Purpose of role

During Covid-19 we are running a social media recruitment campaign, primarily to recruit Support Workers for our Services across the UK.  The campaign brings new people into Social Care, so people who may have lost their jobs and therefore may be interested in considering this work, if opportunities in their industry are limited.

Key activities

  • Make contact by phone and email with people who have submitted an ‘expression of interest’ form.
  • Listen to them, be genuinely interested in, and sensitive to, their situation – as they may be desperate to find work – build up a rapport with them.
  • As the first person they will engage with from LC, you will play a crucial role in enthusing and inspiring them about LC and about the opportunity of working for LC.

Time commitment required

Any time you have spare, and when you find a new expression of interest in the Together Inbox to pick up and contact.

Requirements of role (checks and training)

GDPR, as will be receiving contact details of people applying for a role with us.


Any other checks and training required to enable them to have an LC email address with access to the Together Campaign’s email inbox (which would be provided by IT, at my request).


Be required to spend time looking at our job site to gain information that will help them prepare what they can say to encourage people about the positive aspects of working in social care and of working for us.


Be trained by Tina Jennings in conducting a screening interview for candidates.  So that once an appropriate opportunity in the right location has been identified for a candidate they can conduct a screening interview and submit that interview report to the relevant Service.

Key skills/qualities a volunteer needs for this role

  • Excellent and engaging telephone manner
  • Good writing skills for sending emails
  • Empathy

Basic computer skills, particularly email and for keeping a log of all the contacts they make.


At this stage I wouldn’t set them up for access to the Applicant Tracking System ATS (but we have given our redeployed colleagues that access in order to track the candidates through the recruitment process) so might consider that further down the line.
