Job description

The Kids Network is a community of children and young professionals connecting through fun, friendship and hardship for positive social change.   We believe every child deserves the right to a happy childhood and a positive future. Our mentors help make that happen.

The Kids Network values fun, diversity, and commitment – this is the culture we want embedded throughout the organisation. If you are passionate about connecting for change and share our vision, we want to hear from you.

We are looking for a new Trustee to support the organisation with income generation, events, expanding our networks, and partnership development.

Our trustees play a vital role in making sure that The Kids Network achieves its core purpose. They ensure that the Charity has a clear strategy and that our work and goals are in line with our vision. Just as importantly, they support and govern the executive team to enable The Kids Network to grow and thrive, and through this, support children to live the lives that they deserve.

Specific Responsibilities

· Lead trustee engagement on income generation working closely with the CEO and Head of Income Generation

· Support the organisational fundraising strategy to raise £920k income for 2022 and beyond

· Facilitate sponsored and other fundraising efforts on behalf of TKN

· Regularly update your network with news about the charity, including current projects, achievements, and awards

· Identify and broker new partnership and relationship opportunities for TKN

· Attend relevant networking events and conferences

· Sit on our Funding & Finance sub-committee

Board members have a collective responsibility. This means that trustees always act as a group and not as individuals.

Core Trustee Responsibilities

· Support and provide advice on TKN’s purpose, vision, goals and activities.

· Approve operational strategies and policies and monitor and evaluate their implementation.

· Oversee TKN’s financial plans and budgets and monitor and evaluate progress.

· Ensure the effective and efficient administration of the organisation.

· Ensure that key risks are being identified, monitored, and controlled effectively.

· Review and approve TKN’s financial statements.

· Provide support and challenge to TKN’s CEO in the exercise of their delegated authority and affairs.

· Keep abreast of changes in TKN’s operating environment.

· Contribute to regular reviews of TKN’s own governance. Attend Board meetings, adequately prepared to contribute to discussions.

· Use independent judgment, acting legally and in good faith to promote and protect TKN’s interests, to the exclusion of their own personal and/or any third-party interests.

· Contribute to the broader promotion of TKN’s objects, aims and reputation by applying your skills, expertise, knowledge, and contacts.

Terms of appointment

· This is a voluntary position, but reasonable expenses are reimbursed.

· Trustees should serve a minimum of one term, lasting 2 years

Time commitment

· Attending 5 Board meetings annually. Currently meetings are held remotely

· Attending 1 offsite strategy day

· Ad hoc and occasional support through working groups and / or support to the executive team

As a small charity, there will be times when the trustees will need to be actively involved beyond Board meetings. This may involve preparing board papers, leading discussions, providing advice and guidance on new initiatives, presenting externally, or other issues in which the trustee has special expertise.

The Kids Network is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful applicant will be required to apply for an enhanced DBS check.
