the APM's mission to promote, facilitate, advance and develop excellence for the benefit of every individual patient and those important to them. As part of a wider governance review, the APM is making some exciting changes to it's organisational structures. The current Board will become the APM Council with a focus on professional matters and the creation of a new Board of Trustees will oversee the administration of the APM as a professional membership body and hold elected Officers to account.

About the APM:

The APM is a registered charity, and so it has a Board of Trustees acting as its governing body. The Board of Trustees is responsible for agreeing the APM business plan and monitoring the progress of APM affairs. Trustees also act as the custodians of the APM, ensuring effective management and administration and are registered as APM Directors with Companies House.

About the Lay Chair Role:

As the inaugural Lay Chair of the Board of Trustees, you will have the opportunity to work very closely the APM Officers and Council to help shape the role. You will note that a medical background is not a pre-requisite of the role. In leading the Board of Trustees you will have ultimate oversight of the affairs of the charity, and responsibility for ensuring it is solvent, well-run, and delivering on its charitable objective.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Ensure that the Board fulfils its duties as guardians of the APM.
• Ensure the APM governance structure effectively supports its activity, size and complexity.
• Chair Board meetings, fostering a culture of inclusiveness, transparency and collaboration.

The APM Board of Trustees will normally hold four meetings per year (likely to be a mixture of in-person and hybrid meetings). On average, it is estimated that the time commitment will equate to one day per month, spread irregularly over a 12-month period. Trustees will serve a three-year term. The Gold Standards Framework (GSF) Centre recently celebrated 25 years of work improving end of life care given by generalist frontline teams. GSF is the leading provider of training in end of life care for generalist front line staff across health and social care. We have trained and accredited thousands of teams, influenced national policy and practice and GSF has improved the care for many millions of people and their families.

Much has been achieved but there is still more to do ... We have a bold and exciting vision to ensure that everyone experiences Gold Standard end of life care. We want to see a big increase in the number of people that are trained, and we want to influence policy to make Gold Standard end of life care a requirement. We have recently become a CIO charity and as we enter a new chapter of our story, we are seeking new trustees to help us to achieve our vision and contribute to our strategic purpose.

For over seventy years the Osteopathic Foundation (initially the Osteopathic Education Foundation) has been supporting osteopathic education, research, and development. We fund research and education activities through our grant-giving programmes. Since 2000, we have distributed over £1 million of support to advance osteopathic practice for public benefit.

We are seeking new Board members to sit on the Board of the Osteopathic Foundation. The Board meets quarterly online/in person to approve grants, monitor investment performance and report on activities. Please see the attached role specification for full details of the responsibilities.

Job Description

Our charity shops rely on generous donations made by the public to raise crucial funds for Marie Curie. From clothes, homeware and books, to CDs and DVDs, we sell a wide variety of products.

We are looking for volunteers to help us sort through all these donations, pick out the best items and prepare and sell them to our customers. Without the help of our dedicated volunteers we could not provide our customers with high quality items at affordable prices.  This allows us to raise funds so our nurses can continue to provide care to terminally ill people and support for their families.

Your role will include some of, but is not restricted to, the following tasks:

• Sort through donations, being aware of the possibility of a hidden gem and better quality brands
• Prepare items for sale by checking, hanging, steaming, sizing and pricing them
• Work on the shop floor and provide excellent customer service to our shoppers
• Operate the till 
• Help out with basic housekeeping to keep the shop clean and tidy

JOB DESCRIPTION

Marie Curie Helper is a professional service provided by trained volunteers who offer one-to-one companionship and support to people with a terminal illness and their families. The service would not be able to reach those most in need if it was not for the commitment and hard work of the volunteers delivering the service.

Helper volunteers provide companionship and emotional support, practical support, short breaks for carers and help with signposting for information and support.

Your role will include some of, but is not restricted to, the following tasks:

• Carry out weekly visits with the person(s) you’re supporting, as agreed with the Volunteer Co-ordinator. This could be in a variety of settings, eg family home, a care home or in the community.
• Provide one-to-one companionship and support. 

For example: offering a listening ear and spending time engaging in every-day conversation, activities or hobbies with the person you are supporting. Driving clients to pre-arranged health or social care (e.g. to medical appointments) or taking short trips out. Helping with small, daily tasks, e.g. making tea or accessing the internet. Allowing carers to have a short break. You may be supporting your client’s family or carers before or during bereavement.  This may involve offering emotional support, signposting to relevant local support services or finding out information as requested 

(This is only an outline as support will vary according to individual needs. Helper volunteers do not provide nursing or personal care, or offer counselling or advice)

• Keep your manager informed of any changes to the situation, or any significant happenings in connection to the person you’re supporting and/or their family, either in person or by phone 
• Submit regular visit reports to your manager and update relevant computer systems as required 
• Be reliable and committed to regularly spending time with someone and offering support
• Attend individual sessions with your Volunteer Co-ordinator, training and group events as required 
• Represent the Marie Curie Helper service positively to those using the service

Gwasanaeth proffesiynol yw Cynorthwywyr Marie Curie a ddarperir gan wirfoddolwyr hyfforddedig sy’n cynnig cwmnïaeth a chymorth un-i-un i bobl sydd â salwch terfynol a’u teuluoedd. Ni fyddai’r gwasanaeth yn medru cyrraedd y rhai sydd ei angen fwyaf heb ymroddiad a gwaith caled y gwirfoddolwyr sy’n darparu’r gwasanaeth.

Mae Cynorthwywyr Gwirfoddol yn darparu cwmnïaeth a chymorth emosiynol, cymorth ymarferol, seibiannau byr i ofalwyr a help gyda chyfeirio at wybodaeth a chymorth. 

Beth rydym angen i chi ei wneud

Bydd eich rôl yn cynnwys, ond heb fod yn gyfyngedig i, rhai o’r tasgau canlynol:

• Cynnal ymweliadau wythnosol gyda’r person/pobl rydych chi’n eu cefnogi, fel y cytunwyd gyda’r Cydlynydd Gwirfoddolwyr. Gallai hyn fod mewn amrywiaeth o leoliadau, e.e. cartref teuluol, cartref gofal, neu yn y gymuned.
• Darparu cwmnïaeth a chymorth un-i-un. Er enghraifft:

• Cynnig clust i wrando a threulio amser yn sgwrsio neu wneud gweithgareddau neu hobïau bob dydd gyda'r person yr ydych yn ei gefnogi.
• Gyrru cleientiaid i ofal iechyd neu gymdeithasol a drefnwyd ymlaen llaw (e.e. i apwyntiadau meddygol) neu fynd ar deithiau byr.
• Helpu gyda thasgau bach bob dydd, e.e. gwneud te neu gyrchu’r
• rhyngrwyd.
• Caniatáu i ofalwyr gael seibiant byr.
• Efallai y byddwch yn cefnogi teulu’ch cleient cyn neu yn ystod profedigaeth.  Gallai hyn gynnwys cynnig cymorth emosiynol, cyfeirio at wasanaethau cymorth lleol neu ddod o hyd i wybodaeth yn ôl yr angen

• Rhoi gwybod i’ch rheolwr am unrhyw newidiadau i’r sefyllfa, neu unrhyw ddigwyddiadau arwyddocaol mewn cysylltiad â’r person rydych chi’n ei gefnogi a/neu ei deulu, naill ai wyneb yn wyneb neu dros y ffôn
• Cyflwyno adroddiadau ymweliad i’ch rheolwr yn rheolaidd a diweddaru systemau cyfrifiadur perthnasol yn ôl yr angen
• Bod yn ddibynadwy ac yn ymroddgar i dreulio amser â rhywun a chynnig cymorth yn rheolaidd
• Mynychu sesiynau unigol gyda’ch Cydlynydd Gwirfoddoli, hyfforddiant a sesiynau grŵp yn ôl yr angen
• Cynrychioli’r Gwasanaeth Cynorthwywyr Marie Curie yn bositif i’r rhai sy’n defnyddio’r gwasanaeth
