Hammersmith United Charities is a thriving organisation that has been supporting local people for over 400 years. Hammersmith is a vibrant and diverse community, rich in cultural assets, global businesses and esteemed academic institutions. However, the area is also characterised by extreme levels of inequality, with London’s busiest foodbank located side-by-side with luxury developments. Hammersmith United Charities supports the community and combats inequality through three key areas of activity.
They provide high-quality sheltered housing to nearly 100 older people who have been priced out of local housing options. Their beautiful and affordable Almshouses have excellent facilities, award-winning gardens and a welcoming community. The Charity also provides grants to community-led organisations striving to create a more equal society. Their grants programme awards £400,000 per year to Charities that make Hammersmith a better place. Furthermore, Hammersmith United Charities are heavily involved in community action. They strengthen the community by giving people a voice and nurturing local initiatives. The Charity uses its network to build partnerships between businesses, community organisations and local governments that support people in need and help people feel connected.
They are looking to broaden the Board’s diversity of thought with creative and strategic thinkers. The successful candidates will have exceptional communication skills, alongside the ability to exercise objective and independent judgement.
Ideally, the Trustees will possess senior leadership experience in: Social housing or a background in the financial sector.
However, the most important aspect is that candidates will bring energy, enthusiasm and commitment to the role. A strong connection to Hammersmith is desirable, but not necessary.

ABOUT THE ROLE
The role of the Volunteer Barber is an important one to the charity as part of our confidence-building and resettlement efforts.
The role will suit someone who is a trainee or qualified barber or hairdresser, who can commit to 6 hours per month at our Health and Wellbeing days across South West London.
The volunteer will be mindful of how much a new appearance can increase the self-esteem of someone who is experiencing homelessness or is being resettled by SPEAR. They will enjoy developing positive relationships with new people and will be willing to work outside of their own comfort zone providing haircuts at no charge to SPEAR clients.
LOCATION/S: Our Health and Wellbeing days are held across Richmond, Kingston, Wandsworth, Merton and Sutton Boroughs. We hold approximately one Health and Well-being day per month in one of the above locations.
The volunteer must have an enhanced DBS background check (SPEAR will apply for this on your behalf.)

What will you be doing?
We are looking for people to join our board of trustees to help take Cheltenham Almshouses and Aid forward. We would particularly welcome those with experience of building maintenance and development of new properties, health and safety, finance and investment, risk control, social care and marketing.
Many of the properties we own are of older stock and there is a constant challenge to keep the buildings well maintained and up to standard, in line with health and safety requirements whilst providing comfortable and affordable living.
We have recently built four new wonderful apartments within a conservation area and may possibly in the future look at extending our current stock of properties with more new builds.
We have a healthy balance sheet and would look to new trustees to guide the charity with new investment opportunities.
At present we have little presence on social media and would welcome a trustee on board who could help us in this field and ultimately give us the presence we so need. By maintaining a wait list this reduces the risk of void apartments and subsequent decrease in income.
We provide housing to many people who are working but cannot afford the market rents, for those retired who want to live in well maintained, peaceful communities. Some of our beneficiaries may need help with more personal matters such as benefit applications, liaising with social services, the clerk will deal with these aspects directly but additional knowledge of areas such as benefits and pensions would be immensely valuable to our beneficiaries, some of whom may not have any family members nearby to support them.

The National Housing Federation (NHF) is the voice of England’s housing associations.
Our housing association members provide homes for around six million people and are driven by a social purpose: providing good quality housing that people can afford.
We support our members to deliver that social purpose, with ambitious work that leads to positive change, and we are looking for board members who are committed to helping us achieve this.
We have three vacant board member posts and are looking to appoint to these positions with a start date in September 2024.

Successful candidates:
You will be from within the social housing sector, leading a housing association as a CEO or board member.

Exeter Northcott is seeing is seeking a dedicated and skilled individual to join our team as a Volunteer Caretaker/Handyperson at our Exeter city centre Barnfield Theatre. This role involves light gardening, maintenance, and handy work to support the continued smooth operation and upkeep of our venue.
The ideal candidate will have a passion for the arts, a knack for fixing things, and a willingness to contribute their time and skills to support the vibrant cultural hub that is the Barnfield Theatre.
Key Responsibilities include:
Maintenance: Performing routine maintenance tasks to preserve the functionality and appearance of the theatre's facilities. This may include minor repairs, painting, and other upkeep activities.
Handy Work: Addressing minor handyperson tasks and repairs around the theatre premises. This could involve fixing doors, windows, or any small carpentry work as needed.
Gardening: Undertaking light gardening tasks to maintain the exterior aesthetics of the theatre, including weeding, pruning, and general upkeep of the outdoor spaces.
Collaboration: Working closely with the Barnfield Theatre team to identify and address maintenance needs. Communicate effectively to report any issues that may require professional attention.
Schedule:
Is flexible, we envisage at minimum a couple of days a month, however this could be increased.
Requirements:
Previous practical experience in maintenance, or handy work.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Excellent communication skills.
A passion for the arts and a commitment to supporting community cultural spaces.
Physical fitness to carry out light manual tasks.

Role Content
Being a trustee of The Almshouse Association is to help lead the national strategy for the almshouse movement. The trustee board are seeking individuals who have an interest in improving the lives of others through helping run the membership organisation for 1600 small charities.
The Trustee board today is made up of dedicated and committed professionals who meet regularly either as full or sub-committee members and have a very strong long-term strategic goal. The role of the board is to vision and lead strategy and support the Chief Executive of an excellent and proactive executive team, in delivering that strategy.
