HR MANAGER - VOLUNTEER ROLE
We are looking for a volunteer to join us at Unlock YOUR Potential in the volunteer role of HR MANAGER (Remote), where you will lead on Unlock YOUR Potential's HR aspects and function, ensuring an amazing organisational culture and team spirit.

Role Overview:
As the Volunteer, HR Manager, you will play a crucial role in setting up and managing our human resources, with a focus on recruitment and retention of volunteers. This is a remote position, with meetings done via telephone or online via Zoom or other platforms.
Key Responsibilities:
- Setting Up the HR Department: Establish HR systems and processes tailored to a startup charity.
- Ensure compliance with legal requirements.
- Onboarding and Offboarding: Welcome new team members and manage their transition. Handle offboarding processes professionally.
- Develop and implement HR policies and procedures and address team members’ queries related to HR policies.
- Organise interviews and recruitment processes and support the recruitment process by creating job/role descriptions and preparing interview questions.
- Implement a learning and development policy and foster talent growth and succession planning.
- Drive HR strategy in alignment with our overall mission.
- Contribute to organisational success through effective HR practices.
- Other duties required of a HR Manager.
Qualifications and Experience:

CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER - VOLUNTEER ROLE

TRUSTEE - VOLUNTEER ROLE
We are looking for volunteers to join us at Unlock YOUR Potential in the volunteer role of TRUSTEE (Remote), where you will attend regular quarterly Trustee meetings via Zoom and be able to commit to 3 hours per month as part of the TRUSTEE duties.

About the candidate
We are actively seeking new trustees who share our values and are passionate about supporting parents, carers and families. While considering all candidates, we are particularly interested to hear from individuals skills or experience in:
• Proven experience in leading and implementing digital transformation initiatives,
• Knowledge and experience in family law or policy development,
• Understanding and experience in child safeguarding, social work and parent support,
• Track record in engaging and understanding in local authority commissioning processes,
• Knowledge of governance structures and practices within charitable organisations,
• Financial acumen including budget oversight and financial strategy development,
• Expertise in fundraising, cultivating donor relationships and diversifying funding streams,
• Background in academic or research settings contributing to evidence-based decision making.
About the role
As a Trustee you will:
• Understand the mission, priorities, and strategic objectives of Family Lives.
• Play an active role in developing and guiding strategy.
• Provide supportive leadership to the Chief Executive.
• Monitor the performance of the Chief Executive and the organization.
• Evaluate current and future risks, taking action to minimize them.
• Contribute to debates and discussions.
• Attend at least four Board meetings a year and the Board Away Day.
• Bring your area of interest/expertise/awareness relevant to the organization’s work.

We Are Family is an extraordinary peer support community for adopters and prospective adopters. We’re there for parents throughout their adoption journey. Online and in person, our parents’ groups, events, resources, podcasts and talks offer mutual support, information and inspiration to adopters and those considering adoption. We currently operate across Greater London and the Home Counties, with ambitions to scale nationally over the coming years.
The Role
We Are Family is seeking to appoint a committed and motivated Company Secretary who will work closely with the Board of Trustees and play an active part in the governance of the organisation.
This is a voluntary opportunity with associated Trustee expenses - such as travel / childcare - covered by We Are Family. The Company Secretary can be based anywhere in the UK.

In addition to being involved in Board meetings, the Secretary should expect to spend 8-10 hours each month on work related to the governance of the charity.

Skills and Experience
In this role you will:

Work directly with the Chair and Deputy Chair to organise and plan for regular Board meetings, producing agendas and a supporting pack of Board papers

Ensure minutes are taken at the Trustee Board meetings and circulated in a timely manner

Take an active role in the governance of the Charity, ensuring that the company complies with its governing document, Charity Law, Charity Commission, and other relevant legislation

Arrange for filings to be submitted to the Charity Commission in accordance with statutory deadlines

Liaise with Committee Chairs to collect and distribute Committee meeting notes to the Board of Trustees

Maintain and update statutory records including annual returns, report, and accounts, and changes to the trustee membership.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Oversee presentation of budgets, internal management accounts and annual financial statements to the board of trustees.

Lead on the board’s duty to ensure that proper accounting records are kept, financial resources are properly controlled, invested and economically spent, in line with good governance, legal and regulatory requirements.

Lead the development and implementation of financial reserves, cost management and investment policies.

Monitor and advise on the financial viability of the charity.

Oversee the implementation of and monitoring specific financial controls and adherence to systems.

Oversee the charity’s financial risk management process.

Review and approve payments (including payroll).

Be the main point of contact for We Are Family’s bank.

Act as a counter signatory on important applications to funders.

Liaise with the appropriate member of staff responsible for the financial activities of the organisation.

Liaise with the external auditors or independent examiner on specific issues such as the auditor’s or examiner’s management letter and the related board representations.
