Stevenage, Hertfordshire
Voluntary, 10 hours per month
Job description

Home-Start is a national charity that works at local level. Our core programme is the provision of long-term mentoring for parents at risk of experiencing a serious crisis.

We work with local, statutory partners who refer vulnerable parents to us. These people are often isolated; they can be suspicious of more formal service providers. Home-Start connects where other providers fail by offering home visits carried out by trained volunteers.

Currently, we have 124 volunteers giving one-to-one support to 127 families and a waiting list of 64 families. We generate 100% of our funding ourselves. We apply for grants, bid for tenders, put on fund-raising events, provide paid for training to organisations, collect money at sponsored events and seek support from Hertfordshire-based businesses and charitable organisations. We have a team of 13 full and part-time staff, equating to 5½ full time employees.

In addition to our staff, we have a board of Trustees who bring specialist skills and experience to support the scheme. Trustees are expected to offer around 10 hours per month and to attend most of the six Board meetings each year. Currently we would welcome Trustees with HR experience, and we particularly need Trustees with a health and social care background
