Job Description

About the Museum

London Canal Museum is an independent museum located in Kings Cross and is the only museum specialising in London’s Canals. The collection also covers the history if the London ice trade and houses 2 ice wells. It is volunteer-led and gives opportunities for volunteering in a range of key roles.

About this opportunity

The museum provides guided school visits, with a range of workshops aimed mainly at 5-11 year olds (Years 1-6). The Education Volunteers play a key part in this, led by the Education Officer. They have the opportunity to create resources, to support or lead workshops and to work with families and informal groups at our ‘Watery Wednesday’ school holiday activities. This is by no means a regular opportunity. Schools and groups visit with notice but not consistently and there may be no sessions for several weeks and then 3 days in a row!

What we are looking for

We need people who:

  • Are able to be flexible in terms of availability and input
  • Can keep calm when working with children and their adults
  • Have some experience with work in heritage or teaching/children’s and youth work, although specific training will be given.
