Voluntary
Job description

Henna Asian Women’s Group is established as a company limited by guarantee and is registered as a charity.  Henna Asian Women’s Group is a “grassroots” community based organisation that has been working with women and their families in London.  Henna Asian Women’s Group is a members’ based organisation in London formed 37 years ago by women originating from Asia to alleviate isolation but also to enjoy cultural and social occasions.

Our Vision is that South Asian women in London are happy and fulfilled.

Henna Asian Women’s Group is committed:

“…to increase social inclusion and confidence by creating awareness, building skills and providing support”.

Although the trustees are all equal the Chair is ‘first among equals’ and the burden of leadership rests largely on the Chair’s shoulders. The role of the Chair extends well beyond drawing up the agenda and chairing the meetings of the board of trustees.

The Chair has to take a leadership role in ensuring that the board of trustees fulfils its responsibilities for the governance of the charity and, when staff are employed, must work closely with the Manager to support her achieving the aims of the charity and acting as the channel of communication between the trustees and staff. Other tasks may include authorising action to be taken between meetings of the full board.
